<p> </p><p><span data-ke-size="size20">12. 수월도량 염화실을 열다</span></p><p> </p><p><span data-ke-size="size20">     2004년 12월 12일 무비스님은 인터넷 포탈 사이트 다음에 카페를 열었다.</span></p><p><span data-ke-size="size20">컴퓨터 사용법은 [화엄경] 책을 쓰면서 배웠다.</span></p><p><span data-ke-size="size20">범어사 종무소에도 컴퓨터가 없던 시절에 무비스님이 대학원장으로 있던 은해사 승가대학원에서는 대학원생 스님들이 컴퓨터로 모든 교재를 만들어서 사용하도록 했었다.</span></p><p><span data-ke-size="size20">무비스님은 새로운 문물과 과학 기술에 관심이 많았다.</span></p><p><span data-ke-size="size20">”승(僧)자가 무슨 글자입니까? 사람 인(人)변에 일찍 증(曾)자, 보통 세상 사람보다 한 걸음 빨리 가는 사람입니다.“</span></p><p><span data-ke-size="size20">방편이 아닌 경전의 말씀이라면 순전하게 믿는 사람이 무비스님이었다. 또 한편, 병 때문에 운신의 폭이 좁아졌으니 공부한 것을 회향할 수 있는 새로운 방법을 찾아야 했다.</span></p><p><span data-ke-size="size20">인터넷에 카페를 열면서 모든 이가 쉽게 오갈 수 있도록 회원과 비회원의 차별 없이 모든 항목을 개방했다. 카페 이름은 살고 있던 당우 이름 그대로 <염화실>이라고 지었다.</span></p><p> </p><p> </p><p><span style="color: #1b711d;" data-ke-size="size20">12. Opening 'Yeomhwasil': A Temple on the Web</span></p><p> </p><p><span style="color: #1b711d;" data-ke-size="size20">     On December 12, 2004, Mubi Seunim opened an online community on the web portal ‘Daum’.</span><br><span style="color: #1b711d; background-color: #ffffff;" data-ke-size="size20">He learned how to use a computer while writing his book on the [Avatamsaka Sutra]. </span></p><p><span style="color: #1b711d;" data-ke-size="size20">Even when the administrative office at Beomeosa Temple had no computers, Mubi Seunim—then the Dean of Eunhaesa Temple Sangha Graduate School—required his student monks to produce all their textbooks using computers.</span></p><p><span style="color: #1b711d;" data-ke-size="size20">Mubi Seunim was always very interested in new technology and modern culture.</span></p><p><span style="color: #1b711d;" data-ke-size="size20">He often asked, "What does the character for 'Monk' (僧) mean? It combines 'person' (人) and 'already' (曾). It means someone who goes one step ahead of ordinary people.</span></p><p><span style="color: #1b711d;" data-ke-size="size20">He was a man who purely believed in the words of the scriptures, as long as they were not just 'expedient means' (teaching tools). Also, since his illness made it hard to move around, he had to find a new way to share his teachings with the world.</span></p><p><span style="color: #1b711d;" data-ke-size="size20">When he opened the online community, he made it open to everyone—members and non-members alike—so people could visit easily. He named it 'Yeomhwasil', just like the name of his actual living quarters at the temple.</span></p><p> </p>
