Simply put, Markus Stenz's Mahler Sixth is phenomenal and OUTSTANDING
in every way. From the breathtaking yet utterly natural and wonderfully
nuanced reading, formidable ensemble, to the gorgeous sound by Oehms
label, I have absolutely no quibbling whatsoever about this production.
Alas, Stenz opts for the Andante-Scherzo order and there are no couplings on the second disc making this a pricy set for regular

Stenz and his orchestra saved their best for the Finale. This is an
epic 30 min. long performance, searingly intense, powerful and yet in
keeping with the overall big picture, never losing the forest for the
trees. Again, you shouldn't expect a VPO or a BPO but the playing is as
good as it should be. The entire symphony is so well SHAPED and held together under Stenz. </span></span></span></span>The recording quality really shines with

@Dorian우리들처럼 말러를 오래 들어온 사람들에게는 Stenz의 그러한 의도가 전적으로 어필을 할수 있죠. 새롭고 신선한 미학을 추구했다는 면에서. 비극적인 것으로 정면승부를 걸지는 않지만, 곡 자체의 짜임새와 디테일이 잘 되어 있으면 비극적인 요소들이 부차적으로, 그리고 더 자연스럽게 생겨나는 것 아닌가요?

저도 아직 못 들어본 음반인데 3번과 더불어서 가장 궁금한 연주입니다. 해석적인 측면에선 운명의 비극적인 면이나 격렬하고 치열한 면을 어떤 시선으로 풀었는지 궁금하기도 하고요.
제가 보기엔 그런 면은 처음부터 싹 빼버리고 연주하던데요?^^;
곡 자체의 짜임새와 디테일, 오직 그것만으로 승부한 연주였습니다...
전 (대)성공이라고 보지만, 모든 사람이 그렇게 보지는 않을 겁니다.

격렬한 디테일(?)이 살아있다면 그것이 말러가 의도한 것의 한 면이라고 볼수 있을 겁니다. 차이코프스키의 비창이 슬픈 감정의 내면을 표현한 것이라면 말러의 6번은 내면의 비극 이전에 다가오는 삶의 무게의 치열함이 몰려오는 것이기에. 조만간 구입해 보겠습니다^.^

지나치게 기술적이어서 감동이 의구심으로 바뀐 음반 중 하나였어요.음악은 과학이다?가 딱 떠오르더군요.음악은 뇌의 영역이다?^^
굳이 타음반과 비교를 하자면...아바도/베를린필 정도? 그러나 아바도는 smooth things out하는 경향이 있고, 반면에 Stenz는 좀더 굵으면서도 섬세하게 때로는 날카롭게 음색을 이끌어 냅니다.
연주를 들으면서 '"라오콘"을 수정으로 조각했어도 그게 비극적으로 보였을까?' 하는 생각이 들더군요^^;
