THE CHAMPION BODYBUILDER.. AGE 60
Sunday Mirror, Dec 3, 2006 by LOUISA PILBEAM
THE taut rippling muscles could belong to a man half his age, but bodybuilder David Brice has honed his physique into champion shape - at 60.
The former BT engineer began hitting the gym when he was 16 and 44 years later he's just been crowned Over-60s British Natural Bodybuilder.
And the dad-of-two - who weighs 11stone 12lbs and boasts 16in biceps, a 42in chest and a trim 32in waist - says he has no plans to retire from the sport.
His wife of 39 years, Linda, 58, a secretary, even helps David perfect his toned look - by painting on two coats of shiny fake tan before every contest.
David says his daughters Susan, 36, and Liz, 31, are also chuffed with their super-fit father.
He said: "Linda's always supported me and the girls say they are proud of me because I am in such good shape.
"Occasionally they say, 'Dad don't you think you should be slowing down? But I tell them that's not going to happen. There are guys of 70 out there competing."
David, from East Grinstead, Sussex, began weightlifting when he was 16 and won a string of titles before he decided to quit competitions when he was 50.
It was his local gym manager Karen Mallender, a female bodybuilder, who suggested he take up the new sport.
And in 2003 he won the British Natural Bodybuilding Federation's over-50s category.
David said: "I started going to the gym in 1962. I got sick of my skinny build and then decided I wanted to look like Arnie Schwarzenegger.
"I went training at Crystal Palace and the coach was David Prowse, who became Darth Vader in Star Wars.
"I'd met Linda and she was very supportive, although I remember saying I'd retire when I was about 28."
To keep in such amazing shape David eats six healthy meals a day and says he lives on turkey and broccoli.
David adds: "When I'm in training I get up at 5am, get to the gym about 6.15 and do a couple of hours' training."
But the results are worth the effort - and David now even works as a personal trainer.
"I'm in the best shape ever," he says, "And my sex life has improved as well."
