제1장.上經(상경) 21訓(훈) 157事(사). 제1 강령 성(誠).....정성.....第1事(제1사) 제1체 敬神(경신).....지극하게 공경함.....第2事  제6용 肅靜(숙정)......氣(기)를 멈추어 마음(心,심)을 바로함......第8事  Chapter 6 : Suk - Jeong(肅靜,숙정)... Halting the Energy(Qi) to Right the Mind(Heart)... Artcle 8.   ● Suk(肅,숙) means to halt and establish one′s Energy(Qi).  ● Jeong(靜,정) means to set the Mind straight.  ● If you halt and establish your energy, worldly desires do not arise.  ● If you set your mind straight, the Heavenly Principle (Cheon -ri) naturally becomes bright.  ● It becomes like hanging a mirror under the sun,      it shines brightly upon everything shaded and dark.   ● By halting the energy, righting the mind, and revering God (Hananim),      one can truly behold the Spirit of Heaven.   ◆ Original Text (원문)◆     ■ 肅은 立氣也라 靜은 定心也라 (숙은 입기야라 정은 정심야라)         Suk is establish the Qi, Jeong is to steady the heart.     ■ 立氣則物慾이 不作하고 定心則天理自明하며(입기즉물욕이 불작하고 정심즉천리자명하며)         When Qi is established, material desires do not stir,        when the heart is steadied, the Heavenly principle clarifies itself.     ■ 如日下卦鏡하여 陰暗映煇하나니 (여일하괘경하여 음암영휘하나니)         Like a mirror hung beneath the sun,         it reflects light into the shadows and darkness.     ■ 肅靜敬之면 能覩在天之靈이라.(숙정경지면 능도재천지령이라.)       If one practices solemn stillness and reverence,       one can perceive the Spirit that residess in Heaven.   ※ Summary of key Terms. (주요 용어 요약)      ● Qi (氣,기)  : Vital life force or energy.     ● Cheon - ri (天理,천리) : The fundamental laws or principles of universe/ heaven.      ● Suk - Jeong(肅靜,숙정) : Usually translated as "silence" or "solemnity,"          but defined here as a specific meditative practice of controlling energy and          internal focus.     ▣ Intepretation(풀이) ▣         ■ Energy( Qi, 氣기) is characterized by constant movement and change.        ■ Inother words, Inevitable Change(Pil - byeon, 必變 필변) is its primary nature.        ■ This stands in contrast to Principle(Ri, 理 리),             whose nature is lmmutability (Bul - byeon, 不變 불변), however            the two are fundamentally parts of a single body.        ■ To "establish" (Ip, 立 립) the inevitably changing Qi means to halt abd fix            the original nature of the constantly shifting energy.         ■ In the Cheonbugyeong(Heavenly Code), Qi refers to the external            64 Hexagrams( Gwa, 卦 괘) of the  ll- jeok -sip - geo - do           (Diagram of One Accumulating into ten).        ■ Halting and establishing these 64 Hexagrams means removing           the beginning and the end of change.        ■ That is, it  is to make the value 45[ 64 ―(beginning numbre 9+ Endi].        ■ this content explains how the Upper and Lower Scriptures of this             canon are composed of the number 45.        ■ If one is bound by the Qi that changes moment by moment,           one naturally becomes a prisoner of worldly desires.        ■ However, if one turns toward the immutable Ri(Principle)           ♥ On a small scale, one′s body and mind become one.           ♥ On a large scale, one becomes one with the center of the Great Universe.        ■ The essence of thiss teaching is that through this unity,            one can behold God(Hananim) and the Divine Spirit.     ▣ Contextual Notes for  Understanding.         ■ Qi(氣,기) vs  Ri(理,리) : A core concept in Neo - Confucianism and Korean philosophy.                Ql is the material force/energy that forms all things,                 while Ri is the governing principle or natural law behind them.         ■ 64 Hexagrams : Reference to the/ Ching(Book of Changes),                representing all possible states of change in the universe.          ■ 45(magic Square Connection) : In East Asian numerology,               the number 45 is significant as it is the sum of the numbers 1 through               9 in the Lo Shu Square, often associated with perfect balance and cosmic order.
