12. 수월도량 염화실을 열다, Opening "Yeomhwasil": A Temple on the Web

     인터넷으로 라디오 방송을 하고 있던 한 회원이 염화실에서 한 걸음도 옮기지 않은 채로, 라디오처럼 실시간 인터넷 방송을 할 수 있다는 것을 알려 주었다.

무비스님은 당장에 장비들을 갖추고 여러 사람의 도움을 받아서 실시간 인터넷 법회를 준비했다.

2005년 7월 13일부터 매일 저녁 7시 30분에 <인터넷 법문>을 방송했다. 처음 법문한 경전은 『법화경』이었다.

매일 같은 시간에 모여 실시간 법문을 듣던 법우들이 기쁨과 감사함을 참지 못하고 두 달 후 다 같이 범어사 염화실로 찾아왔다.

구름이 차곡차곡 쌓이다가 큰 비를 내리는 것처럼 패러다임이 변화하는 날들이었다.

인터넷을 통해 경전의 이치를 쉽게 설명할 수 있게 되었다. 이사무애(理事無礙)나, ‘한 티끌 속에 시방세계가 다 들어 있다’는 등의 이치도 어렵지 않게 직관적으로 증명해 보일 수 있게 되었다.

무비스님은 누구보다 먼저 온라인 법회를 열었다. 위중한 병고를 앓았기 때문이고 그 일에 압도되지 않고 극복할 수 있는 길을 적극적으로 모색했기 때문이다.

‘성공의 삼박자는 인연에 순응하며 인연을 파악하고 인연을 창조하는 것이다' 성엄법사의 이 말씀이 좋아서 무비스님은 『108자재어』를 17만 권이나 법공양하였다. 인연은 창조하는 것이다.

     One of the members who runs an online radio show told him that he could do live broadcasts just like a radio station, without moving a single step from Yeomhwashil.

Mubi Seunim immediately set up the equipment and, with the help of many people, prepared for live online Dharma services.

Starting July 13, 2005, he broadcasted his "Internet Dharma Talks" every evening at 7:30 PM.

The first scripture he taught was the Lotus Sutra.

Two months later, the fellow practitioners who had gathered at the same time every day to listen to the live broadcasts were so filled with joy and gratitude that they all came to visit Yeomhwasil at Beomeosa Temple together.

Those were days of a paradigm shift, just like clouds gathering layer by layer before a heavy rain falls.

The internet made it possible to explain the truths of the scriptures in a simple and easy way.

He could now easily and intuitively demonstrate profound principles, such as the perfect harmony between truth and reality, or the idea that 'the entire universe is contained within a single grain of dust.'

Mubi Seunim was the first to start online Dharma services.

This was because he was suffering from a serious illness, and he actively sought a way to overcome it instead of letting it overwhelm him.

Mubi Seunim loved these words by Master Sheng-yen: 'Success comes in three steps: adapting to conditions, understanding conditions, and creating conditions.' This inspired him to distribute 170,000 copies of the book “108 Adages of Wisdom” as a Dharma offering.
