Bible Reading - Proverbs 18:17~24

18:17 The first to present his case seems right, till another comes forward and questions him.

처음으로 자신의 주장을 내세운 사람이 옳은 듯하지만, 다른 사람이 나서서 그에게 질문한다.

18:18 Casting the lot(제비뽑기) settles disputes(분쟁을 해결하다) 제비뽑기는 분쟁을 해결하고 

and keeps strong opponents(상대) apart. 강력한 상대를 떼어놓는다.

keep ~ apart : 떼어놓다.

18:19 An offended brother is more unyielding(굴복하지 않는,완강한) than a fortified city,

분노한 형제는 견고한 성보다 더 완강하고

and disputes(분) are like the barred gates(빗장지른 문) of a citadel.(성채)

분쟁은 성채의 빗장문과 같다.

18:20 From the fruit of his mouth a man's stomach is filled; with the harvest from his lips he is satisfied.

사람은 입에서 나오는 말로 배부르고, 입술에서 나오는 열매로 만족한다.

18:21 The tongue has the power of life and death, 혀는 생명과 죽음의 능력을 갖고 있고

and those who love it will eat its fruit. 그것을 사랑하는 자들은 그것의 열매를 먹을 것이다. 

18:22 He who finds a wife finds what is good 아내를 얻는 자는 좋은 것을 얻고

and receives favor from the LORD.여호와로부터 은총(호의)을 얻는다.

18:23 A poor man pleads for mercy, but a rich man answers harshly.(엄하게)

가난한 사람이 긍휼을 구하나 부자는 엄하게 대답한다.

18:24 A man of many companions may come to ruin, 친구가 많은 사람은 망할 수도 있으나 

but there is a friend who sticks(붙다) closer than a brother. 형제보다 더 친밀한 친구가 있다.
