President Yoon Suk Yeol ordered the arrest of a Seoul lower court judge who recently acquitted opposition leader Lee Jae-myung in a perjury trial during the period of martial law, a lawyer representing the national police chief said Friday.
윤석열 대통령은 최근 계엄령 기간 중 위증 재판에서 야당 지도자 이재명 대표에게 무죄를 선고한 서울 하급심 판사를 체포하라고 지시했다고 경찰청장을 대리하는 변호사가 금요일 밝혔습니다.

The lawyer defending National Police Agency Commissioner-General Cho Ji-ho, who is being investigated over the botched martial law imposition, claimed that Judge Kim Dong-hyun of the Seoul Central District Court was included in Yoon's arrest list.
계엄령 위반 혐의로 조사를 받고 있는 조지호 경찰청장을 변호하는 변호사는 서울중앙지방법원 김동현 판사가 윤 씨의 체포 명단에 포함되었다고 주장했습니다.

Last month, Kim acquitted Lee, the leader of the main opposition Democratic Party (DP), of charges of suborning a former mayoral secretary to make false court testimony in his favor during a 2019 trial on his alleged election law violations.
지난달 김동현 판사는 2019년 선거법 위반 혐의 재판에서 전직 시장 비서관에게 허위 법정 증언을 유리하게 하도록 강요한 혐의로 제1야당인 민주당(DP)의 이 대표에게 무죄를 선고했습니다.

The ruling was seen as easing Lee's legal risks as a potential presidential runner in 2027.
Cho's lawyer said that Defense Counterintelligence Commander Lt. Gen. Yeo In-hyung called Cho shortly after martial law was declared and asked him to track the locations of some 15 politicians.
이번 판결은 2027년 대선 출마 가능성이 있는 이명박 후보의 법적 리스크를 완화한 것으로 평가받았습니다. 조지호 경찰청장의 변호사는 계엄령이 선포된 직후 여인형 국방방첩사령관이 조지호 경찰청장에게 전화를 걸어 약 15명의 정치인들의 위치를 추적해 달라고 요청했다고 말했습니다.

The Supreme Court issued a statement expressing "grave concern" and strong criticism over Cho's purported claims.

"If true, this represents a direct and serious infringement on judicial authority," it said.
"Such an incident must never occur in a state governed by the rule of law, and we urge a swift investigation to uncover the truth and ensure strict legal accountability," the court said.
