하나님이여 주는 나의 하나님이시라

O God, you are my God, earnestly I seek you;

I have seen you in the sanctuary

이와 같이 성소에서 주를 바라보았나이다

주의 인자가 생명보다 나으므로

예수님의 마지막 기도 The Last Prayer of Jesus

예수께서 나가사 습관을 좇아 감람산에 가시매 제자들도 좇았더니 그곳에 이르러 저희에게 이르시되 시험에 들지 않기를 기도하라 하시고 저희를 떠나 돌 던질 만큼 가서 무릎을 꿇고 기도하여 가라사대 아버지여 만일 아버지의 뜻이어든 이 잔을 내게서 옮기시옵소서. 그러나 내 원대로 마옵시고 아버지의 원대로 되기를 원하나이다. 하시니 사자가 하늘로부터 예수께 나타나 힘을 돕더라. 예수께서 힘쓰고 애써 더욱 간절히 기도하시니 땀이 땅에 떨어지는 피방울 같이 되더라. 기도 후에 일어나 제자들에게 가서 슬픔을 인하여 잠든 것을 보시고 이르시되 어찌하여 자느냐 시험에 들지 않게 일어나 기도하라 하시니라 누가복음 22:39-46

And He came out and proceeded as was His custom to the Mount of Olives; and the disciples also followed Him. When He arrived at the place, He said to them, "Pray that you may not enter into temptation." And He withdrew from them about a stone's throw, and He knelt down and began to pray, saying, "Father, if You are willing, remove this cup from Me; yet not My will, but Yours be done." Now an angel from heaven appeared to Him, strengthening Him. And being in agony He was praying very fervently; and His sweat became like drops of blood, falling down upon the ground. When He rose from prayer, He came to the disciples and found them sleeping from sorrow, and said to them, "Why are you sleeping? Get up and pray that you may not enter into temptation." Luke 22:39-46

‘젖 먹던 힘까지 다하다.’라는 표현이 있습니다. 그야말로 있는 힘껏 최선을 다한다는 의미입니다. 무언가를 얻기 위해서. 우리는 주님의 마지막 겟세마네 동산의 기도하시는 모습을 보면서 주님이 그야말로 온 힘을 다하여 기도하신다는 것을 느낍니다. 그래서 땀방울이 마치 땅에 떨어지는 핏방울 같이 되었다고 하였습니다. 그리고 그 핏방울은 십자가에서 흘리시는 핏방울을 연상케 합니다.

그런데 주님의 이 마지막 기도에는 좀 이상한 점이 있습니다. 흔히 땀을 흘리는 것은 무언가 열심히 수고할 때인데 이런 때는 우리의 의지가 작용하는 경우입니다. 하지만 주님이 하시는 기도는 오히려 하지 않겠다는 내용입니다. “만일 아버지의 뜻이어든 이 잔을 내게서 옮기시옵소서.” 그렇다고 아버지의 뜻에 반대하여 어떤 것을 못하겠다고 거역하는 것도 아니고 포기하는 것은 더욱더 아닙니다.

만일 포기하는 마음이라면 땀이 나지 않습니다. 그런데 주님은 땀이 날 정도로 기도를 하셨습니다. 결국 주님은 애쓰고 힘써서 무언가를 하지 않게 해달라고 하신 것인데 그것이 십자가였습니다. 그리고 상황은 십자가를 지시게 되었습니다. 이런 상황이 우리에게 중요한 것은 그것이 주님에게 한정된 것이 아니기 때문입니다. 주님의 대표성은 주님이 하셨으니 우리는 하지 않아도 된다는 것이 아닙니다.

오히려 주께서 보여주신 이 모습이 우리가 해야 할 것입니다. 우리는 우리의 의지로 살아갑니다. 그것은 삶을 버티고 무언가를 성취하는 동력이기도 합니다. 그것이 없으면 아무 것도 할 수 없습니다. 그것이 나 자신이기도 합니다. 그런데 흔히 십자가는 자기를 부인하는 것이라고 생각합니다. 그리고 자신을 부인하는 것은 어떤 것을 하지 않는 것이라고 여깁니다.

그러다보니 무기력해지거나 그것이 아니면 지나쳐 결국 욕심에 끌려가 버리게 됩니다. 주님이 자신을 죽이는 십자가를 앞에 두고 젖 먹던 힘까지 다하여 기도하신 것은 결국 젖 먹던 힘까지 다하는 자신을 십자가에 못 박는 것이었습니다. 이것은 하나의 사건의 기록도 아니고 어떤 성취에 대한 것도 아닙니다. 이는 우리가 이 세상에 나서 반드시 알아야 할 삶의 방식과 원리를 보여주신 것입니다.

주님의 땀방울이 핏방울로 될 때 하늘의 사자가 와서 도왔습니다. ‘하지 않음’으로가 아닌 오히려 ‘최선을 다하여’ 자신을 버리는 것입니다. 무언가를 얻기 위해 땀을 흘리고 최선을 다한 후, 하늘의 도우심을 바란다는 것과는 다른 내용입니다. 주님과 우리는 무엇을 얻기 위해서가 아니라 오히려 자신을 십자가에 못박는 일을 이야기 하고 있습니다.

즉 이는 성취에 대한 이야기가 아니라 자신에 관한 것입니다. 그리고 그 결국은 하나님의 사자의 도움, 즉 하나님의 능력이 함께 하시는 것입니다. ‘나는 할 만큼 다했으니 이제 하나님께서 이루실 줄 믿습니다.’ 이런 기도가 아니었습니다. 오히려 ‘이 최선을 다하고 있는 나 자신을 없애 주옵소서.’라고 기도하신 것입니다. 이를 두고 많은 묵상과 실천이 있어야 할 줄 압니다.

There's an expression‎ that says, "shoot one’s bolt." It simply means doing your best as much as you can. To get something. We feel that the Lord prays with all his might as well as we see him praying in the last Garden of Gethsemane. So the sweat drops became like blood drops falling on the ground. And the drops of blood are reminiscent of drops of blood flowing from the cross.

But there is something strange about this last prayer of the Lord. It's often when we sweat, that our will works hard. However, it is about not praying for the Lord. "Father, if You are willing, remove this cup from Me" But it doesn't mean that He refuses to do anything against His father's will, and it's not all the more that He gives up.

If you give up, you don't sweat. But the Lord prayed to the point of sweating. In the end, the Lord asked God not let Him to do something with effort, and that was the cross. And the situation led to the crucifixion. This situation is important to us because it is not limited to the Lord. His representation is not that we do not have to because He has done it.

Rather, what the Lord has shown us is what we should do. We live on our will. It's also the driving force behind enduring life and achieving something. You can't do anything without it. That's who I am, too. Now, we often think that the cross is a denial. And to deny yourself is not to do something.

As a result, you become lethargic or otherwise pass by and end up being dragged by greed. When the Lord prayed with all his might before the cross that killed him, he crucified himself with all his might. This is not a record of an event, nor is it about any achievement. It shows us the ways and principles of life that we must know in this world.

The angel of heaven came and helped when the drops of the Lord's sweat turned into drops of blood. It's not 'don't' but rather 'do your best' to abandon yourself. It's different from asking for help from heaven after sweating and doing your best to get something. The Lord and we are not talking about what we want, but rather about crucifying ourselves.

In other words, it's not about achievement, it's about self. And in the end, with the help of God's messenger, that is, God's power comes together. It wasn't a prayer like this, "I've done my best, so I believe God will come true now." Instead, he prayed, "Please get rid of myself who is doing my best." I know there needs to be a lot of meditation and practice on this.
