LATE ARRIVALS WELCOME  늦게 온 사람을 환영함

Matthew 20:1-16  

I wish to give to this last man the same as to you.

나중 온 이 사람에게 너와 같이 주는 것이 내 뜻이니라

                                                     —Matthew 마태복음20:14

어느 날 밤, 내가 양로원을 방문하였을 때

그곳에 있는 톰이라는 사람이 나와 이야기를 하려고 그의 방을 살짝 빠져나왔습니다.

얼마간 대화를 나눈 후에 그는

 “이렇게 늙은 다음에야 그리스도인이 된다면 하나님께서 불쾌해하지 않으실까요?”

하고 물었습니다.

톰의 질문은 놀랍지 않았습니다.

목사인 나는 노인들이나 중독에 빠진 사람들,

그리고 이전에 죄수로 수감되었던 사람들로부터 종종 비슷한 질문들을 듣습니다.

그들은 하나님을 만나거나 하나님이 그들을 사용하시기에

너무 늦었다고 믿을만한 정당한 이유가 있다고 생각합니다.

One night when I visited a nursing home,

a resident named Tom slipped out quietly from his room,

hoping to catch me to chat.

After we talked awhile, he asked,

“Won’t God be insulted

if I become a Christian this late in life?”

Tom’s question wasn’t a surprise.

As a chaplain,

I often hear it in varying forms from the elderly,

from those who struggle with addictions,

from former prisoners.

They think they have a legitimate reason to believe

it’s too late for them to know God or to be used by Him.

톰과 나는 성경에서 자신들의 과거로 인해

하나님을 아는데 너무 늦었다고 생각했을만한 사람들을 찾아보았습니다.

적어도 기생 라합(수 2:12-14; 히 11:31)과 세리 삭개오(눅 19:1-8)가

그들의 과거에도 불구하고 하나님을 향한 믿음을 선택하였습니다.

Tom and I spent time exploring people in Scripture

who, because of their past,

could have thought it was too late for them to know God.

But Rahab, a prostitute, and Zacchaeus, a tax collector,

chose faith in God despite their past.

우리는 포도원 품꾼에 대한 예수님의 예화도 찾아볼 수 있었습니다(마 20:1-16).

일찍 고용될수록 포도원 주인에게 더 많은 일을 해줄 수 있었겠지만(2-7절),

주인은 늦게 고용된 사람들도 같은 가치가 있다고 생각하여 동일한 품값을 주었습니다(8-16절).

포도원 주인은 모든 품군에게 똑같은 자비를 베푼 것입니다.

We also looked at Jesus’ parable of workers in the vineyard. 

The earlier the hire, the more labor

they were able to give the vineyard owner,

but those hired later discovered they had equal value

in the owner’s eyes and would be rewarded equally.

The vineyard owner chose to be gracious to them all.

우리의 과거나 현재가 어떻든지,

하나님은 우리에게 주님의 은혜를 보여주시며,

우리가 주님과 인격적인 관계를 맺게 되기를 간절히 바라십니다.

No matter our past or present,

God longs to show us His grace and

bring us into relationship with Him.            —Randy Kilgore

Father, we are amazed at Your grace! Thank You that we can come to You at any time for forgiveness and be restored to relationship with You. Thank You that we can now be used by You to touch the lives of others. To give your life to Christ now is to keep it forever.

하나님 아버지, 하나님의 은혜에 놀랄 뿐입니다! 언제든지 주님 앞에 나아가 용서를 구하고 관계를 회복할 수 있게 하시니 감사합니다. 다른 이들의 삶을 감동시키도록 우리를 사용하시니 감사합니다. 지금 그리스도께 당신의 삶을 드리면 영원히 살게 된다.
