<p>안녕하세요!</p><p>인강을 듣고 복습중.. 아무리 생각해도 이해가 잘 되지 않아서 질문드립니다☺️</p><p>문장 The boy saw the man with a telescope에 대한 두가지 해석 설명 중 ‘the boy saw the man by using a telescope’가 pp ‘with a telescope’가 the man을 수식하여 the man이 telescope를 갖는것이고</p><p>‘The boy saw the man who was holding a telescope’가 동사 saw를 수식해서 the boy가 telescope를 갖고 있다고 설명해주셨는데.. </p><p>아무리 다시 읽어보고 설명해주신대로 생각하고 넘어가려고 해도 처음이 the man을 수식한게 아니라 saw를 수식한것으로 the boy가 telescope를 가졌다고 하고, 두번째가 the man을 수식해서 the man이 telescope 를 가진것이라고 생각이 들어서요.. 제가 어느 포인트에서 이해를 놓치고 있는건지 궁금합니다. </p>

(1) the PP 'with the telescope' modifies the Noun 'man', so the interpretation is that the man has the telescope
(2) the PP 'with a telescope' modifies the V-bar, the action of seeing the man, so the interpretation is that the boy saw the man by using the telescope.
