As you know South Korea hosted Worldcup together with Japan in 2002. Nevertheless it looks like to me that there is still very limited information about South Korean football stadiums, compared to European or South American ones on internet and that's why I created this thread.
K League is the top professional football league in South Korea and the first professional football league in Asia. It was founded in 1983 with 5 initial members and has continuously expanded to consist of 14 members as of 2008 season. The average attendance of 2007 season was 11,871, which increased by 19.1% from that of the last season 9,966. One characteristic about K League is that there is a team where the entire squad consists of only active soldiers who are accomplishing their military duty with football instead of rifle. Guess which out of 14 teams. I'll let you know the answer when this thread gathers the 100th reply
Out of 14 stadiums of K League, 10 are 2002 WC stadiums of which 6 are for football only and 4 are for multi-purpose and I listed them in capacity order especially with WC stadiums marked bold and blue. As you know from the years built of WC stadiums, we built all the stadiums newly for the tournament without having just a single refurbishment or expansion. To the extent of my knowledge this is the first (and maybe last?) case in Worldcup history. I know, of course, some may think that is waste of money indeed, but how about thinking that South Koreans were eager for their stadium development as much?

In order to bring spectators closer to the pitch, retractable stands with approximately 5,000 capacity have been installed on one end and one side at the cost of ?600K in March this year
Retractable stands were installed on the opposite side of main tribune and on the home supporters sector this year. Total capacity is around 5,000 with 3,500 on the side and 1,500 on the end

- Built : 2001
- Suite Box : None
- Remark : During 2002 WC, it had the capacity of 42,256 including a hemispherical temporary stand with approximately 8,000 seats on the second tier of east tribune. After the tournament, they were moved to other small stadium in 2004. So, the current capacity of Jeju Worldcup Stadium is 34,000
The hemispherical 2nd tier stand was to be moved to other stadium in the very planning stage because the stadium is located in a city too small to support 42K capacity. The location is Seogwipo City and its population is only 150,000
The temporary stand was removed and the seats there were moved to a small stadium called 'Kangchanghak Stadium' in 2004, which reduced the capacity from 42,256 to 34,000

- Remark : It is the first football-specific stadium and one of two private-built stadiums in South Korea (The other is Gwangyang Football Stadium. Both of them were built by the club's owner POSCO which is the third largest steel producer in the world). Fyi, like in many other countries, it is not allowed legally to own a stadium privately in our country, so the club operates the stadium by way of leasing back in the long term after donating to the state. Fxxxing Korean bureaucracy
