듀크의 모범생 쉐인 베티에가 자신이 자라났던 디트로잇에서 캐리어를 끝내고 싶다네요..

자신이 드래프트 될 당시 디트로잇은 9픽을 갖고 있었는데.. 자신이 픽되기를 원했었다네요..

Shane Battier grew up in the Detroit area and spoke candidly on Saturday about the feelings he still has about the area.

“Detroit had the ninth pick that year,” said Battier about his draft class. “I really wanted to come here. It would have been a dream come true.”

“I would love to finish my career here,” he said. “That’s my dream now, even though I’m happy the way things have gone so far.”

He and his wife purchased a condo in the Detroit area and he plans to move there permanently when he retires. [READ]

Stern's Silencing Of Cuban Draws Questions

The muzzling of Mark Cuban by the NBA did not go over unanimously at the recent Board of Governors meeting.

According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, Bobcats owner Bob Johnson asked David Stern if such draconian measures - giving the Commish the power to suspend any owner who disparages the league publicly - were in everyone's best interests. And shouldn't this be handled by a committee of owners instead of by Stern alone?

Then, according to two sources, when Johnson further suggested that this was a personal matter between Cuban and Stern that the two of them should settle, Stern went ballistic, telling Johnson that this was a league matter, not an individual one, and that the value of investments such as Johnson's $300 million to get the Charlotte expansion franchise were hurt when Cuban constantly belittled the on-court product.

In the end, Stern got his way. And Cuban may have gotten off lightly. The Inquirer is reporting that some hard-line owners were proposing fines up to $5 million per pop-off - which would dwarf the $1.45 million Cuban's been hit with so far for various verbal indiscretions. [READ]

Shaquille O'Neal underwent successful surgery Sunday to repair a flap tear in the articular cartilage of his left knee, according to the Heat.

The 45-minute surgery was performed at Doctor's Hospital in Coral Gables by team physician Harlan Selesnick. The team previously said O'Neal would be capable of beginning rehabilitation immediately following the procedure. [READ]

Nets forward Cliff Robinson may be down with a left knee injury, the New York Post is reporting.

Robinson said after last night's 86-68 loss to the Blazers that he tweaked his knee in the first half and will go for an MRI today. He did not recall exactly how he hurt the knee.

"I'm going to get an MRI tomorrow to make sure I didn't tear anything. But right now, I don't know," said Robinson. "I don't know what play. I think it was on a drive to the basket but I don't recall." [READ]

Isiah Thomas picked the wrong time to stage a one-man protest.

The Knicks coach was ejected in the fourth quarter of Boston's 122-118 victory at the Garden last night, essentially giving away two points that his team desperately could not afford to lose.

The ejection came with 2:15 remaining, and the Knicks, who had overcome a 20-point second-half deficit, trailing by six with possession of the ball. However, Thomas argued his way into two technical fouls - both called by referee Joe DeRosa - that helped the Celts extend their lead to eight.

When asked about the incident, Thomas, after a long pause, said, "We're at home and it speaks for itself. You watch the game and it speaks for itself." [READ]

"He told me, 'Hey, I need you to be who you are,' " Bowen said. " 'Not this guy worrying about what someone is going to say or do regarding you.'

"Once I got his word, it was almost like, 'You may marry my daughter.' I was like, 'Well, OK.' "
