13절
육신의 일은 현저합니다. 곧 죽음을 향한 발걸음을 계속 걷게되는 늪과 같은 삶의 열매입니다. 여기서 빠져나오는 길은 영으로 몸의 행실을 죽이는 것입니다. 육신의 인도대신 성령의 인도를 따르는 것입니다. 행실로 번역된 단어는 mislead로 되어 있습니다. 몸의 그릇된 인도를 거절한다는 것입니다.

14절
영으로 인도함을 받는 것은 성령의 주권을 인정하고 나의 욕심과 계획과 노력을 내려놓고 성령님께 삶의 키를 맡기는 것입니다. 마치 배를 처음 산 사람이 노련한 항해사에게 배를 맡기는 것과 같습니다. 선원의 조언을 무시하고 내 뜻대로 가다가는 난파하기 좋을 뿐입니다. 인생의 항해를 주님께 맡기는 것은 지혜로운 사람의 특권입니다.

15절
종의 영과 양자의 영은 두 가지 다른 감정으로 대비됩니다. 종은 두려워함으로 섬깁니다. 아들은 친밀감과 안심으로 아버지를 따릅니다. 종의 영은 율법으로 대표되는 정죄의 삶입니다. 두려움으로 떨며 그의 낯을 피하는 것이 아니라 아버지의 품으로 뛰어드는 것이 자녀의 모습입니다.

16절
성령과 우리의 영이 함께 자녀임을 증언한다고 합니다. 성령은 우리의 편이십니다. 말할 수 없는 탄식으로 기도할 줄 모르는 우리를 위해 대신 간구하시는 분이십니다. 이제는 성령께서 나의 삶을 지도하시고 나는 그의 인도함을 받아 그를 따릅니다. 인생은 순풍에 돛단듯 미끄러져 나갑니다. 때로 고난과 풍랑의 밤을 만나도 안정된 그 분의 지도를 믿고 순항할 수 있습니다.

17절
자녀이면 상속자라고 합니다. 상속은 영광의 측면만을 부각시킵니다. 그러나 고난의 다른 면도 있습니다. 그 분의 나라를 얻기위해서 고난과 영광은 양 날의 검처럼 우리의 심령을 단련하십니다.

오늘도 인도하시는 등불되신 성령님의 인도를 따라 남은 인생길을 달려갑니다. 숙련된 인도자로서 우리를 이끄시는 그의 손길에 온전히 의지합니다. 매일의 삶에서 나를 위하여 증언하시는 성령님의 음성을 듣습니다. 양자되어 상속자로 서도록 돌보시고 긍휼히 여기시는 아버지의 선하신 눈길을 마주 바라봅니다.

Led by the Spirit of God

Verse 13
The deeds of the flesh are evident. They are the fruit of a swamp-like life that continuously leads one down a path toward death. The way to escape this is to put to death the misdeeds of the body by the Spirit. It means following the guidance of the Holy Spirit instead of the flesh. The word translated as 'misdeeds' (행실) implies being 'misled,' signifying the rejection of the body's erroneous leading.

Verse 14
To be led by the Spirit means acknowledging the sovereignty of the Holy Spirit, laying down our desires, plans, and efforts, and entrusting the rudder of our lives to Him. It's like a person who has just bought a ship entrusting it to an experienced navigator. If we disregard the navigator's advice and insist on going our own way, we are likely to be shipwrecked. Entrusting the voyage of our lives to the Lord is the privilege of the wise.

Verse 15
The spirit of slavery and the spirit of adoption are contrasted with two different emotions. A slave serves out of fear. A son, however, follows his father with intimacy and security. The spirit of slavery represents a life of condemnation, characterized by the law. The mark of a child is not to tremble in fear and hide from their father's presence, but to run into his arms.

Verse 16
The Holy Spirit and our spirit testify together that we are children of God. The Holy Spirit is on our side. He intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words, for we do not know how to pray. Now, the Holy Spirit guides my life, and I follow His leading. Life then sails smoothly, as if with the wind. Even if we encounter nights of hardship and storms, we can sail steadily, trusting in His stable guidance.

Verse 17
If we are children, then we are heirs. Inheritance often emphasizes only the aspect of glory. However, it also has another side: suffering. To obtain His kingdom, suffering and glory, like a double-edged sword, refine our hearts.

Today, too, I run the rest of my life's journey following the guidance of the Holy Spirit, who is a guiding light. I fully rely on His hand, leading us as a skilled guide. In my daily life, I hear the voice of the Holy Spirit testifying for me. I look into the benevolent eyes of the Father who cares for me and has mercy on me, that I might stand as an adopted child and heir.
