7월에 이어 8월도 계속 덥고 날씨가 고르지 않았지만 월말이 되면서 햇살은 여전해도 특히 아침에는 약간의 선선함을 느낍니다.

전 세계적인 전쟁과 지진 소식, 그리고 미국의 서남부 지역에 집중호우와 돌발홍수 등의 안타까운 소식들을 접합니다만 주변에 비해 비가 적은 이곳에서 저희들은 그냥저냥 잘 지내고 있으니 감사한 일입니다.

지나간 시간들을 돌이켜보면 그때는 어쩌니 저쩌니 했어도 다 살아지고 (사라지고) 견뎌지는 모양입니다.

Following July, August was also hot and the weather was unsettled, but as the month came to an end, the sunshine remained, though in the mornings I could feel a slight coolness.

We hear heartbreaking news of wars and earthquakes around the world, as well as heavy rains and sudden flash floods in the southwestern United States, but we are doing fairly well in here since we have relatively less rain than the surrounding areas.

Looking back on the times that have passed, even though we complained about what to do then, it seems everything still comes to life and endures.

사역부지, 거주부지, 그리고 중장기 동역자 확보 문제

현지사정상 나바호 정부와의 건축부지는 거의 포기상태지만 포기할 수 없는 방과후학교 사역을 위해 대안을 강구하고 있습니다.

실은 나바호 당국과 2000sf 임대를 얘기하고 있었습니다만, 그리고 주겠다는 확인도 받았었습니다만 결국 딴 사람에게 돌아가고 말았습니다.

(실망감에 한 이틀 뒷목과 가슴에 상당한 통증과 압박감을 경험했습니다. 아내가 스스로 침을 맞으라고 하는데 그냥 참고 버텼습니다.)

그 배경에 우여곡절이 있었겠지만 결국 제 자신의 부족으로 그리 되었을 것이니 그저 몸과 마음을 낮출 뿐입니다.

그러나 철새가 수많은 풍향의 변화 가운데서도 목적지에 도달할 때까지 날갯짓을 포기할 수 없는 것처럼 저 또한 이리저리 살피고 이리저리 날갯짓을 계속하고 있습니다.

우리를 인도하시고 공급하시는 하나님의 은혜는 차고 넘치지만 제 자신이 과연 하나님의 뜻을 바로 알고 바로 따르는가 하는 것은 끝없는 자기검열과 자기반성의 과제가 아닐 수 없네요.

놀라운 하나님의 능력과 영광 가운데 애급을 떠난 이스라엘 백성들이 광야에서 우왕좌왕 헤매던 사십 년이 저의 인생이요 저의 사역인가 싶습니다.

갑자기 떠오르는 어떤 옛 가요의 가사가 생각나 그냥 우스개로 가사를 찾아보니 다음과 같네요. ㅋ

유정천리라는 노래의 2절입니다.

           세상을 원망하랴 내 아내를 원망하랴

Business Site, Home Site, and Mid/Long-Term Field Missionary Needed

Due to local circumstances, the building site with the Navajo government is almost abandoned, but alternatives are being sought for the after-school ministry that cannot be abandoned.

Actually, I was discussing a 2,000 sf lease with a Navajo office, and even I had received confirmation that they would give it to me, but in the end it went to someone else.

(In my disappointment, I experienced considerable pain and pressure in the back of my neck and chest for a couple of days. My wife told me to needle to myself, but I just endured rather.)

There may have been many twists and turns behind it, but in the end, it must have come to my own shortcomings, so I can only humble myself.

But just as a migratory bird cannot give up its wingbeats amid countless changes in wind direction until it reaches its destination, I too am looking here and there, continuing to flap my wings in every direction.

God's grace, who leads us and provides us abundantly, is overflowing, yet whether I truly understand and follow God's will rightly is nothing less than an endless task of self-censorship and self-reflection.

The forty years in which the Israelites, having left Egypt in the midst of God's amazing power and glory, wandered aimlessly in the wilderness might have been my life I wonder if this is my life and ministry.

A line from an old Korean song suddenly popped up in my head, so I looked up the lyrics just for fun, and they are as following. haha

This is the second verse of the song “Yujeong Cheonri.”

           Should I blame the world, or blame my wife?

           My sister Hyesook. You may live happily.

           How many bends does the endless road of life has?

           In a thousand miles of fertile land, flowers bloom;

           In a thousand miles of barren land, snow falls.

목회 사역

8월 다섯 번의 주일 중에 네 번을 Bitter Springs Baptist Church에서 (마태복음 마치고 출애굽기 시작), 넷째 주일에는 Tuba City Presbyterian Church에서 예배드리며 말씀을 나눴습니다.

당 금요일 저녁에 전달된 예상하지 못했던 초청이었지만 마침 BSBC를 거르는 주여서 응낙할 수 있었습니다.

당 장로교회와는 꽤 오래된 공동의 사연들이 많았었는데 이번 방문은 2년 반 만이었습니다.

그 교회에도 하나님의 섭리가 함께 하실 것인데 결국은 우리가 그 섭리 안에서 어떻게 믿고 섬길 것이냐가 과제입니다.

PASTORAL MINISTRY

Out of the five Sundays in August, we worshiped and shared messages at Bitter Springs Baptist Church four times (finished Matthew and begins Exodus), and on the fourth Sunday, at Tuba City Presbyterian Church.

It was an unexpected invitation that was delivered on a Friday evening, but since it happened to be a week that we skip BSBC, I was able to accept it.

There had been many shared stories with the Presbyterian Church for quite some time, but this visit was our first in two and a half years.

God’s providence will be with that church as well, but ultimately the task is how we will believe and serve within that providence.

장마당사역: 무료 침치료 및 문서사역

8월에는 날씨가 궂어서였는지 제 정성이 부족했는지 침치료 35건, 문서사역 6건으로 사역이 저조했습니다. (하지만 모든 사역은 소중합니다.)

2019년 이후 (판데믹 16개월 빼고) 천막, 캠핑카, 버스 등으로 갈아타며 힘차게 달려온 듯한데 앞으론 어떻게 펼쳐질 것인지, 체력은 언제까지 버텨줄 것인지 이 또한 마음 약한 소인배의 파적과제가 아닐 수 없군요.

MARKET MINISTRY with Free Acupuncture and Booklet Ministry

Perhaps because the weather was bad in August, or maybe because I lacked dedication, our ministry was slow, with only 155 acupuncture treatments and 30 document ministry tasks completed. (Every individual ministry is precious though.)

Since 2019 (excluding the 16 months of the pandemic), it seems we've been charging ahead energetically, switching between tents, campers, buses, and so on, but how things will unfold from here and how long our strength will hold up are also time killing challenge for this weak-hearted person.
