The price of bitcoin continued its monthslong slide Thursday, falling another 11 percent to $67,000, its lowest level in 15 months.

비트코인 가격은 목요일(2월 6일)에도 11% 추가 하락하며 15개월 만에 최저치를 기록했다.

The original cryptocurrency, pitched as “digital gold,” has lost 46 percent of its value since Oct. 6, when it hit a record high of $126,210.50, according to crypto trading platform Coinbase. As of 10:30 a.m. EST Thursday, its price had dipped to $67,245.

After the election of President Donald Trump in November of 2024, Bitcoin prices chugged higher for the better part of a year, in part due to investors' expectations of a more crypto-friendly administration in Washington.

2024년 11월 도널드 트럼프 대통령 당선 이후 비트코인 가격은 워싱턴에서 암호화폐에 우호적인 행정부가 들어설 것이라는 투자자들의 기대감에 힘입어 거의 1년 동안 상승세를 보였다.

Companies that enable investors to buy and sell cryptocurrencies, as well as the growing number of companies who have made investing in bitcoin their main business focus, have also been hit hard in the recent sell-off.

암호화폐 매매를 지원하는 기업들과 비트코인 투자를 주요 사업으로 삼는 기업들 역시 최근의 매도세로 큰 타격을 입었다.

Coinbase Global fell 9.1 percent and online trading platform Robinhood Markets lost 8.1 percent. Bitcoin mining company Riot Platforms dropped 10 percent.

Strategy, the biggest of the so-called crypto treasury companies that raises money just to buy bitcoin, tumbled 13 percent. The company, formerly called MicroStrategy, reports on its website holdings of 713,502 bitcoin. With the average purchase prices for those above $76,000, it means the company is under water on the investment. Thursday morning its bitcoin holdings were worth about $47.8 billion, less than the $54.3 billion Strategy says they cost.

비트코인 매입만을 위해 자금을 모으는 이른바 암호화폐 재무 회사 중 최대 규모인 스트래티지(Strategy)의 주가가 13% 급락했다. 과거 마이크로스트래티지 (MicroStrategy)로 알려졌던 이 회사는 웹사이트를 통해 713,502개의 비트코인을 보유하고 있다고 밝혔다. 비트코인 평균 매입 가격이 7만 6천 달러가 넘는다는 점을 고려하면, 스트래티지는 투자에서 손실을 보고 있는 것으로 보인다. 목요일 오전 기준, 스트래티지의 비트코인 보유 가치는 약 478억 달러로, 회사 측이 밝힌 매입 가격 543억 달러보다 낮았다.

American Bitcoin, in which Trump’s sons Eric Trump and Donald Trump Jr. hold a stake, fell 6.6 percent and is now down more than 80 percent since Oct. 7.

도널드 트럼프의 아들인 에릭 트럼프와 도널드 트럼프 주니어가 지분을 보유하고 있는 아메리칸 비트코인(American Bitcoin)은 6.6% 하락했으며, 10월 7일 이후 80% 이상 폭락했다.

Other Trump-related crypto ventures have declined as well. The market value for the World Liberty Financial token, or $WLFI, has fallen to about $3.25 billion from above $6 billion in mid-September, according to coinmarketcap.com. And the price of a meme coin named for President Donald Trump, $TRUMP, is $3.93, a fraction of the $45 asking price just before his inauguration in January.
