『홀』을 쓰고 나서는 나는 소설 쓰는 사람이구나, 하는 확신이랄까 배짱이랄까 그런 게 생겼어. 쓰는 일에 대한 온전한 즐거움을 겪었고, 소설과 손을 두텁게 맞잡은 느낌도 알게 됐지. 그 후에 다시 단편소설도 쓸 수 있게 됐어. 미진하고 마음에 안 들었지만 어쨌거나 이야기를 완성할 수 있었고, 당시의 최선을 다할 수 있었어.
