누가 전문가인가?

사회사업가는 (사회사업가 나름의) 전문 지식·기술이 있습니다.

그러나 사회사업가만 전문가인 건 아닙니다.

당사자의 일에 관한 한 당사자가 최고의 전문가입니다.

당사자야말로 자신의 상황과 능력을 가장 잘 아는 사람입니다.   

Social workers bring professional expertise to the relationship, but they are not the sole experts.

Clients are the most qualified experts about their own situations. Quite simply, they know their circumstances and capabilities best.

사회사업가는 당사자 및 당사자의 지역사회와 역할을 나누어 상호보완적으로 협력합니다. 사회사업가, 당사자, 당사자의 지역사회가 각각 나름의 경험과 역량을 가지고 있기 때문입니다.

초기에는

사회사업 분야의 전문가들(교수 및 선배 사회사업가)에게서 배운 방식대로 했습니다. 

이제는

다른 전문가들 - 클라이언트들에게서 배우고 있습니다. 

이 전문가들은, 문제 그 너머를 보라고 합니다.

문제를 해결해 주려고 하지 말고, 당사자가 자기 강점을 개발하고 해결책을 찾게 도와주라고 합니다. 

Mark built his early practice by using this framework offered by experts in the field.

Now, as a practicing social worker, Mark is learning from other experts in the field—his clients. These experts are teaching him to look beyond their presenting problems, to shift the attention of the work from solving problems per se to helping them achieve their goals by developing their strengths and finding solutions.
