Vintage 1954 Henri Selmer Paris 24B Bb Trumpet.
in SUPER EXCELLENT CONDITION, with just one tiny dent that we didnt bother to have fixed.
The Original Honey Gold Lacquer is still 80 to 85% intact.
Serial Number 14214 dates this horn to 1954.
all Valves, Caps, stems and bottom caps are marked 40, 41 and 42.
This Selmer DOES NOT have the 1st Valve trigger, thats something most players do not prefer!
The Receiver only says 24B (Medium Large Bore) at first we thought this was a Balanced Model because it wasnt marked K-Modified on the receiver. A very knowledgeable trumpet collector has informed us that it is NOT a Balanced Model because the valves are located closer to the Mouthpiece whereas a Balanced model would have had the valves located closer to the bell .
This is actually a very early first year production example of the K-Modified, 1954 was also the same year that Selmer introduced their highly coveted Mark VI Saxophones. So Collectors take Note!
Another additional note, all three valves are stamped "K" directly below the numbers 40, 41 and 42.
We just had our repairman inspect and give it a light cleaning, its in top playing condition with excellent compression!
No stuck slides or caps, and it was lubricated for this sale...
This horn has never had any previous signs of damage or repairs, its in fantastic shape for a 55 year old trumpet with its original lacquer !!!
The Original Selmer Zipper case is in GREAT CONDITION TOO! it comes complete with an old OLDS 5 mouthpiece and two Mutes.

Question (7/9/2007)
Dear Mike,
I have just acquired a Henri Selmer Paris Silver Trumpet. It is in good playing condition with minor wear and tear. It has a engraved bell with the following inscribed on top.
Henri
SELMER
Paris
DEPOSE
GRAND PRIX
GENEVE 1927 BARCELONE 1929
LIEGE 1930
BRITISH AGENT
12 MOOR ST
LONDON

Also along the bell pipe it has 'Louis Armstrong Special'.
On the upper 1st valve casing it has the number 9 the 2nd number 8 and the third number 7. Further down the 2nd casing it has the serial number 914 followed by
BALANCED
*
L. Armstrong
Can you please tell me anything about this horn and its value.
Regards
Andrew Little

Answer
Your trumpet is a pro model made by Henri Selmer Paris. The engraving means that they were the gold medal winner in design at the 1927, 1929, and 1930 competitions. The serial number means that the horn was built in the 1934. Selmer numbered their valves in sequence from 1-99 in groups of three, so your horn was the third in a batch. It is definitely a very good player and is quite collectable. The Balanced model is one of the most sought after models in the Selmer line. With the Armstrong special marking it should easily be worth $2000 and possibly more if in very good shape.
