Hi!
I'm KY.
A few days ago, when it first snowed in Seoul, I remembered some precious memories of snow when my family lived in Germany. And I'd like to share them with you! I hope I'm not bothering you, Please enjoy!
The first snow is here, and screams of delight and joy echo through the streets. When I woke up
in bed, I saw the window ledge covered with snow. It was cold, but I
immediately got out of my bed, happiness frothing inside me. Bundled up and ready
to go outside, I struggled to put on my wellingtons because of the thick,
woollen socks I had been forced to wear outside. Outside, my friends were
waiting for me, they too were excited. One of them had come prepared, bringing
a carrot, a woollen old scarf, and an old hat. I knew what they were planning
to do, even before they said “Schnee Mann” (snowman in German). We ran
outside, boots crunching on the snow. It was knee deep but that didn’t stop us
getting into the giant garden my family owned. It was surely the most
magnificent snowman of all time, the one we made. It was humungous and it took
3 hours to make. One giant snowball on top of another. The snowman snugly
sported the Scarf, hat and carrots and we went in search of stones. All
together, we managed to gather around 50 stones. Some were put into use for its
black smiley dotted mouth, while others were made for buttons of our snowman.
We later named it “Orange-Nase” meaning literally orange nose. Then we all lay
down on the freezing snow and moved out arms and legs, up and down, up and
down. We compared who’s snow angel looked the prettiest and biggest, and the
two twins started having an argument about it. We skipped off to the road, and
made snowballs, ready to throw them at passing cars. In the times when there
were no cars passing by, we would spend the time polishing the snowballs so
that they looked smooth and appealing. It was quite a pity to throw them later
on and when we got bored of seeing the astonished and annoyed (in some cases
angry) faces of the drivers, we brewed up more mischief, ringing the doorbells of people and throwing snowballs at
them when they came out shivering, in their pyjamas. When we finished doing
that to every house on the street, we went into the forest which was covered in
snow. The giant dark green trees were overloaded with snow, sometimes falling
down on a misfortunate person standing beneath. When it started to grow dark
and we began to grow afraid, we stiffly walked back home, our whole body being
numb for being in the snow for so long. That is one of the days I spent with my
German neighbours in Germany when I was 7 years old.
