The exhibition will feature about 20 new works that combine mythical imagery and folk painting elements with the artist's everyday sensibilities.A notable aspect of this exhibition is the unique visual language constructed through the artist's distinctive symbolic imagery and vivid color contrasts. Motifs such as stars and crescent moons in the night sky, spaceships, mask-like faces, and airplanes contain both fairy tale-like and philosophical depths. Works featuring a character with a green hat and tricolor face, a tricolor face wearing a crown of thorns, and a spaceship against a blue night sky highlight Lee's original cosmic perspective and color sensibility.The artist explained his exhibition intent: "There were many variables in my work during a time when I personally experienced significant events and the country was going through turbulent times. As an artist, and above all as a member of the established generation, I tried to capture these experiences through artistic language." The exhibition title "To the Boy You Once Were" unfolds a visual narrative about nostalgia for one's pure past self and reflection that penetrates the present.Particularly noteworthy are works depicting white figures holding hands and walking under stars against a blue background (previously mentioned as "People Walking Following the Stars"), along with pieces featuring a character wearing a green hat with a red heart symbolizing the heart, a tricolor face wearing a crown of thorns, and rocket-shaped forms that appear to be flying through space. These works effectively demonstrate the combination of the artist's folk painting imagination and contemporary visual language.In his work notes, the artist has stated, "Painting begins with minimal clues," adding that "a single line, the first point on the canvas, a single word containing all kinds of images—the creation of a painting is either a continuous series of events or an overlapping of them." The works in this exhibition likewise convey complex stories and emotions through simple yet intense colors and forms.Works by Kang-wook Lee, whose pieces are in the collections of Busan Museum of Art, Daejeon Museum of Art, and Lee Jung-seop Art Museum, can be viewed at Gallery Dam, located at 72 Yunboseon-gil, Jongno-gu, Seoul, from April 29 to May 10. The gallery is open from noon to 6 PM Monday through Saturday, and from noon to 5 PM on Sundays. 민화적 상상력과 현대적 감성이 만나는 우주적 서사갤러리 담에서는 4월 29일부터 5월 10일까지 이강욱 작가의 개인전 '소년이었던 너에게'가 개최됩니다. 신화적 이미지와 민화적 요소에 작가의 일상적 감성을 결합한 20여 점의 신작이 관람객을 맞이한다.이번 전시에서 특히 주목할 점은 작가 특유의 상징적 이미지와 선명한 색채 대비를 통해 구축한 독특한 시각 언어이다. 밤하늘의 별과 초승달, 우주선, 가면과 같은 얼굴, 그리고 비행기와 같은 모티프들은 동화적이면서도 철학적인 깊이를 품고 있다. 녹색 모자를 쓴 인물의 삼색 얼굴, 가시관을 쓴 삼색 얼굴, 푸른 밤하늘을 배경으로 한 우주선과 같은 작품들에서는 이강욱 작가만의 독창적인 우주관과 색채 감각이 두드러진다.작가는 "개인적으로 큰 일이 있었고 국가도 어지러운 시절을 지나고 있는 때에 작업에 변수가 많았는데 작가로서 그리고 무엇보다 기성세대로서 이러한 일들을 미술적 언어로 담으려 노력했다"고 전시 의도를 밝혔습니다. 전시 제목인 '소년이었던 너에게'는 순수했던 과거의 자아에 대한 향수와 현재를 관통하는 성찰을 시각적 서사로 풀어내고 있다.특히 푸른 배경에 흰색 인물들이 손을 잡고 별 아래 걷는 모습을 표현한 작품(이전 보도자료에서 언급된 '별을 따라 걷는 사람들')과 함께, 심장을 상징하는 빨간 하트가 있는 녹색 모자를 쓴 인물, 가시관을 쓴 삼색 얼굴, 그리고 우주를 비행하는 듯한 로켓 형상의 작품들은 작가의 민화적 상상력과 현대적 시각언어의 결합을 잘 보여준다.작가는 자신의 작업 노트에서 "회화는 최소한의 단서에서 시작한다"며 "한줄기의 선, 화면의 첫 시작점, 온갖 이미지를 품고 있는 단어 하나, 그림이 그려지는 것은 매번 사건들의 연속이거나 중첩"이라고 밝힌 바 있다. 이번 전시의 작품들 역시 단순하면서도 강렬한 색채와 형태를 통해 복잡한 이야기와 감정을 전달한다.부산시립미술관, 대전시립미술관, 이중섭미술관 등에 작품이 소장되어 있는 이강욱 작가의 이번 전시는 4월 29일부터 5월 10일까지 서울 종로구 윤보선길 72 갤러리 담에서 관람할 수 있다. 월요일부터 토요일까지는 정오부터 오후 6시까지, 일요일은 정오부터 오후 5시까지 오픈한다. 이강욱 작가노트소년이었던 너에게 담장아래 제비꽃 같았던 어떤 시절을 기억할까아이는 뛰어다녔지 볕을 이불삼던 나무들은 알던 새들을 떠나 보내고어제의 풀들은 예전에 사라졌다 당신이 아이였을 때당신이 별들을 의심하지 않았을 때작은 꽃들을 밟지 않으려 할 때 환하게 웃던 정당한 분노가 사그라지지 않았을 때소년이었던 너는 계절과 별들의 운율을 부끄러워 했다 비가 내리는데 이유가 없을까어디서 바람이 불어오고어디서 구름이 몰려온다언젠가 시간에 가려지지 않는 것들이평범한 어느 날 새벽꿈에 다시 이어지는 것이다 두고 온 것들이 당신의 소년이었을 땐눈물처럼그 시절을 같이 가야하는 것이다 202504 - K - To you, who was a boy Do you remember a time like the violets beneath the fence?
