SEOUL, Dec. 24 (Yonhap) -- The main opposition Democratic Party (DP) vowed Tuesday to immediately take steps to impeach acting President Han Duck-soo over his refusal to promulgate two special counsel bills targeting President Yoon Suk Yeol and first lady Kim Keon Hee.

Rep. Park Chan-dae, the DP floor leader, made the remark shortly after a Cabinet meeting led by Han ended without reviewing the two bills calling for special counsel investigations into Yoon's short-lived imposition of martial law and corruption allegations involving Kim.

"We will immediately begin impeachment proceedings against acting President and Prime Minister Han Duck-soo," Park said during a party meeting, claiming Han clearly stated his opposition to promulgating the bills.

"There is no other way to interpret this than (as a tactic) to buy time and prolong the insurrection," he said, referring to characterizations of Yoon's martial law declaration as an insurrection.
​
The DP had earlier threatened to take steps to impeach Han unless he signed the bills into law Tuesday.
​
When the DP will take action remains undecided, however, as the party could wait to see whether Han appoints justices to fill vacancies at the Constitutional Court ahead of its trial on the National Assembly's impeachment of Yoon over the martial law decree.
​
A senior official at the Prime Minister's Office expressed regret over the DP's threat to impeach Han.
​
"I find it extremely regrettable and believe they will think it over more carefully from here on," he told reporters.

(서울=연합뉴스) 임형섭 안정훈 기자 = 더불어민주당이 한덕수 대통령 권한대행 국무총리에 대한 탄핵소추안을 24일 발의하기로 했다.

민주당 윤종군 원내대변인은 이날 국회에서 열린 의원총회 직후 기자들을 만나 "국무총리 한덕수에 대한 탄핵소추안을 만장일치 당론으로 채택했다"며 이같이 밝혔다.

윤 원내대변인은 "오늘 발의 후 26일에 예정된 본회의에 보고하게 될 것"이라고 덧붙였다.

조승래 수석대변인 역시 기자들을 만나 "오늘 한 권한대행의 국무회의 발언은 사실상 '국민의힘이 동의하지 않는다면 특검법 수용이든 헌법재판관 임명이든 하지 않겠다'는 것이었다"며 "국회라는 헌법기관을 정지시키려는 시도이기 때문에 도저히 묵과할 수 없다는 데에 의원들이 인식을 공유했다"고 설명했다.
