Mitchell Questions Kidd's Knee Strain

Sam Mitchell wondered last night whether Jason Kidd pulled off the "Charade-of-the-Year."

After Jason Kidd sliced up his Raptors with 19 assists, 16 rebounds and 16 points as the Nets captured Game 3 in a 102-89 Meadowlands rout, Mitchell described the Nets point guard's left-knee strain this way: "Supposedly, with this so-called injury he had."

Mitchell's players were baffled afterward that Kidd was classified "a game-time decision" after missing Thursday's practice and visiting doctors in Manhattan.

"No, he didn't look like he had an injury," said Chris Bosh, who looked hurt himself with an invisible 11-point, 3-of-10 outing, clogged by Kidd helping on the double-team. "I know how that is sometimes."

The young Raptors are fast learning playoff gamesmanship. Kidd already had his triple-double sealed midway through the third quarter, running their glorious fastbreak.

"You couldn't tell he had a strained right knee tonight," said a frustrated Mo Peterson, who committed a flagrant foul in the third quarter, bashing a driving Richard Jefferson in the neck. "To do what he did was almost unbelievable. That's what I'm saying, man, 16 and 19, and saying you have a bad wheel, I don't know." [READ]

Ray Allen said he'll do everything he can to help the Sonics retain forward Rashard Lewis, who plans to opt out of the final two years of his contract and become an unrestricted free agent.

Two years ago, Allen was in a similar position. Like Lewis, he was one of the top free agents on the market, seeking a maximum-level contract.

"I knew what I had here as a team and that's something that I hope Rashard realizes," said Allen. "He's getting older and the older you get, the more costlier it is for you in terms of your career if you make a mistake.

"Teams are going to throw money at him. The important thing is not let your ego get caught up in that. I fully support guys getting the best deal that they can get, but there's no price on peace of mind. Piston bad boy Rasheed Wallace has a special interest in Magic center Dwight Howard, with whom he has chatted before and during games.

"I've been doing that with a few young guys that I like. Dwight is one of them. Earlier in the season, I told him we'd been watching him on film, and he really needed to learn how to pass out of double teams. He needed to work on some kind of jumper," Wallace said Friday after the Detroit Pistons practice. "I'm not saying do it now, but maybe over the summer."

Wallace said he has talked to Howard several times about diversifying his game and developing a stronger rapport with his point guard.

"I look at that team and I think Dwight and Jameer [Nelson] will be here longer than anyone, that's in my opinion. They should get that pick-and-roll down, like a [John] Stockton-and-[Karl] Malone thing, where they are really a threat with it. I told him, 'It could make you a force.'" [READ]

House Favors Giving Magic $60M

플로리다 주 의회는 올랜도 매직 구단의 2번째 6천만불 세금 환불을 금요일날 초기 승인했습니다. 그 세금 환불은 매직의 새 다운타운 경기장을 위한 보조금으로 사용될 수 있을거라고 합니다.  현재 상원은 팀 보조금에 대해서 조치를 취하지 않고 있습니다. 금요일날 입회가 종료된다고 합니다. 시간이 없네요. 이 세금 환불은 새 4억8천만불 이벤트 센터 건설 계획에 포함될것이라고 합니다.

The Florida House gave preliminary approval Friday to a second $60 million sales-tax rebate for the Orlando Magic that could provide backup funds for a new downtown arena.

But so far the Senate has refused to play ball on the idea of team subsidies, and the clock is running out on a legislative session that's scheduled to end Friday.

The House plan authorizes a $2 million-a-year rebate over 30 years for a new Magic arena and a renovated arena for the Tampa Bay Lightning hockey team. The House is likely to grant final approval Monday.

If enacted, this would be the second $60 million rebate for the Magic. The team has yet to tap into the first pool of cash, but Orlando and Orange County officials have included that money in the plan for a new $480 million downtown events center. [READ]

Bob Hill is no longer the Sonics' coach, but he won't be forgotten any time soon. At least not by Ray Allen.

"Bob was the best coach that I've had in my career," the All-Star Sonics guard said. "He and I were able to discuss things on and off the floor. Through 82 games, our relationship was great under some tough circumstances.

"He would have been great for me for the rest of my career. I understand the organization has to do what's best for them and I stand by the organization, because it's not about me and what I want or did not want. But I'm not happy that Bob is gone. Not at all."

Since his rookie year in 1996, Allen has had five head coaches (Chris Ford, George Karl, Nate McMillan, Bob Weiss and Hill). He said Hill had the most positive influence on his career. [READ]

Sacramento Kings forward Ron Artest won't face animal cruelty charges for allegedly failing to feed his dog, the Placer County district attorney's office said Friday.

Deputy District Attorney Jeff Wilson said there was insufficient evidence to charge either Artest or his wife, Kimsha, with animal cruelty or neglect.
