The automotive journal Motor Trend has conducted their first ever “Best Drivers Car Competition” and we have the video to show it to you. When the crack staff at the California based car magazine talk about looking for the best driver’s car, they are not talking about quantitative statistics that can be measured, such as horsepower and 0 to 60 MPH times, but about how an automobile handles itself over hundreds of miles of twisty canyon roads as well as on a world class racetrack. As far as the editors at Motor Trend are concerned, this test is all about being able to go fast and have fun doing it.
So they assembled 10 of the world’s top sports cars from around the world including the: Audi R8, BMW 135, Cadillac CTS-V, Chevrolet Camaro SS, Chevrolet Corvette ZR-1, Ford Shelby GT500, Jaguar XFR, Mazda Miata, Nismo 370Z and the Porsche Cayman S. The Motor Trend staff drove these cars all over the state of California and then handed the keys over to professional racing driver Randy Pobst for his own unique brand of commentary after ringing out all ten of these high performance machines around the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.
After some controversial words from Mr. Pobst in which he proclaimed the Cayman S to be better than any 911 that came before, apart from the purest of the pure GT3 RS models, the team of automotive journalists awarded the 320 HP mid engine 3.4 Liter flat six Porsche with its wonderful PDK cog swapper as the best all around driver’s car for 2009.
