NOT INTERESTED IN RELIGION 종교에 관심 없는  John 5:18,37-47   How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing!                          —Matthew 23:37 라디오에서 흘러나오는 교회 광고 하나가 나의 주의를 끌었습니다. “여러분은 기독교에 관해 들었던 것들 때문에 종교에 대해 별로 관심이 없을지도 모르겠습니다.  A radio ad for a church caught my attention: “Because you’ve heard about Christianity, you might not be interested in religion.  그러나 예수님도 종교에 대해 관심이 없었다는 것을 아신다면 여러분도 아마 놀라실 것입니다. 예수님은 오히려 인간관계를 아주 중요하게 생각하셔서, 우리에게 서로 사랑하라고 가르치셨습니다.”  Well, it might surprise you─Jesus wasn’t interested in religion either. But He was big on relationship and teaching us to love one another.” 그 광고는 이렇게 계속되었습니다. “저희 교회에 관한 것을 다 좋아하지 않을지 모르지만, 여러분에게 진정한 인간관계를 맺어드리고 싶습니다. 저희는 지금 하나님을 사랑하고, 또 서로를 사랑하는 것을 배우고 있습니다. 여러분의 방문을 환영합니다.” It continued, “You may not like everything about our church, but we offer authentic relationship, and we’re learning to love God and each other. You’re welcome to visit.” 야고보서 1장 27절에서 “진정한 종교”는 다른 사람들을 돕는 행위라고 분명히 말하고 있는 걸로 봐서, 이 교회는 예수님과 종교에 관해 좀 과장되게 말한 것 같습니다.  This church may have overstated things about Jesus and religion because Scripture does speak of “true religion” in James 1:27 as helpful deeds toward others.  그러나 예수님은 사실 그 당시의 종교적인 사람들과 가깝게 지내지 못했습니다.  But Jesus did have difficulties with religious people of His day.  예수님은 하나님을 향한 사랑보다 전통과 율법에 따라 사는 바리새인들에게 “겉으로는 사람에게 옳게 보이되 안으로는 외식과 불법이 가득하도다”(마 23:28)라고 말씀하셨습니다.  He said the Pharisees, guided by tradition and rules not by love for the Lord, “outwardly appear righteous to men, but inside [they] are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness”(Matt. 23:28).  그들의 마음속에는 하나님을 향한 사랑이 없었습니다(요 5:42). 예수님은 그들과 관계 맺기를 원하셨으나, 그들은 예수님께 오기를 원하지 않았습니다(40절). They didn’t have the love of God in their hearts (John 5:42).Jesus wanted relationship with them, but they were “not willing to come to [Him]” (v.40). “종교적”이라는 말이 구주와의 관계를 누리는 것이 아닌, 단지 우리가 훌륭하게 보일 수 있는 일련의 율법들을 따르는 것을 의미한다면, 예수님은 실제로 그런 것에는 관심이 없으십니다.  If being “religious” means following a set of rules so we can look good─instead of enjoying a relationship with the Savior─Jesus isn’t interested.  예수님은 주님과 친밀한 관계를 갖기를 원하는 모든 사람들에게 사랑과 용서를 제공해주십니다. He offers forgiveness and love to all who want an intimate relationship with Him. —Anne Cetas
