Bible Reading - Proverbs 21:11~20

21:11 When a mocker is punished, the simple gain wisdom;

조롱하는 자가 벌을 받으면, 어리석은 자는 지혜를 얻고,

 when a wise man is instructed, he gets knowledge.

지혜로운 사람이 가르침을 받으면 지식을 얻는다.

21:12 The Righteous One takes note of the house of the wicked and brings the wicked to ruin.

의로운 분은 악한 자의 집을 살피시고 악한 자에게 멸망을 가져오신다.

 takes note of ~ 에 주목하다.

21:13 If a man shuts his ears to the cry of the poor,

만일 어떤 사람이 가난한 자의 부르짖음에 귀를 닫는다면

he too will cry out and not be answered. 그도 역시 부르짖을 것이나 응답을 얻지 못할 것이다. 

21:14 A gift given in secret soothes(달래다,진정시키다) anger, 은밀히 주는 선물은 분노를 달래고,

and a bribe concealed in the cloak pacifies(진정시키다) great wrath.

 망토에 숨긴 뇌물은 커다란 분노를 가라앉힌다.

21:15 When justice is done, it brings joy to the righteous but terror to evildoers(악한 자들).

정의가 실현되면 의로운 자에게는 기쁨이 되지만 악한 자에게는 공포가 된다.

21:16 A man who strays from the path of understanding comes to rest in the company of the dead.

명철의 길에서 벗어난 사람은 죽은 자들의 품에서 안식하게 된다.

21:17 He who loves pleasure will become poor; 쾌락을 좋아하는 자는 가난하게 될 것이며

whoever loves wine and oil will never be rich. 포도주와 기름을 좋아하는 자는 부자가 되지 못할 것이다.

21:18 The wicked become a ransom(대속물) for the righteous, 악인은 의인을 위한 대속물이 되고

and the unfaithful for the upright. 불의한 자는 정직한 자를 위한 대속물이 된다. 

21:19 Better to live in a desert than

with a quarrelsome(다투기 좋아하는) and ill-tempered(성미가 까다로운) wife.

다투기 좋아하고 성미가 까다로운 아내와 함께 하는 것보다 사막에서 사는 것이 낫다.

21:20 In the house of the wise are stores of choice food and oil,

지혜로운 자의 집에는 좋은 음식과 기름이 저장되어 있으나

but a foolish man devours(삼키다. 게걸스럽게 먹어치우다) all he has.

어리석은 사람은 그가 가진 모든 것을 다 먹어 치운다.
