1. {주}께서 모세에게 말씀하여 이르시되,

And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

2. 미디안 족속에게 이스라엘 자손의 원수를 갚으라. 그 뒤에 네가 네 백성에게로 거두어지리라, 하시니

Avenge the children of Israel of the Midianites: afterward shalt thou be gathered unto thy people.

3. 모세가 백성에게 말하여 이르기를, 너희 가운데서 얼마를 무장시켜 싸움에 보내고 그들이 가서 미디안 족속을 치고

     미디안에게 {주}의 원수를 갚게 하라.

And Moses spake unto the people, saying, Arm some of yourselves unto the war, and let them go against the Midianites, and avenge the LORD of Midian.

4. 너희는 두루 이스라엘의 모든 지파에서 각 지파에서 천 명씩을 뽑아 싸움에 보낼지니라, 하매

Of every tribe a thousand, throughout all the tribes of Israel, shall ye send to the war. 

5. 이에 이스라엘의 수천 중에서 각 지파에서 천 명씩 넘겨주니 만 이천 명이 싸움을 위해 무장하니라.

So there were delivered out of the thousands of Israel, a thousand of [every] tribe, twelve thousand armed for war.

6. 모세가 각 지파에서 천 명씩을 뽑아 싸움에 보내되 그들과 함께 제사장 엘르아살의 아들 비느하스를 보내며 그의

    손에 거룩한 기구와 부는 나팔들을 주매

And Moses sent them to the war, a thousand of [every] tribe, them and Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest, to the war, with the holy instruments, and the trumpets to blow in his hand.

7. 그들이 {주}께서 모세에게 명령하신 대로 미디안 족속과 싸움을 벌여 모든 남자를 죽이고

And they warred against the Midianites, as the LORD commanded Moses; and they slew all the males.

8. 그 죽은 자들 중에서 남은 자들 외에 미디안의 왕들을 죽였으니 곧 에비와 레겜과 수르와 훌과 레바 즉 미디안의

     다섯 왕이며 또 브올의 아들 발람도 칼로 죽였더라.

And they slew the kings of Midian, beside the rest of them that were slain; [namely], Evi, and Rekem, and Zur, and Hur, and Reba, five kings of Midian: Balaam also the son of Beor they slew with the sword.

9. 이스라엘 자손이 미디안의 여인들과 그들의 어린것들을 다 포로로 사로잡고 그들의 가축과 양 떼와 재물을 다

    노략하며

And the children of Israel took [all] the women of Midian captives, and their little ones, and took the spoil of all their cattle, and all their flocks, and all their goods.

10. 그들이 거하던 도시와 좋은 성채를 다 불로 태우고

And they burnt all their cities wherein they dwelt, and all their goodly castles, with fire.

11. 사람과 짐승 중에서 노략한 것과 탈취한 것을 다 빼앗으니라.

And they took all the spoil, and all the prey, [both] of men and of beasts.

12. 그들이 포로와 탈취한 것과 노략한 것을 이끌고 여리고에 가까운 요르단 옆 모압 평야의 진영에 이르러 모세와

      제사장 엘르아살과 이스라엘 자손의 회중에게로 나아오니라.

And they brought the captives, and the prey, and the spoil, unto Moses, and Eleazar the priest, and unto the congregation of the children of Israel, unto the camp at the plains of Moab, which [are] by Jordan [near] Jericho.

13. 모세와 제사장 엘르아살과 회중의 모든 통치자들이 진영 밖에 나가서 그들을 맞이하더니

And Moses, and Eleazar the priest, and all the princes of the congregation, went forth to meet them without the camp.

14. 모세가 군대의 관리들 곧 싸움에서 돌아온 천인 대장들과 백인 대장들에게 노하니라.

And Moses was wroth with the officers of the host, [with] the captains over thousands, and captains over hundreds, which came from the battle. 

15. 모세가 그들에게 이르되, 너희가 여인들을 다 살려 두었느냐?

And Moses said unto them, Have ye saved all the women alive?

16. 보라, 이들이 발람의 조언을 따라 이스라엘 자손으로 하여금 브올의 사건에서 {주}를 대적하고 범법하게 하여

      {주}의 회중 가운데 재앙이 있었느니라.

Behold, these caused the children of Israel, through the counsel of Balaam, to commit trespass against the LORD in the matter of Peor, and there was a plague among the congregation of the LORD.

17. 그러므로 이제 어린것들 중에서 남자는 다 죽이고 남자와 함께 누워 남자를 안 여자는 다 죽이되

Now therefore kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman that hath known man by lying with him. 

18. 남자와 함께 눕지 아니하여 남자를 알지 못하는 여자아이들은 다 너희를 위하여 살려 둘지니라.

But all the women children, that have not known a man by lying with him, keep alive for yourselves.

19. 너희는 이레 동안 진영 밖에 거하라. 누구든지 사람을 죽인 자나 죽임 당한 시체를 만진 자는 셋째 날과 일곱째

      날에 자신을 깨끗하게 하고 또한 너희 포로들도 깨끗하게 할 것이며

And do ye abide without the camp seven days: whosoever hath killed any person, and whosoever hath touched any slain, purify [both] yourselves and your captives on the third day, and on the seventh day.

20. 너희 의복과 가죽으로 만든 것과 염소 털로 만든 것과 나무로 만든 것을 다 깨끗하게 할지니라.

And purify all [your] raiment, and all that is made of skins, and all work of goats [hair], and all things made of wood. 

21. 제사장 엘르아살이 싸움에 나갔던 군사들에게 이르되, {주}께서 모세에게 명령하신 법의 규례가 이러하니라.

And Eleazar the priest said unto the men of war which went to the battle, This [is] the ordinance of the law which the LORD commanded Moses;

22. 오직 금, 은, 놋, 쇠, 주석, 납 등

Only the gold, and the silver, the brass, the iron, the tin, and the lead,

23. 불에 견딜 만한 것은 다 불을 통과하게 하라. 그리하면 그것이 정결하게 되리라. 그럼에도 불구하고 거룩히

      구별하는 물로 그것을 깨끗하게 하며 불에 견디지 못할 것은 다 그 물을 통과하게 할지니라.

Every thing that may abide the fire, ye shall make [it] go through the fire, and it shall be clean: nevertheless it shall be purified with the water of separation: and all that abideth not the fire ye shall make go through the water.

24. 너희는 일곱째 날에 너희 옷을 빨고 정결하게 된 뒤에 진영에 들어올지니라.

And ye shall wash your clothes on the seventh day, and ye shall be clean, and afterward ye shall come into the camp.

25. {주}께서 모세에게 말씀하여 이르시되,

And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

26. 너와 제사장 엘르아살과 회중의 우두머리 아버지들은 빼앗아 탈취한 것 즉 사람과 짐승의 총수를 조사하고

Take the sum of the prey that was taken, [both] of man and of beast, thou, and Eleazar the priest, and the chief fathers of the congregation: 

27. 그 탈취한 것을 둘로 나누어 전쟁에 나가 싸움을 했던 자들에게 주고 또 온 회중에게 주며

And divide the prey into two parts; between them that took the war upon them, who went out to battle, and between all the congregation:

28. 싸움에 나갔던 군사들로부터 사람이나 소나 나귀나 양 떼의 오백 혼 중 한 혼을 취하여 {주}께 공물로 드리라.

And levy a tribute unto the LORD of the men of war which went out to battle: one soul of five hundred, [both] of the persons, and of the beeves, and of the asses, and of the sheep:

29. 또 그들이 얻은 절반에서 그것을 취하여 {주}의 거제 헌물로 제사장 엘르아살에게 주라.

Take [it] of their half, and give it unto Eleazar the priest, [for] an heave offering of the LORD.

30. 또 너는 이스라엘 자손이 얻은 절반에서 사람이나 소나 나귀나 양 떼나 온갖 짐승의 오십 분의 일 몫을 취하여

      {주}의 성막의 책무를 맡은 레위 사람들에게 줄지니라.

And of the children of Israels half, thou shalt take one portion of fifty, of the persons, of the beeves, of the asses, and of the flocks, of all manner of beasts, and give them unto the Levites, which keep the charge of the tabernacle of the LORD. 

31. 모세와 제사장 엘르아살이 {주}께서 모세에게 명령하신 대로 행하니라.

And Moses and Eleazar the priest did as the LORD commanded Moses.

32. 그 전리품 곧 군사들이 취한 탈취물 중 남은 것은 양이 육십칠만 오천 마리요,

And the booty, [being] the rest of the prey which the men of war had caught, was six hundred thousand and seventy thousand and five thousand sheep,

33. 소가 칠만 이천 마리요,

And threescore and twelve thousand beeves,

34. 나귀가 육만 천 마리요,

And threescore and one thousand asses,

35. 또 남자와 함께 눕지 아니하여 남자를 알지 못하는 여자가 모두 삼만 이천 명이더라.

And thirty and two thousand persons in all, of women that had not known man by lying with him.

36. 그 절반 곧 싸움에 나갔던 자들의 몫은 수로 세어 양이 삼십삼만 칠천오백 마리며

And the half, [which was] the portion of them that went out to war, was in number three hundred thousand and seven and thirty thousand and five hundred sheep:

37. {주}께 공물로 드린 양이 육백일흔다섯 마리더라.

And the LORDS tribute of the sheep was six hundred and threescore and fifteen.

38. 소는 삼만 육천 마리인데 그 중에서 {주}께 공물로 드린 것은 일흔두 마리며

And the beeves [were] thirty and six thousand; of which the LORDS tribute [was] threescore and twelve.

39. 나귀는 삼만 오백 마리인데 그 중에서 {주}께 공물로 드린 것은 예순한 마리며

And the asses [were] thirty thousand and five hundred; of which the LORDS tribute [was] threescore and one.

40. 사람은 만 육천 명인데 그 중에서 {주}께 공물로 드린 자는 서른두 명이더라.

And the persons [were] sixteen thousand; of which the LORDS tribute [was] thirty and two persons.

41. 모세가 공물 곧 {주}의 거제 헌물을 제사장 엘르아살에게 주었으니 {주}께서 모세에게 명령하신 것과 같았더라.

And Moses gave the tribute, [which was] the LORDS heave offering, unto Eleazar the priest, as the LORD commanded Moses.

42. 모세가 싸움에 나갔던 자들에게서 취해 이스라엘 자손에게 나누어 준 절반

And of the children of Israels half, which Moses divided from the men that warred,

43. (곧 이제 회중에게 속한 절반은 양이 삼십삼만 칠천오백 마리요,

[that pertained unto] the congregation was three hundred thousand and thirty thousand [and] seven thousand and five hundred sheep,

44. 소가 삼만 육천 마리요,

And thirty and six thousand beeves,

45. 나귀가 삼만 오백 마리요,

And thirty thousand asses and five hundred,

46. 사람이 만 육천 명이더라.)

And sixteen thousand persons;

47. 이스라엘 자손이 얻은 그 절반에서 모세가 사람이나 짐승의 오십 분의 일 몫을 취하여 {주}의 성막의 책무를 맡은

      레위 사람들에게 주었으니 {주}께서 모세에게 명령하신 것과 같았더라.

Even of the children of Israels half, Moses took one portion of fifty, [both] of man and of beast, and gave them unto the Levites, which kept the charge of the tabernacle of the LORD; as the LORD commanded Moses.

48. 군대의 수천을 다스리는 관리들 곧 천인 대장들과 백인 대장들이 모세에게 나아와

And the officers which [were] over thousands of the host, the captains of thousands, and captains of hundreds, came near unto Moses:

49. 그에게 이르되, 당신의 종들이 우리의 책무를 맡은 군사들의 총수를 조사한즉 우리 가운데 한 사람도 모자라지

       아니하니

And they said unto Moses, Thy servants have taken the sum of the men of war which [are] under our charge, and there lacketh not one man of us. 

50. 그러므로 우리 각 사람이 얻은 금 패물 곧 사슬과 팔찌와 반지와 귀고리와 납작한 보석들을 {주}께 드리는 봉헌물로

      우리의 혼을 위해 {주} 앞에서 속죄하려고 가져왔나이다, 하매

We have therefore brought an oblation for the LORD, what every man hath gotten, of jewels of gold, chains, and bracelets, rings, earrings, and tablets, to make an atonement for our souls before the LORD. 

51. 모세와 제사장 엘르아살이 그들에게서 금으로 만든 패물을 다 취한즉

And Moses and Eleazar the priest took the gold of them, [even] all wrought jewels.

52. 천인 대장들과 백인 대장들이 {주}께 드린 헌물의 금이 모두 만 육천칠백오십 세겔이더라.

And all the gold of the offering that they offered up to the LORD, of the captains of thousands, and of the captains of hundreds, was sixteen thousand seven hundred and fifty shekels. 

53. (군사들이 각각 자기를 위하여 노략하였더라.)

of war had taken spoil, every man for himself.

54. 모세와 제사장 엘르아살이 천인 대장들과 백인 대장들에게서 금을 취하여 회중의 성막으로 가져와 {주} 앞에서

      이스라엘 자손을 위한 기념물로 삼았더라.

And Moses and Eleazar the priest took the gold of the captains of thousands and of hundreds, and brought it into the tabernacle of the congregation, [for] a memorial for the children of Israel before the LORD.
