When will my life begin

내 인생은 언제 시작될까?

7 a.m. the usual morning line-up

아침 7시, 보통 아침에 하는 일

Starting the chores I sweep 'til the floors all clean

집안일을 시작하지, 바닥이 깨끗해질 때까지 쓸어

Polish and wax, do laundry and mop and shine up

문지르고 왁스질하고, 빨래하고 닦고 광을 내지

Sweep again, and by then it's like 7:15

다시 쓸어, 7시 15분까지

So I'll read a book, or maybe two or three

그리고 책을 한 권 아니면 두 권이나 세 권을 읽을 거야

add a few new paintings to my gallery

내 갤러리에 몇 개의 그림을 더 추가하고

I'll play guitar, and knit, and cook and basically

기타를 연주할거야, 그리고 뜨개질을 하고 보통 요리도 하지

Just wonder when will my life, begin

내 인생이 언제 시작될 지 궁금해

Then after lunch, it's puzzles, and darts and baking

점심 먹은 다음엔, 퍼즐을 하지 그리고 다트를 하고 빵을 구워

Papier-mache, a bit of ballet, and chess

종이반죽이랑 발레도 좀 하고 체스도 해

** papier-mache [페이펄-멀쉐이] 혼응지(混凝紙)(송진과 기름을 먹인 딱딱한 종이; 종이 세공용)

Pottery, and ventriloquy, candle making

도자기도 만들고 복화술도 하고 초도 만들어

** ventriloquism 혹은 ventriloquy 복화술(腹話術) 腹 배 복.

입을 움직이지 아니하는 것처럼 하여 말하는 기술. 특히, 인형을 가지고 연극을 하면서 그 인형이 말하는 것처럼 느끼게 하는 기술.

Then I'll stretch, maybe sketch

다음엔 스트레칭을 할거고 아니면, 그림을 그려

Take a climb, sew a dress, and I'll re-read the books

줄잡고 오르기, 드레스 바느질하고 그리고 다시 책을 읽지

If I have time to spare,

만약 시간을 낼 수 있다면

I'll paint the wall some more, I'm sure there's room somewhere

벽에 더 많은 그림을 그릴 거야, 거기 어딘가 방이 있는 게 틀림없어

And then I'll brush, and brush, and brush, and brush my hair

그리고 머리를 빗고, 빗고, 빗고, 또 빗지

Stuck in the same place I've always been

같은 장소에 박혀서, 난 항상 이래

And I'll keep wondering, and wondering, and wondering…

Tomorrow night, the lights will appear

Just like they do on my birthday, each year

What is it like, out there where they glow?

저 빛들이 빛나고 있는 바깥세상은 어떤 곳일까?

** glow 빨갛게 타다, 붉어지다. The maple leaves glowed red in the sun. 단풍잎이 햇빛을 받아 붉게 타는 듯했다.

Now that I'm older, Mother might just let me go

내가 좀 더 나이가 들면, 엄마가 밖에 내보내 주실 거야
