영적 예배[롬 12 : 1~8 ] A living and holy sacrifice.

몸을 거룩한 산 제사로 드리는 것은 구약의 희생제사를 떠올리게 합니다. 예수님 역시 희생의 어린 양으로서 자신의 생명을 드리셨습니다. 성도들을 향한 바울의 도전은 본인이 실천한 내용을 독자들 역시 행하라고 촉구하는 선한 권고입니다. 그렇다면 몸을 드리는 제사가 어떻게 영적 예배로 승화되는가 하는 문제입니다.

희생제사의 특징은 불살라 올려드리는 것입니다. 곧 존재의 소멸과 관계가 있습니다. 그리고 그 소멸은 하나님을 기쁘시게 하는 향기로 하늘에 상달됩니다. 성도의 죽는 것을 귀중하게 보신다는 시편 말씀은 자기 부인과 연관이 있습니다.(시116:15) 바울은 자신의 몸을 쳐 복종시킨다고 하였고 나는 날마다 죽노라고 고백했습니다. 그는 정과 욕심을 십자가에 못박았다고 합니다. 그러므로 자신을 죽이고 내 안에 그리스도께서 사시게 내어드리는 삶의 제사는 아름답고 거룩한 희생입니다.

그렇다면 자기 부인(sekf-denying)은 어떻게 가능할까요? 마음을 새롭게 함이라고 합니다.(2절) 이 세상의 것을 거절하고 변화를 받은 마음 곧 하늘의 것을 사모하는 마음은 하나님의 뜻을 분별하는 힘을 얻습니다. 먼저 마음이 정해지고 하나님앞에 바로 선 후에 분별이 가능하다는 것입니다. 마음을 정하여 하늘의 것을 선택하기로 결단하고 하나님을 향하는 오롯한 마음에서 분별의 기준이 명확해 진다는 것입니다.

하늘의 비밀을 순식간에 깨닫는 일은 일어나지 않습니다. 미지의 세계를 탐험하듯이 한 걸음씩 나아가는 지속성이 필요합니다. 끈기와 포기하지 않는 열정은 그를 원하는 목표지점에 도달하게 합니다. 다행히 소원의 항구에 닿기까지 순풍으로 도우시는 성령님의 은혜가 우리와 함께 계십니다.

바울은 믿음의 분량에 대해 말하면서 교회의 지체됨을 설명합니다. 각각 다른 기능을 가지고 있으나 한 성령안에서 하나로 지어져가는 교회 공동체의 역할과 한계를 제시합니다. 서로 다른 형태의 모습을 가졌으나 조화와 용납으로 그리스도의 몸을 완성해 가도록 교회를 격려합니다.

교회안에 역사하시는 성령님의 은혜를 힘입어 각자 맡은 역할에 충실하며 서로의 다름을 인정하고 화합하는 지체가 되시길 주님의 이름으로 축원합니다.

Offering our bodies as a living sacrifice evokes the image of Old Testament sacrificial worship. Jesus Himself, as the sacrificial Lamb, gave His life. Paul's exhortation to believers is a noble encouragement—he urges his readers to follow the path he himself walked. This raises the question: how does the offering of our bodies become a spiritual act of worship?

The hallmark of sacrificial worship is the burning of the offering, signifying the annihilation of existence. This annihilation ascends to heaven as a fragrant aroma pleasing to God. The Psalmist declares that the death of His saints is precious in His sight (Psalm 116:15), which is closely tied to the concept of self-denial. Paul said he disciplines his body and makes it his slave, and he confessed, “I die daily.” He crucified his passions and desires. Thus, the life of sacrifice—dying to self so that Christ may live within—is a beautiful and holy offering.

But how is self-denial possible? Scripture answers: by the renewing of the mind (Romans 12:2). Rejecting the patterns of this world and embracing a transformed mind—a mind that longs for heavenly things—grants the ability to discern God’s will. Discernment comes only after the heart is set and aligned before God. When the heart is resolved to choose what is above and wholly directed toward God, the standard for discernment becomes clear.

The mysteries of heaven are not grasped in an instant. Like exploring an unknown realm, we must take one step at a time with persistence. Perseverance and unwavering passion lead us to the desired destination. Thankfully, the Holy Spirit’s grace accompanies us like a favorable wind until we reach the harbor of our soul’s longing.

Paul speaks of the measure of faith and explains the nature of being members of one body. Though each member has a different function, the church is built into one body through the same Spirit. With diverse forms and functions, the church is encouraged to pursue harmony and acceptance, completing the body of Christ.
