Silent Killer: Germany Showcases 4-Barrel Laser Gatling Gun
15:11 24.09.2015

During this week’s defense and security expo in London German defense contractor Rheinmetall Defense Electronics unveiled a new sea-based anti-drone laser system.
The system, unveiled at the Defense and Security Equipment Industry Expo in London, features four high energy lasers mounted on turret, making it look like some kind of laser Gatling gun, Popular Mechanics reported.
The four 20 kilowatt lasers fire simultaneously, in a technique known as superimposition which combines them into a single powerful 80 kilowatt beam.
According to the company, using superimposition there's not limit to the amount of energy that can be focused on a target — just add more lasers.
The Gatling laser can reportedly shoot down a drone at 500 meters. Lasers can also detonate ammunition, explode artillery shells, blind the sensors of another ship, and even burn holes in smaller ships.
The real range of the system is also likely much longer: in tests Rheinmetall's 30 kilowatt laser blew up an 82-millimeter mortar in midair at 1,000 meters. The result will be ships protected from a variety of threats — at the speed of light.
Russia is developing a military airborne laser system based on the IL-76 transport plane and designed to counter enemy intelligence means in various environments. The design in principle is not new, as it was started in 1980.
The complex is designed to transmit laser energy to remote objects in order to counter the infrared optoelectronic means of the enemy.
The laser is able to paralyze the work of intelligence facilities based in space, in the air and on the ground.

Lockheed Laser Gun Destroys Truck From a Mile Away
21:45 06.03.2015(updated 03:42 07.03.2015)

Military contractor Lockheed Martin unveiled a new laser that is so powerful it can disable a vehicle parked more than a mile away.
It’s a system that is probably the most powerful the company has ever rolled out, and Lockheed tested it by firing it from a mile away and aiming at the engine of a small truck. The laser delivered, hitting the truck and creating a hole on the hood that burned right thru the engine and disabled it.
Known as ATENA, or Advanced Test High Energy Asset laser system, it demonstrates “rapidly evolving precision,” says Lockheed.
“The laser weapon system successfully disable the engine of a small truck during a recent field test, demonstrating the rapidly evolving precision capability to protect military forces and critical infrastructures,” Lockheed Martin said in a statement.
“This test represents the next step to providing lightweight and rugged laser weapon systems for military aircraft, helicopters, ships, and trucks.”
This particular system is unique, says Lockheed, because it combines different lasers into one beam that is more efficient and more powerful than single lasers. The company calls the technique of putting together more than one laser, “spectral beam combining.”
Lockheed Martin is the US Defense Department’s top contractor, receiving $10 million in contracts last year alone, according to the magazine Defense Systems.

비행기에 실어 50km( 처음엔 200km) 거리에서 미사일을 요격한다는
ABL(비행기 탑재 레이저무기)는 쇼가 끝나자 모두 해체되어 6개 모듈을
