On October 15, 2022, Shine City Project travelled to Moapa! A one-hour drive north from Las Vegas, our Shine City Project volunteers made our way to Moapa for the Warm Springs Natural Area Green-Up! Joining volunteers from other organizations, groups, families, and individuals, our Shine City Project team helped to revegetate an area of the Warm Springs Natural Area with plants that are native to the Mojave Desert. We had twelve volunteers representing Shine City Project with one joining us for the first time! Two hours after the start of the planting event, a couple thousand plants were planted by close to 200 volunteers! As an appreciation for all of our hard work, all volunteers were treated to some delicious tacos!
On October 22, 2022, Shine City Project was joined by UNLV organization, Phi Delta Theta, for a service project at Monaco Middle School! Our two groups helped to distribute food for individuals and families as part of The Just One Project's Pop Up & Give! Though there were also items such as chicken, beans, mac and cheese, and tortillas being passed out by other volunteers, a handful of our own members were responsible for handing out bags of peaches. Other volunteers helped to open and close the trunks of cars and another volunteer helped to check in those who were traversing by foot. With our two groups combined, we had twelve volunteers who came to help out!
On October 29, 2022, Shine City Project cleaned up at the corner of Las Vegas Boulevard and Windmill Lane! Our team of seven volunteers helped to pick up an assortment of items that mostly came from places that were nearby such as 7-Eleven, CVS Pharmacy, and Starbucks. Some of the more common items were plastic water bottles, fountain cups, alcohol bottles, and Starbucks splash sticks. We also found some unusual items such as a car seat controller and an application document for domestic violence. One of our volunteers even found a one-dollar bill! At the end of the service project, our volunteers filled up seven bags of trash!
