제1장 통일교회 창립 의의와 배경

1. 신의 뜻에 의해 창립된 통일교회

이제 본인이 오신 손님들 앞에 한 가지 말씀드리고 싶은 것은 어떻게 해서 본 협회를 창설하게 됐느냐 하는 것입니다. 이 문제를 중심삼고 간략하게 말씀드리도록 하겠습니다. 내가 이 협회를 창설하게 된 동기는 인의, 즉 사람에 의한 뜻보다도 신의, 즉 신에 의한 뜻이 있어서 출발하였다고 보고 있습니다.

오늘의 이 사회나 역사는 인의만으로 구성되어 나가지 않는다는 것을 여러분이 잘 알 것입니다. 여기에는 반드시 신의를 중심삼은 그 어떠한 크나큰 뜻을 중심삼고 하나의 목적을 지향해 나오고 있는 것입니다. 그런 의미에서 사람의 뜻만으로 협회가 창설되어서는 역사의 흐름이나 앞으로 새로운 세계 앞에 공헌할 수 없다는 것을 생각하고, 신의에 입각해 새로운 종교를 창설했던 것입니다. 인의와 신의가 합할 수 있는 하나의 조직체가 종교라고 생각했고, 종교란 반드시 신의를 중심삼고 인류 전체가 바라는 인의적인 모든 것을 결속하지 않으면 안 된다고 보았던 것입니다.

그러면 신의란 무엇입니까? 신의 뜻이라는 것은 어떠한 특정한 사회를 중심삼은 것이 아니라 초민족적이요 초종파적이요 초국가적인 성격을 띤 것입니다. 그러한 목적을 중심삼지 않고는 신이 바라는 뜻을 완결시킬 수 없다는 것을 우리는 역사를 미루어 보아 알 수 있는 것입니다. 그런 의미에서 인의도 역시 어떤 개인적인 뜻이나 어떤 단체적인 뜻을 중심삼은 것이 아니라 신의 뜻과 일치될 수 있는 세계적인 내용을 갖춘 것이 되어야 합니다. 이것을 안팎으로 통합하는 데에 종교의 사명이 있다고 보았던 것입니다.

그러면 신의와 인의를 일치시키기 위해서는 무엇이 있어야 되겠습니까? 신의 사랑과 인간의 사랑이 합할 수 있는 내용이 있어야 됩니다. 신이 인간과 하나될 수 있는 사랑이라는 것은 어떠한 특정한 개인이나 특정한 민족, 특정한 국가를 중심한 것이 아니라, 초국가적인 입장에서 인류와 세계를 사랑하는 심정적인 유대를 갖추어야 된다는 것입니다. 그러니 신의와 인의의 일치점을 가려 나가야 할 종교는 인의를 중심삼을 것이 아니라 신의를 기반으로 하여 인간의 뜻을 하나님을 중심한 사랑에 어떻게 결속시키느냐 하는 것이 문제가 되지 않을 수 없습니다.

그런 의미에서 하나님의 뜻과 인간의 뜻은 종교라는 형태를 갖추어 결속시켜야 하는데, 그 중심은 반드시 사랑이어야 된다는 것입니다. 그 사랑은 어떤 특정한 민족이나 특정한 국가뿐만 아니라 세계를 넘어 모든 것을 초월한 사랑이어야 합니다. 그렇지 않고는 참다운 종교의 기반을 세계적으로 형성할 수 없다는 것입니다. 

그래서 지금까지의 역사는 성현들을 중심삼고 움직여 나온 것입니다. 그들은 인의적인 입장뿐만 아니라 천의를 개재시킨 입장에서 주장한 사람들입니다. 그들이 목적하는 바는 어떤 특정한 민족뿐만 아니라 세계적인 한계선을 넘어섰습니다. 그것을 가르쳐 주는 것이 성현들의 도리입니다. 그 도리를 중심삼고 천의와 인의가 일치될 수 있는 내용을 연결시켜 나온 것이 종교입니다. 그러기에 성현은 천륜을 기반으로 해서 인륜을 결속시키는 표준을 세워 나온 것입니다. 그런데 이는 어디까지나 세계적인 한계선을 넘을 수 있는 도리를 가르쳐 주는 도리라야 성현의 도리인 것입니다. 그러한 성현의 도리를 중심삼고 오늘날 인간이 도의적인 분야에서 인륜도덕을 세워 나온 것입니다.

第1章 統一教会の創立意義と背景


1. 神様のみ旨によって創立された統一教会

今、私が、御来賓の皆様に一つ申し上げたいことは、なぜ統一教会を創設することになったのかということです。この問題を中心として、簡潔に申し上げたいと思います。私がこの教会を創設するようになった動機は、人意、すなわち人による意志よりも、神意、すなわち神様のみ旨によって出発したということです。
 
今日のこの社会や歴史は、人意だけで形成されていないことは、皆様がよく御存じのことと思います。ここには必ず、神意を中心とした、ある大きな意志を中心として、一つの目的を指向しているのです。そのような意味で、人の意志だけで教会が創立されては、歴史の流れや今後の新しい世界に貢献できないと考え、神意に立脚して新しい宗教を創設したのです。人意と神意が合わさることができる一つの組織体が宗教であり、宗教は必ず神意を中心として、人類全体が願う人意的なすべてのものを結束しなければなりません。
 
それでは、神意とは何でしょうか。神様のみ旨というのは、ある特定の社会を中心としたものではなく、超民族的であり、超宗派的であり、超国家的な性格を帯びているものです。そのような目的を中心としなければ、神様が願うみ旨を完結できないことを、私たちは歴史を見ることによって知ることができます。そのような意味で、人意もやはり、ある個人の意志やある団体の意志を中心としたものではなく、神様のみ旨と一致できる世界的な内容を備えたものにならなければなりません。これを内外で統合することに宗教の使命があると思います。
 
それでは、神意と人意を一致させるためには何がなければなりませんか。神様の愛と人間の愛が合わさることができる内容がなければなりません。神様が人間と一つになれる愛は、ある特定の個人や特定の民族、特定の国家を中心としたものではなく、超国家的な立場で、人類と世界を愛する心情的な紐帯を備えなければならないのです。ですから、神意と人意の一致点を明確にしなければならない宗教は、人意を中心とするのではなく、神意を基盤として、神様を中心とした愛に人間の意志をどのように結束させるかということが問題とならざるを得ません。
 
そのような意味で、神様のみ旨と人間の意志は宗教という形態を備えて結束させなければなりませんが、その中心は必ず愛でなければならないのです。その愛は、ある特定の民族や特定の国家だけでなく、世界を越え、すべてのものを超越した愛でなければなりません。そうでなければ、真の宗教の基盤を世界的に形成できないというのです。
 
それで、今までの歴史は聖賢たちを中心として動いてきました。彼らは、人意的な立場だけでなく、天意を介在させた立場で主張した人々です。彼らが目的とするところは、ある特定の民族だけでなく、世界的な限界線を越えていました。それを教えてくれるのが、聖賢たちの道理です。その道理を中心として、天意と人意が一致できる内容を連結させてきたのが宗教です。それで、聖賢は、天倫を基盤として人倫を結束させる基準を立ててきたのです。ところが、これは、あくまでも世界的な限界線を越えることのできる道理であってこそ、聖賢の道理になるのです。そのような聖賢の道理を中心として、今日の人間は道義的な分野で人倫、道徳を立ててきたのです。

CHAPTER 1. The Background and Significance of the Founding of the Unification Church

1. The Unification Church was founded according to the Will of God

Now, what I would like to briefly tell our guests here is how the Holy Spirit Association was founded. I believe the force behind my founding the Holy Spirit Association came from the Will of God, or the Divine Will, more than merely from human will.

As you well know, human society today and in history does not advance based just on the will of people. On the contrary, society advances toward one goal that is based on a greater Will, which is centered on God. From that viewpoint, if the Holy Spirit Association were founded only by the will of human beings, I do not think it would contribute much to the world, to the future or to the flow of history. Accordingly, I founded this new religion based on the Will of God.

Religion, I believe, is the institution that is able to combine the Will of God and the will of humanity. Religion not only has to have God at its center, it has to embrace everything all people are longing for.

Then, what is the Will of God? The Will of God is not focused on any particular society; it goes beyond societies and nations. We cannot complete the Will that God desires unless we adopt such a viewpoint. We can understand this by looking at human history.

In this sense, the will of humanity also must not be focused on any individual’s will or single group’s will. To be one with the Will of God, it must be put into a greater context at the world level. I believe the mission of religion is to unite these two wills internally and externally.

Then what is needed in order to bring God and humankind into oneness? There must be something that is able to unite the love of God and the love of human beings. The love through which human beings can become one with God is not centered on a particular individual, a particular society or a particular nation. Rather, people have to achieve a bond of heart that loves humankind and the world, going beyond particular nations.

In this sense, the Will of God and the will of human beings must be bound together in the form of a religion, and the center of this religion must be love. This love must be a love that is not exclusively for any particular society or nation; rather it must be a love that goes beyond the world and beyond everything. Without this, a religion cannot be true and will lack the foundation to have a global presence.

This is why until now history has moved forward with saints at the center. These were people who took their stand in relationship with the Will of Heaven and not just the will of human beings. Their goal was to benefit not only a certain people, but the entire world, and even beyond the boundary of the world. It is the task of saints to teach this way of life.

With this duty at its core, religion can connect the Will of Heaven with the will of human beings. So the saints established the standard for binding the human way to the foundation of heavenly law. However, only teachings that transcend the boundaries of the world can be called the teachings of the saints. Based on these ways, human beings today have established the way of humility and morality.
