The Buddha is alive, sermon by Great Monk Jajae Manhyon(自在满显), Hyonjisa in South Korea.
Great Monk Jajae Manhyon was born in South Korea in 1937.
In 1960, he renounced secular life and became a Buddhist monk of the Jogye Order, the primary Buddhist sect inheriting the traditions of Korean Buddhism.
After having earnestly probed into the doubts of the head phrase for some ten years since his renouncement, he awakened to his original nature one day in 1970, breaking through the doubts of his Hwadu.
He subsequently realized that seeing one’s original nature was not the end of the practice and that he would be unable to progress any further by following his current form of practice, so he instead began to recite the sacred name of the Buddha.
While reciting the Buddha’s name, he entered into Samadhi of the recitation of the Buddha’s name and met with Sakyamuni Buddha in person in 1999.
He received a Buddha Body from the Buddha and attained the confirmation of Buddhahood in 2000, and further, it was verified first-hand by Sakyamuni Buddha that he was Venerable Ananda in his previous life in India.
In 2000, he founded Hyonjisa along with Great Monk Gwangmyong Manduk who was known as Venerable Kasyapa in her previous life.
The 21st Century Buddha’s Message which was written by our two Great Monks was published in 2005; it was continuously listed as the best-selling Buddhist book for over one year.
Since then, when a Dharma talk is given by our Great Monk Jajae Manhyon, a crowd of faithful Buddhists gathers together at Hyonjisa from across the country to hear his sermon.
We sincerely hope that the Dharma talks posted on YouTube will be of great help to our Buddhists throughout the world in their practice and that their lives will be all the happier and more prosperous because of these.
