Four months ago, my family moved to a new home. This is a special place because it is a place where the previous owner was a Christian – the house items gave me clues that the owner prayed and trusted in the Lord.
At first glance, during an open house, I wouldn’t say I liked the home because it was a two-story house with a pool. I preferred a one-story house without a pool. Also, what caught my firm conviction against this home was that the home was being sold because the owners were getting a divorce. I was so sure that this home was not the home for my family for that reason. I didn’t want to be in a home where divorce was the foundation of the location.
However, I visited this home three times a month during the open house. Even with a price decrease, no one seemed to be interested. I took a chance and carefully looked at the home again the third time on the third month of house hunting. I entered the master bedroom and closed the door to look at the mirrored closet behind the door. Then, I saw a handwritten sign: “Trust in the Lord.”
I did not write this. It was the owner – then it opened my eyes to all the other small furniture and decorations around. I saw phrases like “Always pray” and “God’s plan.”
I prayed to Jesus that I desired a home with God’s presence hovering day and night. I wanted a place like Naioth at Ramah (1 Samuel 19) when even the calloused heart of King Saul could not deny the presence of God. How can a place ever be like this? I do not have the exact formula for such divination. However, the starting point was anointing prayer.
I anointed every item as I removed each item from the moving boxes. I began to pray over every cup, fork, bedding, toiletry, and even sock and asked the Holy Spirit to pour His anointing oil. I prayed over paper, pencils, chairs, furniture, and food in the pantries. I prayed for individual underwear as I folded them. Countless prayers poured into the home.
Construction workers who have come to fix and remodel parts of the home, I prayed that they will be blessed. I blessed the pets and neighbors who crossed our streets with the holy spirit.
Finally, I prayed that each door frame of the home would be sealed with the blood of Jesus Christ.
This is the house I live in – drenched with prayers.
Now, I need to pick one place in the house to do pillow talk with him. I can’t wait to have my intimate time with the Lord.
I thank Jesus for giving me the opportunity, heart, and idea to pray like that. Now, I take this type of prayer out to my work. May the holy spirit’s presence hover over everywhere I go. Amen.
