Sound
by D.J. Yoon
In the Nakdong River,
A tiny baby sweetfish with wide and worried eyes
Swims up to Grandpa Willow by the riverbank.
Grandpa, what is that sound?
Rumble the sound of a Poclain
Clang the sound of a bulldozer
Roar the sound of a truck
All day long all night long
The noises do not stop.
Soon,
Baby Sweetfish and Grandpa Willow
May lose the home
They have always known.
Grandpa Willow knows the truth
But his old heart is too heavy
To say the words.
Appreciation Reivew 感想
Baby Sweetfish and Grandpa Willow is a gentle and touching poem for children.
The simple words and short lines make it easy to read, while the sounds 'Rumble, Clang, Roar' help young readers clearly imagine the loud machines.
The quiet river and the worried baby sweetfish create a strong feeling of sadness when their home is in danger.
Grandpa Willow’s heavy heart shows love and care without using difficult language.
This poem softly teaches children to think about nature and to care for the places where living things call home.
