Must Correctly Understand the Providence of God Hidden in Christ’s Atonement

Scripture Reading: Job 33~34

서로가 자신이 알고 믿는 것만 진리라 착각하는 욥과 세 친구들의 논쟁을 지켜보던 젊은 엘리후가, “내가 정직한 마음으로 진실하게 말하리라. 하나님의 영이 나를 만드셨고 전능자의 숨결이 나에게 생명을 주셨음이라. - 나도 흙으로 만들어졌고 하나님 앞에서는 나와 그대가 똑같으니, 내가 당신을 억압하거나 두렵게 하지 못하리라(33:3-7)” 하였듯, 하나님 앞에서는 모든 사람이 똑같으므로 강압적으로 말씀을 전하지 말고 진솔하게 하나님의 뜻을 전해야 되고, “나는 순수하고 결백하며 죄를 짓거나 잘못도 없으나, 하나님께서 나를 원수로 여기시고 나를 흠잡아, 내 발에 족쇄를 채우고 나의 모든 길을 면밀하게 주시하신다 하였으니, 내가 말하나니 그대의 말이 옳지 않도다 하나님은 사람보다 위대하심이라(33:9-12)” 하였듯, 그릇된 믿음과 행위에서 나오는 하나님께 불평하고 원망하는 죄를 일깨워야 됩니다.

Almost people are thought that what he knew and believed was the truth only, as the Job and his three friends were, because everyone is the same sinners before God. So, we should not forcefully teach the truth of God that we know, but should gently and sincerely convey only God’s will, like the young man Elifu was, who watched the debate between Job and his three friends, as “My words come from an upright heart; my lips sincerely speak what I know. The Spirit of God has made me; the breath of the Almighty gives me life. – I am just like you before God; I too have been taken from clay. No fear of me should alarm you, nor should my hand be heavy upon you (33:3-7)” Because, we must awakened to the fact that we are committing the sin of complaining and resenting God without knowing our own wrong beliefs and actions, as “I am pure and without sin; I am clean and free from guilt. Yet God has found fault with me; he considers me his enemy. He fastens my feet in shackles; he keeps close watch on all my paths. But I tell you, in this you are not right, for God is greater than man (33:9-12)”

그래서 “하나님은 사람들이 인식하지 못할지라도 여러가지 방법으로 말씀하시며. 사람이 밤에 침상에서 졸며 깊은 잠에 빠져들 때 꿈이나 환상으로 보여주시거나, 사람의 귀를 열고 경고의 말씀으로 두렵게 하시며, 그들이 그릇된 행실을 버리고 교만에 빠지지 않게 하시며, 그들의 생명이 칼에 멸망하거나 영혼이 무덤에 들어가지 않게 보호하시며(33:14-18)” 하였듯, 끊임없이 일깨우며 그릇된 믿음과 교만을 버리고 멸망의 심판으로 떨어지지 않게 보호하시며, “죽음의 사자들이 그의 생명을 기다리고 영혼은 무덤에 가까워지지만, 만일 일천 천사 가운데 한 천사가 그 사람을 중보하며 그는 정직하다 선언하면, 하나님께서 은혜를 베푸사 내가 대속물을 얻었으니 그를 풀어주고 죽음에 넘겨주지 말라 하시리라(33:22-24)” 하였듯, 그리스도의 대속으로 구원을 얻도록 예비하신 하나님의 섭리를 가르치게 하셨습니다.

So, God, with His infinitely gentle love, constantly awakens us to abandon our false beliefs and pride and repent, so that we do not fall into judgement of destruction, as “For God does speak-now one way, now another-though man may not perceive it. In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls on men as they slumber in their beds, he may speak in their ears and terrify them with warnings, to turn man from wrongdoing and keep him with pride, to preserve his soul from the pit, his life from perishing by the sword (33:14-18)” And, also, teaches to sinners about God’s providence in preparing Christ’s atonement and salvation, as “His soul draws near to the pit, and his life to the messengers of death. Yet if there is an angel on his side as a mediator, one out of a thousand, to tell a man what is right for him, to be gracious to him and say, ‘Spare him from going down to the pit; I have found a ransom for him (33:22-24)”

그런 하나님의 섭리와 그리스도 복음의 진리를 올바로 알아야만, “그가 기도하면 응답하시는 하나님의 얼굴을 보며 기뻐하며 외치게 되고 하나님께서 회복시키시는 공의로 말미암아, 그가 사람들 앞으로 나아와 선포하기를 내가 정의를 왜곡시키며 범죄하였으나 당연히 받아야할 벌을 받지 않았고, 하나님께서 내 영혼을 죽음에서 건지시고 생명의 빛 가운데 살게 하셨다 하리라. 하나님께서 사람들에게 그런 일을 두세번씩 하심은, 그들의 영혼을 사망에서 건져내어 생명의 빛 가운데 살게 하려 하심이라(33:26-30)” 하였듯, 하나님의 은혜를 찬양하며 복음의 진리를 전하게 되는데, “욥이 말하기를 무죄한 나의 정의로움을 하나님이 부인하셨고, 의로운 나를 거짓말쟁이라 하시며 죄가 없는 나에게 치유하지 못할 깊은 상처를 주셨다 하였으니, 물 마시듯 경멸하는 욥처럼 불경한 사람이 있었는가, 그가 사악한 자들과 연합하고 악행하는 자들과 한패가 되었으면서, 하나님을 기쁘시게 하려는 사람의 노력이 쓸모없다 하는구나(34:5-9)” 하였듯, 욥은 그리스도 복음의 진리를 전혀 모르는 율법적이고 그릇된 믿음이었습니다.

Anyone, who will be able to give thanks and praise for God’s grace and love and correctly spread the truth of the gospel, if who correctly knows and believes in the providence of God and the truth of the gospel in Christ, as “He prays to God and finds favor with him, he sees God’s face and shouts for joy; he is restored by God to his righteous state. Then he comes to men and says, ‘I sinned, and perverted what was right, but I did not get what I deserved. He redeemed my soul from going down to the pit, and I will live to enjoy the light. God does all these things to a man-twice, even three times-to turn back his soul from the pit, that the light of life may shine on him (33:26-30)” Therefore, Job’s faith was a legalistic and wrong faith that did not know the truth of the gospel of Christ at all, although God praised him as “He is the finest man in all the earth—a man of complete integrity, He fears God and will have nothing to do with evil(Job1:8)” as “I am innocent, but God denies me justice. Although I am right, I am considered a liar; although I am guiltless, his arrow inflicts an incurable wound. What man is like Job, who drinks scorn like water? He keeps company with evildoers; he associates with wicked men. For he says, ‘It profits a man nothing when he tries to please God (34:5-9)”

왜냐하면, “총명한 자들아 내 말을 들으라 하나님은 악을 행하시지 않고 전능하신 이는 결코 잘못하지 아니하시며, 각 사람이 행한대로 갚으시고 각 사람의 행위에 합당하게 벌하시며, 하나님이 잘못하시리라 상상할 수도 없고 전능하신 하나님이 정의를 왜곡하시지 않음이라(34:10-12)” 하였듯, 하나님은 전지전능하시고 잘못 판단하지 아니하시며 각 사람의 행위대로 갚으시는 공의의 하나님이기 때문이며, “만일 하나님께서 의도적으로 그의 영과 숨결을 거두시면, 모든 사람이 동시에 멸망하고 흙으로 돌아가리라(34:14-15)” 하였듯, 하나님의 은혜와 사랑을 거두시면 즉시 모든 사람이 죽어 흙으로 돌아가기 때문입니다.

Because, God is omnipotent, omniscient, and righteous, and does not judge wrongly, and rewards each person according to own actions, as “So, listen to me, you men of understanding. Far be it from God to do evil, from the Almighty to do wrong. He repays a man for what he has done; he brings upon him what his conduct deserves. It is unthinkable that God would do wrong, that the Almighty would pervert justice (34:10-12)” Also, if God’s grace and love are taken away, all living things will die immediately and return to the dust, as “If it were his intention and he withdrew his spirit and breath, all mankind would perish together and man would return to the dust (34:14-15)”

또한 “정의를 미워하는 하나님이라면 어떻게 다스리시겠느냐 정의롭고 전능하신 이를 네가 정죄하려느냐, 그는 왕들과 귀족들에게도 사악하고 쓸모없다 하시며, 그가 모든 사람들을 만드셨으므로 왕족이라고 편애하거나 가난한 자들보다 부자를 우대하지도 아니하시느니라(34:17-19)” 하였듯 하나님은 모든 사람을 공평하게 대우하시며, “하나님은 사람들의 삶을 살피시며 하는 일들을 다 보시므로, 행악자들이 숨을 만한 어둠이나 그늘은 없으며, 사람을 심판하시려고 하나님께서 조사할 필요도 없고, 아무리 막강한 자라도 즉시 멸망시키시고 다른 사람을 대신 세우심이라(34:21-24)” 하였듯, 악인들은 반드시 제거하시고 선한 사람으로 대체하시며 정의롭고 공평하며 인애와 사랑이 넘치는 세상이 되도록 섭리하십니다.

He is also a fair God who treats everyone equally, as “Can he who hates justice govern? Will you condemn the just and mighty One? Is he not the One who says to kings, ‘You are worthless, and to nobles, ‘You are wicked, who shows no partiality to princes and does not favor the rich over the poor, for they are all the work of his hands (34:17-19)” However, God is the one who removes the wicked and replaces them with good people, and guides and governs the world to become just, fair, and full of love and mercy, as “His eyes are on the ways of men; he sees their every step. There is no dark place, no deep shadow, where evildoers can hide. God has no need to examine men further, that they should come before him for judgement. Without inquiry he shatters the mighty and sets up others in their place (34:21-24)”

왜냐하면, “어떤 사람이 하나님께 내가 죄인이오나 다시는 범죄하지 않겠나이다 하였거나, 내가 잘못한 일이 있다면 다시는 그렇게 하지 않도록 내가 보지 못하는 것을 가르치소서 하였는가, 그대가 회개를 거절함에도 그대가 원하는 대로 하나님께서 갚으셔야 하겠느냐 그러면 내가 결정할 것이 아니니 그대가 선택하고 아는 대로 말해보라(34:31-33)” 하였듯, 사람은 자신의 그릇된 믿음이나 죄악을 스스로 깨닫거나 회개하지 못하므로, 고난으로 징계하여 하나님을 찾게 하시고 잘못과 죄악을 일깨워 회개로 인도하시기 때문에, “욥이 지혜롭지 못하고 무식하게 말하였고, 악인과 같이 사악한 말을 한 욥이 극심한 시험받기를 원하나니, 그가 그의 죄에 하나님께 반역하며 모독하는 죄를 더하였음이라(34:34-37)” 하였듯, 젊은 엘리후를 내세워 꾸짖으며 일깨우게 하셨으나, 욥이 인정하지 않고 회개하지 아니하므로, 하나님께서 폭풍우 가운에 강림하셔서 창조섭리와 능력을 장황하게 설명하시며 욥이 아는 것보다 모르는 것이 더 많다는 사실을 일깨우셨을 때(38~39장), 욥이 비로소 “아무 가치 없는 내가 어떻게 대답하리이까 내 손으로 입을 막을 뿐이옵니다. 내가 한번 말했으나 대답할 말이 없고 두번 이상 할말도 없나이다(40:4-5)” 하였듯, 자신의 무지를 인정하였으나 회개하지는 않았습니다.

Because, people do not realize or repent of their own wrong beliefs or sins, God disciplines them through suffering so that they seek God, awaken them to their sins and mistakes, and lead them to repentance, as “Suppose a man says to God. ‘I am guilty but will offend no more. Teach me what I cannot see; if I have done wrong, I will not do so again. Should God then reward you on your terms, when you refuse to repent? You must decide, not I; so, tell me what you know (34:31-33)” So, God sent out young man Elihu to rebuke and awaken Job, as “Men of understanding declare, wise men who hear me say to me, Job speaks without knowledge; his words lack insight. Oh, that Job might be tested to the utmost for answering like a wicked man. To his sin he adds rebellion; scornfully he claps his hands among us and multiplies his words against God (34:34-37)” But, Job did not admit it and did not repent. So, God came in the midst of the storm and gave a long explanation of the providence and power of creation, reminding Job that there was more he did not know than he did know (Job38~39). So, Job admitted his ignorance, but he did not repent, as “I am unworthy-how can I repay to you? I put my hand over my mouth. I spoke once, but I have no answer-twice, but I will say no more (40:4-5)”

그리고 하나님의 심판의 법칙과 능력을 들은(40~41장) 다음에 비로소 전능하신 하나님을 인정하고, “주께서 무지한 말로 나의 가르침에 의문을 제기하는 자가 누구냐 물으셨사오나 내가 알 수 없을 만큼 놀라운 일들을 이해하지도 못하면서 말하였나이다. 내가 이제 말하리니 들으라 내가 네게 묻는대로 대답하라 주께서 내게 말씀하셨나이다. 내가 주께 대하여 귀로 듣기만 하였으나 이제는 내 눈으로 주를 보았나이다. 그러므로 나 자신을 경멸하며 티끌과 재에 앉아 회개하나이다(42:2-6)” 하였듯, 사람이 자신의 잘못된 믿음과 죄를 인정하고 회개하는 일이 얼마나 어려운지 잊지 말고, 욥처럼 자신의 의에 대한 자부심에 사로잡히지 말고, 세 친구처럼, 하나님을 아는 지식으로 남을 매도하고 정죄하는 죄에도 빠지지 말고, 잘못을 지적하며 일깨우되 온유와 사랑을 잊지 말고 포용하고 감싸주며 회개로 인도하라는 뜻입니다. 여러분 모두 올바른 믿음으로 그리스도의 대속과 구원을 얻어 부활하고 천국에 들어가 영생하게 되기를 예수 그리스도의 이름으로 간절히 축복하며 기도합니다. 아멘.

And, Job, having heard the laws and power of God’s judgement through God (Job40-41), finally he acknowledged God’s omnipotence and repent to God, as “I know that you can do all things; no plan of yours can be thwarted. You asked, ‘Who is this that obscures my counsel without knowledge? Surely, I spoke of things I did not understand, things too wonderful for me to know. You said, ‘Listen now, and I will speak; I will question you, and you shall answer me. My ears had heard of you but now my eyes have seen you. Therefore, I despise myself and repent in dust and ashes (42:2-6)” Therefore, you should know how difficult it is to realize, admit, or repent of your own wrong beliefs and sins. Instead, we should not ne obsessed with our righteousness like Job, nor should we condemn or criticize others with our knowledge of God like the three friends of Job, but we should correctly understand the providence of God hidden in the atonement of Christ, and with gentle love, we should point out their mistakes, awaken them, embrace them, and guide them to repentance. I pray and earnestly bless you all in the name of Jesus Christ, so that you may receive Christ’s redemption and salvation with the right faith and be resurrected and live forever in the heaven of God.
