242. 바라문 : "정당하게 취득한 사마가, 금고나가, 지나가(이것들은 식물명)와 잎과일, 뿌리과일, 덩굴과일들을 먹는 사람들, 그들은 감각기관의 욕망을 위하지 않고, 거짓말하지도 않네."	242.“那些食用正當取得的娑摩迦，金古羅迦，支那迦（均是植物名）和葉果，根果，藤果的人，他們不為了感官慾望而說謊。	1. Amagandhabrahmana: 'Those who eat samaka, kingulaka, and kinaka, pattaphala, mulaphala, and gaviphala (different sorts of grass, leaves, roots, &c.), justly obtained of the just, do not speak falsehood, (nor are they) desirous of sensual pleasures. (238)
243. "다른 사람이 주는 정성껏 만든 좋은 식품을 먹고, 쌀로 만든 식품을 먹는 사람, 가섭아(세존의 별칭)! 이러한 사람은 비린내 나는 음식을 먹는 것이다."	243.“吃別人施捨的，精心製作的精美食品，吃稻米製作的食品，迦葉啊！這樣的人吃葷腥。	2. 'He who eats what has been well prepared, well dressed, what is pure and excellent, given by others, he who enjoys food made of rice, eats, O Kassapa, Amagandha (what defiles one). (239)
244. "그대가 말하기를 '나에 대한 비린내나는 음식(에 대한 비난)은 적절하지 않다.'고. 범천의 친척아! 그러나 너는 또 정성스럽게 만든 새고기와 쌀밥도 먹었는 데, 가섭아! 내가 묻노니, 네가 말하는 비린내 나는 음식은 무엇이냐?"	244.“你說道‘葷腥對我不適宜。’梵天的親屬啊！而你又吃精心製作的鳥肉米飯，迦葉啊！我問個問題，你說的葷腥是什麼？”	3. '(The charge of) Amagandha does not apply to me,' so thou sayest, 'O Brahman (brahmabandhu, although) enjoying food (made) of rice together with the well-prepared flesh of birds. I ask thee, O Kassapa, the meaning of this, of what description (is then) thy Amagandha?' (240)
245. 세존 : "생명을 훼멸하고, 죽이고, 베며, 때리고, 훔치고, 거짓말하고, 사취하며, 사기하고, 허위하고, 다른 사람의 처와 동거하는 것, 비린내 나는 것은 이런 것들이지요. 고기를 먹는 것이 아니고."	245.“毀滅生命，殺，砍，捆，偷盜，說謊，行騙，欺詐，虛偽，與他人之妻同居，葷腥是這些。而不是食肉。	4. Kassapabuddha: 'Destroying living beings, killing, cutting, binding, stealing, speaking falsehood, fraud and deception, worthless reading[1], intercourse with another's wife;--this is Amagandha, but not the eating of flesh. (241)
246. "방종하며, 애욕을 탐하고, 맛있는 음식을 탐하고, 더러움에 물들고, 허무한 것을 신봉하며, 공정하지 못하고, 순응하지 못하는 것, 비린내 나는 것은 이런 것들이지요. 고기를 먹는 것이 아니고."	246.“放縱愛慾，貪食美味，沾染污垢，信奉虛無，不公正，難順應，葷腥是這些，而不是食肉。	5. 'Those persons who in this world are unrestrained in (enjoying) sensual pleasures, greedy of sweet things, associated with what is impure, sceptics (natthikaditthi), unjust, difficult to follow;--this is Amagandha, but not the eating of flesh. (242)
247. "난폭하고, 경솔하며, 뒤에서 욕하고, 친구를 배반하며, 냉혹하고, 교만하고, 인색하며, 어떠한 사람에게도 베풀지 않으려고 하는 것, 비린내 나는 것은 이런 것들이지요. 고기를 먹는 것이 아니고."	247.“粗暴，魯莽，背後罵人，背叛朋友，冷酷，驕傲，吝嗇，不肯向任何人施捨，葷腥是這些，而不是食肉。	6. 'Those who are rough, harsh, backbiting, treacherous, merciless, arrogant, and (who being) illiberal do not give anything to any one;--this is Amagandha, but not the eating of flesh. (243)
248. "분노하고, 도취되고, 고집스럽고, 편파적이고, 거짓말로 속이고, 시기하고, 허풍을 떨고, 거만하고 뻐기며, 악한 사람과 사귀는 것, 비린내 나는 것은 이런 것들이지요. 고기를 먹는 것이 아니고."	248.“恚怒，迷醉，固執，偏頗，欺誑，妒忌，吹牛，驕傲自大，與惡人交往，葷腥是這些，而不是食肉。	7. 'Anger, intoxication, obstinacy, bigotry, deceit, envy, grandiloquence, pride and conceit, intimacy with the unjust;--this is Amagandha, but not the eating of flesh. (244)
249. "그들 비열한 사람들은 세상에서 악을 짓고, 그들은 품행이 나쁘며, 빚이 산더미 같고, 헛소문을 내며, 비방하고, 허위로 날조하네, 비린내 나는 것은 이런 것들이지요. 고기를 먹는 것이 아니고."	249.“那些卑鄙的人在世上作惡，他們品行惡劣，負債累累，造謠誹謗，弄虛作假，葷腥是這些，而不是食肉。	8. 'Those who in this world are wicked, and such as do not pay their debts, are slanderers, false in their dealings, counterfeiters, those who in this world being the lowest of men commit sin;--this is Amagandha, but not the eating of flesh. (245)
250. "그 사람들은 세상에서 중생에 대하여 방자하여 꺼리낌이 없고, 사람의 물건을 취한 후에 사람의 몸을 상하게 하고, 사악하고, 잔인하며, 난폭하며, 무례하네, 비린내 나는 것은 이런 것들이지요. 고기를 먹는 것이 아니고."	250.“那些人在世上對眾生肆無忌憚，取人之物卻又傷人之身，邪惡，殘忍，粗暴，無禮，葷腥是這些，而不是食肉。	9. 'Those persons who in this world are unrestrained (in their behaviour) towards living creatures, who are bent upon injuring after taking others' (goods), wicked, cruel, harsh, disrespectful;--this is Amagandha, but not the eating of flesh. (246)
251. "그 사람들은 매우 탐욕스럽고, 살기가 충만하며, 늘 악을 짓고, 이로 인하여, 그들은 죽은 후 암흑세계로 가며, 머리가 먼저 아래로 떨어져 지옥에 들어가네. 비린내 나는 것은 이런 것들이지요. 고기를 먹는 것이 아니고."	251.“那些人貪婪，充滿殺機，經常作惡，因此，他們死後走向黑暗，頭朝下附入地獄。葷腥是這些，而不是食肉。	10. 'Those creatures who are greedy of these (living beings, who are) hostile, offending; always bent upon (evil) and therefore, when dead, go to darkness and fall with their heads downwards into hell;--this is Amagandha, but not the eating of flesh. (247)
252. "물고기 고기, 재계, 나체, 삭발, 상투, 몸에 회를 바르는 것, 가죽 옷 거친 옷을 입는 것, 불을 섬기는 것, 세상의 많은 불후적 고행, 시를 읊는 것, 공양하는 것, 제사, 절기에 순응하는 것, 이러한 모든 것들도, 의혹을 제거하지 못한 사람을 정화시킬 수가 없네."	252.“魚肉，齋戒，裸體，削髮，束髮，身上涂灰，穿粗皮衣，侍奉祭火，世上許多不朽的苦行，頌詩，供奉，祭祀，順應節氣，所有這些都不能淨化一個沒有擺脫疑惑的人	11. 'Neither the flesh of fish, nor fasting, nor nakedness, nor tonsure, nor matted hair, nor dirt, nor rough skins, nor the worshipping of the fire, nor the many immortal penances in the world, nor hymns, nor oblations, nor sacrifice, nor observance of the seasons, purify a mortal who has not conquered his doubt[1]. (248)
253. "지혜로운 사람은 감각기관을 수호하고, 감각기관을 제어하며, 바른 법에 근거하고, 정직과 온화함을 기뻐하네. 그는 속박을 벗어나고, 일체 괴로움을 던져 버리며, 본 바나 들은바에 집착하지 않네."	253.“智者守護感官，控制感官，立足於正法，喜歡正直與溫和。他擺脫束縛，拋卻一切痛苦，不執著所見所聞。”	12. 'The wise man wanders about with his organs of sense guarded, and his senses conquered, standing firm in the Dhamma, delighting in what is right and mild; having overcome all ties and left behind all pain, he does not cling to what is seen and heard.' (249)
254. 세존(여기서는 가섭을 말함)께서 이렇게, 비린내 나는 것에서 벗어나며, 집착하지 않는 도리를 반복하여 가르치고, 뒤따르기 힘든 성자께서 각종 게송을 사용하여, 이 도리를 천명해 주자, 이 송시[베다]에 통달한 사람(가섭과 문답한 바라문)은 이 도리를 명백하게 알게 되었다.	254.“世尊（這裡是指迦葉）就這樣反覆講述這個道理，這位擺脫暈腥，無所執著，難以效仿的牟尼用各種偈頌闡明這個道理，這位通曉頌詩者（指向迦葉問話的婆羅門）明白了這個道理。	13. Thus Bhagavat preached this subject again and again, (and the Brahmana) who was accomplished in the hymns (of the Vedas) understood it; the Muni who is free from defilement, independent, and difficult to follow, made it clear in various stanzas. (250)
255. 부처님(여기서는 가섭을 가리킴)의 이러한 비린내 나는 것에서 벗어나고, 괴로움을 배제하라는 묘한 말씀을 듣고, 그는 공손히 여래를 향하여 경배를 하고, 그 자리에서 출가를 선택하였다.	255.“聽了佛陀（這裡是指迦葉）講述的這些擺脫暈腥，排除痛苦的妙語，他謙恭地向如來（這裡是指迦葉）致敬，當場選擇出家。	14. Having heard Buddha's well-spoken words, which are free from defilement and send away all pain, he worshipped Tathagata's (feet) in humility, and took orders at once. (251)
