Women make up roughly half of a US labor union membership but representaton in the top-level union leadership positions has lagged
However, black and Latina women are starting to gain ground, landing top positions at some of the biggest union in the US. these women who experice a wide gender pay gap and face both racism and sexism in their career are increasingly stepping up to fight them as union leaders.
Additon to focusing more attention on family-freindly benefits like parental leave and healthcare coverage, they have helped spur unique bargaining wins in a variety of industries.
