Must Have Faith that Prepares for judgement before death comes

성경말씀: 전도서 9~12장

Scripture Reading: Ecclesiastes 9~12

“그 모든 것을 내가 마음에 두고 살펴보니 의인들이나 지혜자들이나 그들의 행위가 모두 다 하나님의 손에 있으니 그들이 미래에 사랑을 받을는지 미움을 받을는지 사람이 알지 못하느니라. 의인이나 악인이나 좋거나 나쁘거나 제사를 드리거나 제사를 드리지 않거나 선인이나 죄인이나 맹세하는 자나 맹세하기를 무서워하는 자에게 일어나는 일들이 똑같고 모든 사람에게 똑 같은 운명이 기다리고 있음이라. 사람들이 마음에 가득한 악으로 미친듯이 살다가 죽은 자들에게 돌아가는 비참한 최후를 맞이하는 것이라. 그러나 살아있는 개가 죽은 사자보다 나은 것처럼 누구든지 살아있는 자에게는 소망이 있느니라. 살아있는 자들은 죽음이 기다리는 줄 알지만 죽은 자들은 아무것도 모르며 그들의 이름이 잊어졌으므로 다시는 보상을 받지 못함이라(9:1-5)” 하였듯, 사람은 누구나 죽어야 하고 죽은 다음에는 반드시 심판을 받으므로 죽기전에 반드시 심판을 대비하여 올바른 믿음을 이루어야 합니다.

Since, people must die and be judged after death, they must prepare for judgement and establish the right faith before they die, as “So, I reflected on all this and concluded that the righteous and the wise and what they do are in God’s hands, but no man knows whether love or hate awaits him. All share a common destiny-the righteous and the wicked, the good and the bad, the clean and the unclean, those who offer sacrifices and those who do not. As it is with the good man, so with the sinner, as it is with those who take oaths, so with those who are afraid to take them. This is the evil in everything that happens under the sun: The same destiny overtakes all. The hearts of men, moreover, are full of evil and there is madness in their hearts while they live, and afterward they join the dead. Anyone who is among the living has hope-even a live dog is better off than a dead lion. For the living know that they will die, but the dead know nothing; they have no further reward, and even the memory of them is forgotten (9:1-5)”

왜냐하면, “그들이 사랑이나 미움이나 질투가 모두 오래전에 사라졌으므로 해 아래에서 일어나는 어떤 일에도 그들이 참여할 수 없음이라. 그러나 네가 하는 모든 일에 하나님께서 은혜를 베푸셨으므로 가서 기쁘고 즐거운 마음으로 음식을 먹고 포도주를 마시라. 항상 흰 옷을 입고 머리에 향유를 바르라. 하나님이 해 아래에서 네게 허락하신 허무한 인생을 살 동안에 네가 사랑하는 아내와 함께 즐겁게 사는 것이 일평생 해 아래에서 수고하고 얻은 네 분복임이라. 네가 장차 들어갈 무덤에는 할일도 없고 계획도 없고 지식도 없고 지혜도 없으므로 네 앞에 다가오는 모든 일을 힘을 다하여 하라(9:6-10)” 하였듯, 죽는 순간 믿을 기회나 구원의 소망은 사라지고 영원한 멸망의 심판이 기다리기 때문입니다.

Because, the moment you die, the opportunity to achieve faith and the hope of salvation disappear, and you are judged to eternal destruction, as “Their love, their hate and their jealousy have long since vanished; never again will they have a part in anything that happens under the sun. Go, eat your food with gladness, and drink your wine with a joyful heart, for it is now that God favors what you do. Always be clothed in white, and always anoint your head with oil. Enjoy life with your wife, whom you love, all the days of this meaningless life that God has given you under the sun-all your meaningless days. For this is your lot in life and in your toilsome labor under the sun. Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might, for in the grave, where you are going, there is neither working nor planning nor knowledge nor wisdom (9:6-10)”

그러므로 “죽은 파리가 향유 한병을 악취가 나게 하는 것처럼 적은 어리석음이 지혜와 존귀를 무너뜨리느니라. 지혜자의 마음은 오른쪽으로 기울어졌고 우매자의 마음은 왼쪽으로 치우쳤느니라. 우매한 자는 지혜가 없으므로 길을 가면서도 자신의 우매함을 나타내느니라. 통치자가 네게 분노하거든 그 자리에서 움직이지 말라 침착함이 큰 실수를 잠재움이라(10:1-4)” 하였듯, 말씀과 성령으로 가르치는 복음의 진리를 올바로 따르지 못하게 가로막는 육신의 생각으로 저지르는 아주 작은 실수가 모든 것을 망치므로, 마음에서 솟아나는 생각들이 성령의 가르침인지 육신의 생각인지 신중하게 분별하며 믿음을 지키도록 항상 겸손하게 묻고 가르침을 받으며 순종해야 합니다.

Therefore, since a small mistake made with the fleshly mind that prevents us from believing the truth of the Word and the gospel that is taught correctly ruins everything, we must always humbly ask, receive teachings, and obey to carefully discern whether the thoughts that arise in our hearts are the teachings of the Holy Spirit or the thoughts of the flesh and to keep our faith, as “As dead flies give perfume a bad smell, so a little folly outweighs wisdom and honor. The heart of the wise inclines to the right, but the heart of the fool to the left. Even as he walks along the road, the fool lacks sense and shows everyone how stupid he is. If a ruler’s anger rises against you, do not leave your post; calmness can lay great errors to rest (10:1-4)”

그래서 “통치자의 실수에서 오는 큰 재난을 보았으니, 우매자에게 높은 지위를 주고 부자들은 낮은 자리에 앉히는 것이며, 귀인들은 걸어 다니고 종들은 말을 타는 것이라. 함정을 파는 자는 거기에 빠지고 담을 허는 자는 뱀에게 물리리라. 돌을 떠내는 자는 돌에 상하고 나무를 쪼개는 자는 장작에 상처를 입으리라. 무디어진 도끼를 갈지 아니하면 힘이 더 들지만 기술은 성공을 주느니라. 뱀에게 물린 후에는 주술이 필요없느니라. 지혜로운 말은 은혜로우나 우매한 말은 그를 파멸시키느니라. 우매한 마음에서 어리석은 말이 나오지만 심히 악한 광기로 끝남이라(10:5-13)” 하였듯, 자신에게 허락된 일 외에는 하지 말고, 남을 해치려는 어리석은 자가 되지 말고 신령한 지혜와 사랑과 온유를 따라 살아야 된다 가르칩니다.

So, Bible teaches that we should not do anything other than what is permitted to us, and that we should not be foolish and harm others, but live according to divine wisdom, love and gentleness, as “There is an evil I have seen under the sun, the sort of error that arises from a ruler: Fools are put in many high positions, while the rich occupy the low ones. I have seen slaves on horseback, while princes go on foot like slaves. Whoever digs a pit may fall into it; whoever breaks through a wall may be bitten by a snake. Whoever quarries stones may be injured by them; whoever splits logs may be endangered by them. If the ax is dull and its edge unsharpened, more strength is needed but skill will bring success. If a snake bites before it is charmed, there is no profit for the charmer. Words from a wise man’s mouth are gracious, but a fool is consumed by his own lips. At the beginning his words are folly; at the end they are wicked madness (10:5-13)”

그래서 “물에 흘려보내듯 관대하게 나누어 주면 반드시 되돌아오리라. 이 땅에 무슨 재앙이 임할지 알지 못하므로 많은 사람에게 선물을 나누어 주라. 구름이 무거워지면 땅에 비를 쏟아내리고 나무는 쓰러지면 어느쪽으로나 쓰러진 그대로 있느니라. 풍세를 살피는 자는 파종하지 못하고 구름을 살피는 자는 거두지 못하느니라. 바람의 길을 알지 못하고 모태에서 아기의 몸이 어떻게 형성되는지 네가 알지 못하듯 만사를 성취하시는 하나님의 일을 이해할 수 없느니라. 이것이 잘 될지, 저것이 잘될지, 모두다 잘 될지 네가 알지 못하므로 아침부터 씨앗을 뿌리고 저녁때까지 부지런히 가꾸라(11:1-6)” 하셨듯, 자신에게 허락되고 맡겨진 일을 열심히 하며 남들에게는 아낌없이 나누고 섬기라 하셨습니다.

So, God told us to work hard at the work that was allowed and entrusted to us and to share and serve others without holding back, as “Cast your bread upon the waters, for after many days you will find it again. Give portions to seven, yes to eight, for you do not know what disaster may come upon the land. If clouds are full of water, they pour rain upon the earth. Whether a tree falls to the south or to the north, in the place where it falls, there will it lie. Whoever watches the wind will not plant; whoever looks at the clouds will not reap. As you do not know the path of the wind, or how the body is formed in a mother’s womb, so you cannot understand the work of God, the Maker of all things. Sow your seed in the morning, and at evening let not your hands be idle, for you do not know which will succeed, whether this or that, or whether both will do equally well (11:1-6)”

왜냐하면, “감미로운 햇빛을 눈으로 보는 것은 사람을 기쁘게 하느니라. 장수하는 사람은 항상 즐기며 살되 어둠의 날들도 많음을 잊지 말라 다가올 일들은 다 무익함이라. 청년이여 젊을 때에 마음으로 기쁨과 행복을 누리라 눈으로 보고 마음이 원하는 대로 따라가며 즐기되 하나님이 너의 모든 일을 심판하실 줄 알라. 젊음과 활력도 의미 없으니 몸과 마음에서 근심을 떨쳐버리라(11:7-10)” 하셨듯, 젊고 활력이 남았을 때 죽음과 심판을 대비하는 올바른 믿음을 이루어야 되기 때문입니다.

Because, when you are young and energetic, you must form the right faith to prepare for death and judgement, as “Light is sweet, and it pleases the eyes to see the sun. However, many years a man may live, let him enjoy them all. But let him remember the days of darkness, for they will be many. Everything to come is meaningless. Be happy, young man, while you are young, and let your heart give you joy in the days of your youth. Follow the ways of your heart and whatever your eyes see, but know that for all these things God will bring you to judgement. So then, banish anxiety from your heart and cast off the troubles of your body, for youth and vigor are meaningless (11:7-10)”

왜냐하면, “나에게 아무 낙이 없다고 할 곤고한 날이 이르기 전 청년의 때에 너의 창조주를 기억하라 해와 달과 별들의 빛이 희미해지고, 비온 뒤의 구름이 희게 변하듯 흰머리가 되기 전에 기억하라. 그날에는 다리가 떨리고 허리는 굽어지며 이빨은 줄어들고 눈은 어두워지며, 입술을 굳게 닫고 오물거리며 일깨우는 새들의 지저귐도 들리지 않고 목소리는 떨리며, 높은 곳이 무섭고 걷는 것도 겁이나며 머리는 희어지고 체력은 떨어지며 정욕도 그칠 때 영원한 집으로 돌아가고 조문객들이 왕래하게 되므로, 생명의 은줄이 끊어지고 영혼의 금 그릇이 깨어지며 생명수의 공급이 끊어지고, 육신은 흙으로 돌아가고 영혼은 하나님께 돌아가기 전에 창조주 하나님을 기억하라(12:1-7)” 하였듯 늙고 기력이 약해지면 할 수 없기 때문입니다.

Because, when you get old and weak, you can’t achieve it, as “Remember your Creator in the days of your youth, before the days of trouble come and the years approach when you will say, ‘I find no pleasure in them, before the sun and the light and the moon and the stars grow dark, and the clouds return after the rain; when the keepers of the house tremble, and the strong men stoop, when the grinders cease because they are few, and those looking through the windows grow dim; when the doors to the street are closed and the sound of grinding fades; when men rise up at the sound of birds, but all their songs grow faint; when men are afraid of heights and of dangers in the streets; when the almond tree blossoms and the grasshopper drags himself along and desire no longer is stirred. Then man goes to his eternal home and mourners go about the streets. Remember him-before the silver cord is severed, or the golden bowl is broken; before the pitcher is shattered at the spring, or the wheel broken at the well, and the dust returns to the ground it came from, and the spirit returns to God who gave it (12:1-7)”

그래서 “지혜로운 전도자가 깊이 생각하고 연구하여 잠언을 많이 지어 백성에게 지식을 나누어 주었으며, 전도자가 적절하고 올바른 말씀들을 힘써 연구하여 정직하고 진실한 말씀들을 기록하였으니, 지혜자의 말씀들은 배우는 자들을 자극하여 행동하게 하는 중요한 진리로서 진실한 목자에게서 온 것이라. 내 아들아 이것에 더하려고 많이 공부하고 책을 쓰는 것은 몸을 지치게 할 뿐이므로 경계를 받으라. 모든 것을 다 들었으니 하나님을 경외하고 그의 명령들을 지키는 것이 사람의 본분이니라. 하나님께서 우리의 행위와 숨겨진 일들까지 선악간에 모두 심판하시리라(12:9-14)” 가르치는데, 말씀과 성령이 가르치는 진리를 넘어 더 많은 것을 알려고 하거나 남에게 가르치려는 어리석은 죄에 빠지지 말고 겸손하게 맡기고 순종하는 믿음으로만 구원을 얻기 때문입니다. 여러분 모두 죽음과 심판을 대비하는 올바른 믿음 끝까지 지키고 구원 얻기를 예수 그리스도의 이름으로 간절히 축복하며 기도합니다. 아멘.

Because, we must not fall into the foolish sin of trying to know more than the truth taught by the Word and the Holy Spirit, or of trying to teach it to others, but we can only be saved by faith that humbly entrusts and obeys, as “Not only was the Teacher wise, but also he imparted knowledge to the people. He pondered and searched out and set in order many proverbs. The Teacher searched to find just the right words, and what he wrote was upright and true. The words of the wise are like goads, their collected sayings like firmly embedded nails-given by one Shepherd. Be warned, my son, of anything in addition to them. Of making many books there is no end, and much study wearies the body. Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man. For God will bring every deed into judgement, including every hidden thing, whether it is good or evil (12:9-14)” Dear brothers and sisters, I pray earnestly in the name of Christ Jesus that you will have the right faith to prepare for death and judgement, and that you will keep it until the end and be saved. Amen.
