Dear Meridian,
I guess this is the way everyone here starts a letter. I strongly disagree with the way you raise your children. I know it's none of my business, but I see too many femalish, mama's boy type of Koreans here in the states and frankly, it brings shames.
Once upon a time, US went through the same "I want to be your buddy" attitude to their kids and realized that it was back-firing on them. Newest campaign I see on TV is now asking parents to be parents. Julia, I like what you've done to your son. Kids need guidence and support. They can find friends in school.
Granted that I have no kids of my own to make such statement, but for your information, I used to tease and beat-up kids who were too much attached to their parents. :) BE A FREAKING PARENTS! IF YOU'RE LONELY, GO FIND YOUR OWN FRIENDS. YOUR KIDS ARE NOT YOUR FRIENDS. YOUR KIDS ARE YOUR KIDS!!!
Wow! You look like a mother of 'Suk Bong Han'. You are strong and tough minded. In the last time, I felt that you looked like a mother of 'Maeng Ja'.
It is strange to say,I am tender and weak in front of only my sons.
I know I spoiled them so much. I am not a mother of them but a friend.
So, my hubby used to say,"Please, deal with me like your son even though it's a drop of the ocean. " But, I can't pretend to be soft for him.
Your son would be okay. Because, he is your son. At least, he is alike you I guess. ^^
In a sense, I heard that the family name as'강' is famous with a person who is obstinate generally. Isn't it? ^^

--------------------- [원본 메세지] ---------------------
My family name is Kang(강), so my kids usually have the first number of their roll books.
My first son also has the first number of his class, so he sits in the first row beside of the window in his classroom according to the order even though he is the tallest boy in his class.
And he is on duty during this first week.
Yesterday, he had done his first class day in the middle school, and he couldn't write the time table of the next day because of his duty.
So he worried.
He has no friend who he can call because we moved here only ten days ago, and he went his school only one day!
I told him to call his teacher in the school.
He hesitated a little and said to me, "Mom, can you call her for me?"
"NO!! If you were an elementary student in the first grade, I understand you and other people include of your teacher can understand you, but you weren't. If I call her instead of you, she is pulling your leg and it is very very shameful thing!"
But he didn't!
This morning, my poor son went to school with two heavy bags because he prepared all lesson books!!!
Is it true "Adversity makes a man wise"??
I hope he grows wisely..and with confidence.
