18. 대만불자들의 방문

2016년, 무비스님의 원력이 대만불자들을 움직였다.

전세계에 『화엄경』을 법공양하고 있던 대만 원도선원의 신도들이 무비스님의 <화엄경 산림 대법회> 소식을 듣고 『화엄경』을 공부하는 스님들 한 분 한 분께 『화엄경』을 법공양하고 싶다는 의사를 전해 왔다.

경전을 짐칸에 실을 수 없다고 해서, 원도선원 불자 60여 분이 개인 짐을 덜고 『화엄경』을 직접 모시고 비행기를 타서 200질의 『화엄경』을 문수선원으로 가져왔다. 스님들께 일일이 『화엄경』을 법공양 올리고, 무비스님이 강설하는 <화엄법회> 에도 다 같이 참석했다.

이분들의 정성과 『화엄경』에 대한 존경은 한국 불자들의 마음도 움직였다. 문수선원 공양을 마치고 이 분들은 범어사를 비롯해서 버스를 대절해 홍법사, 통도사, 해인사, 송광사, 불국사, 천곡사를 참배하고 하룻밤씩 머물면서 각 절마다 『화엄경』한 질씩을 봉정했다.

버스를 대절해서 움직이는 모든 일정을 천곡사 주지이자 문수경전연구회 회장인 정오스님이 일괄 지원하고, 각 사찰마다 무비스님의 제자스님들이 있어서 절마다 공식적으로 여러 체험 프로그램을 제공하고 이분들을 따뜻하게 환대했다.

18. The Visit of Taiwanese Buddhists

In 2016, Mubi Seunim’s great vow moved the hearts of Buddhists in Taiwan.

The members of Yuandao Zen Center in Taiwan, who were sharing the Avatamsaka Sutra worldwide, heard about Mubi Seunim’s 'Great Hwaeom Sallim Assembly.' They reached out, saying they wanted to offer a set of the Avatamsaka Sutra to every monk studying the scripture.

Because they believed that holy scriptures should not be placed in the airplane’s luggage hold, about 60 members reduced their personal bags and carried 200 sets of the Avatamsaka Sutra by hand onto the plane and brought them to Munsu Seonwon.

They offered the Avatamsaka Sutra to each monk one by one. Afterward, they all attended the Hwaeom Assembly to listen to Mubi Seunim’s teaching.

Their sincerity and respect for the Avatamsaka Sutra also moved the hearts of Korean Buddhists.

After having a meal at Munsu Seonwon, they rented a bus to visit several temples, including Beomeosa, Hongbeopsa, Tongdosa, Haeinsa, Songgwangsa, Bulguksa, and Cheongoksa. They stayed for one night at each temple and offered a set of the Avatamsaka Sutra as a gift.

Jeongo Seunim, the abbot of Cheongoksa Temple and president of the Munsu Scripture Research Society, arranged the entire schedule. Since Mubi Seunim’s disciples were at each temple, they welcomed the visitors warmly and provided special programs for them.
