[토끼와 거북이] Tortoise(육지거북)/ Turtle(바다거북) / Terrapin(반수생: 육지와 바다 양쪽)
Once upon a time, in a forest, there lived a confident hare and a quiet, diligent tortoise. The hare was always boasting about his speed and acting smugly toward the other animals. "I am the fastest in the forest! Who could possibly beat me?"
One day, the hare was taking a leisurely nap in the shade of a tree under the warm sunlight when the tortoise came walking slowly past him. Seeing this, the hare burst into laughter and said to the tortoise, "Tortoise, you really are slow. How do you manage to live moving at such a sluggish pace?" The turtle smiled quietly and said, "I may be slow, but I keep moving forward without giving up." Hearing this, the rabbit chuckled and said, "Then how about a race? Let's see who gets there first." The turtle nodded and replied, "Sure, I'm ready anytime."
News of the race quickly spread, and forest animals gathered one by one, ready for the event to begin. A fox volunteered to act as the referee. The rabbit and the turtle stood side by side, and at the signal to start, the rabbit dashed forward in a flash. The turtle ran with all his might, but he couldn't catch up to the incredibly fast rabbit. After running for a while, the rabbit looked back and saw that the turtle hadn't even covered half the distance. "Heh, I really am the best. The turtle is so slow I can barely even see him." Thinking the turtle was still far behind, the rabbit decided to rest in the cool shade of a tree. His eyes drifted shut, and he soon fell into a deep sleep.
While the rabbit was fast asleep, the turtle—panting heavily—kept pushing forward, taking one step after another. After some time had passed, the turtle, having run so diligently, finally reached the hill overlooking the finish line. Only then did the rabbit wake up; startled, he began to run, but the turtle was already crossing the finish line. The turtle arrived first, and all the forest animals gathered to cheer for him. "Wow! The turtle won! The turtle won!" The rabbit arrived at the finish line shortly after, panting for breath. Hanging his head, he said to the turtle, "I lost. I shouldn't have teased you for being slow." "I'm sorry," the turtle said with a smile. "It's okay to tease me. The important thing is not giving up until the very end." From that day on, the rabbit stopped teasing other animals and learned the power of persistence and diligence, just like the turtle.
