New bishop named for South Korean diocese Father Bae Ki-Hyen served as Masan Diocese's vicar general and chancellorApril 20, 2016Pope Francis has accepted the resignation of Bishop Francis Xavier Ahn Myeong of Masan, South Korea and appointed Father Constantine Bae Ki-Hyen, vicar general and chancellor of the diocese as bishop-designate.
Bishop-designate Bae Ki-Hyen was born Feb. 1, 1953, in Masan. He was ordained a priest on Jan. 28, 1985, for the Diocese of Masan.
He has served the diocese in several capacities. His most recent appointment, as chancellor and vicar general, came in 2015. The Diocese of Masan has an area of 9,054 square kilometers and a population of 2,561,683, of whom 172,949 are Catholics. There are 73 parishes, served by 211 priests (162 diocesan and 49 religious), 316 nuns and 40 seminarians. |
