접두사 연구

 

라틴계통의 접두사들과 부사/전치사의 관계

 

개론: 라틴 계통의 접두사들(ad-/dis-/ab-/con-...)을 분석하는 경우, 전치사 및 부사의 개념으로 설명되므로, 어근의 뜻이 동사인 경우 주로 동사구로 형성된 의미가 전달됩니다.


A. "ad-"접두사와 전치사 "to/near"와의 관계

be similar to../stick to../be equal to.. : "유사한/달라붙다/동등한"에서 공통적으로 전치사“to”를 발견할 수 있듯이“ad-접두사”와 “to”는 관련이 있다.
adhere to(지지하다)/assent to(허락하다)/accede to(동의하다)의 동사들 역시 전치사가 필요한 경우 대부분 "to"가 쓰인다.


adhere

adhere ＝ ad (to) ＋ here (stick) ＝ stick to ＜달라붙다＞
1. 붙다, 접착하다(구체적)
2. 지지하다, 고수하다(추상적)

[예문에서 각각 adhere to를 stick to로 대체해도 같은 의미입니다.]

* Mud adheres to your shoes.
[해석] 진흙은 당신 신발에 달라붙습니다.

* The new tape will adhere to anything.
[해석] 새로 나온 테이프는 어떤 것에도 붙는다. 
 

 

 

ad-접두사의 "증가(addition, increase)의" 의미는?

 

개론: "ad-"접두사의 "구체적인 다가감(motion toward), 인접(proximity), 향함"의미와 " 추상적인 동의, 동감, 일치"는 일반적으로 많이 설명되는 경우이나 특히, "증가의 의미(addition, increase)"는 거의 취급되지 않고 있습니다.

예를 들어 다음과 같은 어휘들의 접두사 의미가 "증가"를 의미합니다.
appreciate＝ap (addition)＋preci (value) + ate ＜더욱 가치를 높이다＞: 평가 절상하다
afforestation ＝ af (increase) ＋ forest+ ation<조림을 증가>: 조림, 식수
aggravate ＝ ag (increase) ＋ grav (heavy) + ate <더욱 심하게 하다>:자중시키다
alleviate ＝al (increase) ＋ levi (light) + ate <더욱 가볍게 하다>: (고통, 슬픔..)완화하다


afforestation

afforestation ＝ af (ad의 동화 : increase) ＋ forest + ation=<조림을 증가>
식수(植樹), 조림 ant> deforestation

숲은 "forest", 나무를 심어 산을 울창하게 하면 "forestation", 보다 울창하게 조림을 하면 "afforestation", 산불이나, 기타 훼손으로 벌채, 벌목이 되어지면 "deforestation"이며, 이 경우 각각 "ad-(증가) 접두사"와 "de-(제거)접두사"의 역할에 유의해야 합니다

Anglo-Saxon 계통 un-접두사

 

un-접두사

포인트: "un-"접두사의 역할은 3가지 의미를 갖고있으나, 어근의 품사별 차이에 따라 쉽게 구별할 수 있다.
un-접두사가 "동사인 어근"과 연결되는 경우는 "역동작(reversal)"
un-접두사가 "명사인 어근"과 연결되는 경우는 "제거, 박탈(removal)"
un-접두사가 "형용사인 어근"과 연결되는 경우는 "不(not)"
