Scripture Reading: Zephaniah 1~3

본문에서 “여호와가 말하노라 내가 땅 위의 모든 것을 쓸어버리리라. 나 여호와가 말하노라 내가 사람과 짐승과 공중의 새와 바다의 고기를 다 쓸어버리리라 내가 사람들을 지면에서 끊어버릴 때에 악인들은 잔해더미가 되리라. 내가 유다와 예루살렘을 쳐서 바알의 흔적과 이방의 우상을 섬기는 제사장들의 이름을 모두 끊어버리리라. 지붕에서 하늘의 별자리를 경배하는 자들과 여호와를 경배하며 그의 이름으로 맹세하면서 아울러 몰렉으로 맹세하는 자들과, 여호와를 배반하고 따르지 않는 자들과 여호와를 찾지 않고 구하지 않는 자들을 모두 멸하리라(1:2-6)” 하였듯, 말씀에 숨겨두고 성령으로 가르치는 진리를 따라 믿지 아니하면 선택된 사람이나 이방인이나 똑같이 멸망의 심판을 받습니다.

If anyone who does not believe in the truth of the gospel hidden in the Bible and taught by the Holy Spirit. Both the chosen and the Gentiles will face the judgement of destruction, as “The word of the Lord that came to Zephniah son of Cushi, the son of Gedaliah, the son of Amariah, the son of Hezekiah, during the reign of Josiah son of Amon king of Judah: I will sweep away everything from the face of the earth, declares the Lord. I will sweep away both men and animals; I will sweep away the birds of the air and the fish of the sea. The wicked will have only heaps of rubble when I cut off man from the face of the earth, declares the Lord. I will stretch out my hand against Judah and against all who live in Jerusalem. I will cut off from this place every remnant of Baal, the names of the pagan and the idolatrous priests—those who bow down on the roofs to worship the starry host, those who bow down and swear by the Lord and who also swear by Molech, those who turn back from following the Lord and neither seek the Lord nor inquire of him (1:2-6)”

그러나 아무도 자신의 죄로 죽지 않고 회개하여 다시 살기를 바라는 하나님의 사랑으로 “여호와의 희생제사의 날에 내가 유다의 지도자들과 왕자들과 이방인의 풍습을 따르는 자들을 벌하리라. 자기 하나님의 성전을 폭력과 속임수로 채우고 문지방을 밟지 않는 자들을 내가 벌하리라. 여호와가 말하노라 그 날에 어문에서 울부짖으며 올라가고 새 구역에서 메아리치며 언덕들이 큰 소리로 울리리라. 은을 거래하는 자들이 파멸되고 상인들이 모두 사라지므로 장터에 사는 자들아 통곡하라. 그때 내가 예루살렘 구석구석에 불을 밝히고 ‘여호와께서는 선악 간에 아무것도 아니하신다’ 하며 포도주에 남은 찌꺼기 같이 안일하게 사는 자들을 찾아내어 벌하리라(1:8-13)” 하였듯, 죄악을 지적하며 멸망의 심판을 경고하십니다.

However, because of God’s love, which does not want anyone to die in sin but wants people to repent and live again, He points out their sins and declares the judgement of destruction, as “On the day of the Lord’s sacrifice I will punish the princes and the king’s sons and all those clad in foreign clothes. On that day I will punish all who avoid stepping on the threshold, who fill the temple of their gods with violence and deceit. On that day, declares the Lord, a cry will go up from the fish Gate, wailing from the New Quarter, and a loud crash from the hills. Wail, you who live in the market district; all your merchants will be wiped out, all who trade with silver will be ruined. At that time, I will search Jerusalem with lamps and punish those who are complacent, who are like wine left on its dregs, who think, ‘The Lord will do nothing, either good or bad. Their wealth will be plundered, their houses demolished. They will build houses but not live in them; they will plant vineyards but not drink the wine (1:8-13)”

왜냐하면 “그들이 집을 지어도 살지 못하고 포도원을 가꾸어도 포도주를 마시지 못하리니 그들의 재물은 약탈되고 집은 파괴됨이라. 여호와의 위대한 날이 가까웠고 속히 오리니 여호와의 날 거기에서 용사들의 격렬한 외침이 있으리라. 그날은 여호와의 진노의 날이니 구름과 흑암이 덮인 어둡고 우울하며 고뇌와 고통과 환난과 멸망의 날이라. 견고한 성읍들과 모퉁이의 망대들을 향하여 나팔을 불고 전쟁의 함성을 지르는 날이라. 너희가 여호와께 범죄하였으므로 내가 너희를 고뇌 속에 맹인처럼 비틀거리며 걷게 하고 피를 티끌에 쏟으며 몸은 더럽게 썩으리라. 여호와의 진노의 날에 여호와의 질투의 불길에 온 세상이 불타고 땅에 사는 모든 사람이 갑자기 멸망하므로 금은이 그들을 구하지 못하리라(1:13-18)” 하였듯, 하나님의 심판이 시행되면 아무도 피하지 못하고 멸망하기 때문입니다.

Because, when God’s judgement begins, no one can escape and will perished, as “Their wealth will be plundered, their houses demolished. They will build houses but not live in them; they will plant vineyards but not drink the wine. The great day of the Lord is near-near and coming quickly. Listen. The cry on the day of the Lord will be bitter, the shouting of the warrior there. That day will be a day of wrath, a day of distress and anguish, a day of trouble and ruin, a day of darkness and gloom, a day of clouds and blackness, a day of trumpet and battle cry against the fortifies and against the corner towers. I will bring distress on the people and they will walk like blind men, because they have sinned against the Lord. Their blood will be poured out like dust and their entrails like filth. Neither their silver nor their gold will be able to save them on the day of the Lord’s wrath. In the fire of his jealousy the whole world will be consumed, for he will make a sudden end of all who live in the earth (1:13-18)”

그래서 “수치스러운 민족아 모두다 모여라. 여호와의 맹렬한 분노가 임하고 여호와의 무서운 진노가 내리며 너희에게 정해진 날이 오기 전에 너희가 겨같이 쓸려가기 전에 모이라. 이 땅에서 여호와의 명령을 따라 행하는 겸손한 자들아 겸손하게 여호와를 찾으며 그의 의를 구하라 여호와의 분노의 날에 너희가 보호를 받으리라. 가사는 버려지고 아스글론은 폐허가 되며 에그론은 한낮에 비워지고 아스돗은 뿌리가 뽑히리라. 바닷가에 사는 그렛 사람들아 여호와의 말씀이 너희를 대적하는 화가 있으리라 가나안 땅 블레셋 사람들아 내가 너희를 멸망시키리니 남을 자가 없으리라(2:1-5)” 하였듯, 멸망의 심판을 경고하며 회개하기를 기다리십니다.

So, God warns of the judgement of destruction and call us to repent and return to God, as “Gather together, gather together, O shameful nation, before the appointed time arrives and that day sweeps on like chaff, before the fierce anger of the Lord comes upon you, before the day of the Lord’s wrath comes upon you. Seek the Lord, all you humble of the land, you who do what he commands. Seek righteousness, seek humility; perhaps you will ne sheltered on the day of the Lord’s anger. Gaza will be abandoned and Ashkelon left in ruins. At midday Ahdod will be emptied and Ekron uprooted. Woe to you who live by the sea, O Kerethite people; the word of the Lord is against you, O Canaan, land of the Philistines. I will destroy you, and none will be left (2:1-5)”

또한 “그렛 사람들이 사는 바닷가 땅에는 양떼의 우리와 목자들이 있으리라. 하나님 여호와가 사로잡힌 자들을 돌이키고 회복시키리니 살아남은 유다 사람들이 그곳을 차지하여 양떼를 먹이고 저녁에는 아스글론의 버려진 집들에서 쉬리라. 내 백성을 모욕하고 그들의 땅을 위협한 모압의 모욕과 암몬 자손들의 비웃음을 내가 들었느니라. 전능하신 여호와 이스라엘의 하나님이 말하노라 내가 살아있는 한 모압은 소돔과 같고 암몬은 고모라와 같이 되어 잡초와 소금 구덩이와 영원한 황무지가 되고 살아남은 내 백성들이 그들을 노략하며 그 땅을 차지하리라. 전능하신 여호와의 백성을 비웃고 조롱한 그들의 교만에 보응함이라(2:6-10)” 하셨듯, 멸망으로 심판하면서도 그루터기와 씨앗은 남겨두고 고난으로 연단하며 하나님을 찾게 하시고 구원과 회복을 약속하며 소망을 주십니다.

Even as God judges us with destruction, He leaves behind the seeds and the stump, allowing us to seek Him through suffering and giving us hope with the promise of salvation and restoration, as “The land by the sea, where the Kerethites dwell, will be a place for shepherds and sheep pens. It will belong to the remnant of the house of Judah, there they will find pasture. In the evening they will lie down in the houses of Ashkelon. The Lord their God will care for them, he will restore their fortunes. I have heard the insults of Moab and the taunts of the Ammonites, who insulted my people and made threats against their land. Therefore, as surely as I live, declares the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, surely Moab will become like Sodom, the Ammonites like Gomorrah-a place of weeds and salt pits, a wasteland forever. The remnant of my people will plunder them; the survivors of my nation will inherit their land. This is what they will get in return for their pride, for insulting and mocking the people of the Lord Almighty (2:6-10)”

그러나 “세상의 모든 신들을 멸하시는 여호와를 두려워하며 해변의 모든 민족들이 자기 땅에서 여호와를 경배하리라. 구스 사람들아 너희도 내 칼에 죽으리라. 여호와가 북쪽으로 손을 펼쳐 앗수르를 멸망시키고 니느웨를 황폐시켜 메마른 사막이 되게 하리라. 거기에 양떼와 소떼가 눕고 온갖 짐승들이 모이며 부엉이와 올빼미가 기둥에 집을 짓고 그들이 부르는 소리가 창문으로 메아리치고 잔해가 문간에 떨어지며 백향목이 드러나리라. 근심없이 평안하게 살며 나와 같은 도시가 없다 자랑하던 성이 폐허가 되고 온갖 야수들의 소굴이 되어 지나가는 자들이 비웃으며 주먹을 흔들리라(2:11-15)” 하셨듯, 경고의 말씀을 듣고도 깨닫지 못하고 회개하지 아니하면 가차없이 심판하십니다.

However, if anyone who does not understand and repent even after hearing the warning, He will judge him mercilessly, as “The Lord will be awesome to them when he destroys all the gods of the land. The nations on every shore will worship him, everyone in its own land. You too, O Cushites, will be slain by my sword. He will stretch out his hand against the north and destroy Assyria, leaving Nineveh utterly desolate and dry as the desert. Flocks and herds will lie down there, creatures of every kind. The desert owl and the screech owl will roost on her columns. Their calls will echo through the windows, rubble will be in the doorways, the beams of cedar will be exposed. This is the carefree city that lived in safety. She said to herself, ‘I am, and there is none besides me. What a ruin she has become, a liar for wild beasts. All who pass by her scoff and shake their firsts (2:11-15)”

그런데, “압제와 반역으로 더럽혀진 성읍에 화가 있으리라. 여호와를 신뢰하지 않고 하나님께 가까이 나아가지 아니하며 징계를 받아들이지 아니하며 아무에게도 순종하지 아니함이라. 관리들은 울부짖는 사자와 같고 지도자들은 남김없이 먹어치우는 저녁 이리와 같으며, 선지자들은 오만한 배반자들이고 제사장들은 성소를 더럽히고 율법을 포악하게 적용하느니라(3:1-4)” 하였듯, 사람들은 하나님을 알고 성령의 은혜를 받으면 선민사상에 빠지고 이미 구원이 확정된 것으로 착각하며 욕심을 따라 악한 삶을 살다가 멸망의 심판을 받습니다.

However, people fall into the idea of being chosen people, believing that they are already God’s people who have received salvation just by receiving a little bit of God’s grace. They live evil lives following their greed, and are judged to be destroyed, as “Woe to the city of oppressors, rebellious and defiled. She obeys no one, she accepts no correction. She does not trust in the Lord, she does not draw near to her God. Her officials are roaring lions, her rulers are evening wolves, who leave nothing for the morning. Her prophets are arrogant; they are treacherous men. Her priests profane the sanctuary and do violence to the Law (3:1-4)”

그러나 “그 때에 내가 모든 사람의 입술을 깨끗하게 하리니 모두가 여호와의 이름을 부르며 다 함께 협력하여 나를 섬기리라. 멀리 구스의 강 건너편으로 흩어졌던 내 백성들도 예물을 가지고 내게 오리라. 그 날에 내가 너희 가운데서 교만한 자들을 모두 제거하여 너희가 다시는 나의 거룩한 산에서 오만하지 않게 하며 너희가 내게 범한 잘못을 모두 제거하여 너희가 다시는 부끄러워하지 않게 하리라. 여호와의 이름을 신뢰하며 온유하고 겸손한 자들만 너희 가운데 남겨 두리라. 살아남은 이스라엘 백성은 악을 행하지 않고 거짓말하지 아니하며 속이지 않고 평안히 먹고 누워도 아무도 두렵게 하지 아니하리라(3:9-13)” 하였듯, 선택을 받아 믿게 된 자는 온 세상 모든 사람을 똑같이 구원하시려는 하나님의 뜻에 따라 복음의 증인이 돼야할 책임이 있을 뿐, 구원이 보장된 것은 아닙니다.

however, those who are chosen to believe are not guaranteed salvation; they are only responsible for becoming witnesses of the gospel according to God’s will to save all people in the world, as “Then will I purify the lips of the peoples, that all of them may call on the name of the Lord and serve him shoulder to shoulder. From beyond the rivers of Cush my worshipers, my scattered people, will bring me offerings. On that day you will not be put to shame for all the wrongs you have done to me, because I will remove from this city those who rejoice in their pride. Never again will you be haughty on my holy hill. But I will leave within you the meek and humble, who trust in the name of the Lord. The remnant of Israel will do no wrong, they will speak no lies, nor will reedit be found in their mouths. They will eat and lie down and no one will make them afraid (3:9-13)”

그러므로 “너희에게 정해진 절기들을 슬퍼하며 무거운 짐과 치욕이 되는 자들을 내가 모두 제거하리라. 너희를 억압하는 자들을 내가 다 처벌하고 절름발이를 구원하며 흩어진 자들을 모으고 그들이 치욕을 받던 모든 땅에서 명예와 찬양을 주리라. 그날에 내가 너희를 모두 함께 모으고 집으로 돌아오게 하며 그들의 눈앞에서 너희를 회복시켜 너희가 온 세상 모든 민족에게 명성과 칭찬을 얻게 하리라(3:18-20)” 하셨듯, 믿음과 구원이 모두다 하나님의 은혜라는 사실을 잊지 말고 신실하신 하나님의 언약에 소망을 두고 맡기고 죽기까지 겸손하게 순종해야 구원을 얻습니다. 여러분 모두 그처럼 올바른 믿음으로 구원을 얻어 부활하고 영생의 천국에 들어가기를 예수 그리스도의 이름으로 간절히 기도합니다. 아멘.

Therefore, no one should forget that faith and salvation are not their own, but are God’s grace and gifts only. Instead, they must place their hope in the covenant of God, who is faithful, entrust everything to God, become witnesses of the gospel, and obey until death to obtain salvation, as “The sorrows for the appointed feasts I will remove from you, they are a burden and a reproach to you. At that time, I will deal with all who oppressed you; I will rescue the lame and gather those who have been scattered. I will give them praise and honor in every land where they were put to shame. At that time, I will gather you; at that time, I will bring you home. I will give you honor and praise among all the peoples of the earth when I restore your fortunes before your very eyes, (3:18-20)” Therefore, dear brothers and sisters, do not be deceived by the words that say those who are chosen to believe have already obtained salvation and fall into the idea of the chosen people. Do not forget that salvation is completed only after passing the final test of physical death. Instead, I pray and earnestly bless you in the name of Christ Jesus, that you may attain that humbly entrusts, relies on, and obeys until death. Amen.
