Scripture Reading: Romans 11~12

“하나님께서 그의 백성을 버리셨느냐 내가 아브라함의 후손 베냐민 지파 이스라엘인이므로 결코 아니라. 하나님이 먼저 아셨던 그의 백성을 버리지 아니하셨느니라 엘리야에 관하여 기록한 성경을 너희가 알지 못하느냐 그가 이스라엘에 대하여 하나님께 고발하기를, 주여 그들이 주의 선지자들을 죽이고 주의 제단들을 헐었으며 홀로 남은 내 목숨도 찾나이다 하는, 그에게 내가 나를 위하여 바알에게 무릎을 꿇지 않은 사람 칠천명을 남겨 두었다 대답하시지 않았느냐, 지금도 그와 같이 은혜로 선택을 받은 자가 있음이라(11:1-5)” 하였듯, 하나님은 아무도 버리지 않고, 올바른 믿음으로 인도하며 복음의 증인으로 사용하십니다.

For God does not abandon anyone, but guides them to the right faith, uses them as witnesses of the gospel, and rejoices in the time of salvation, as “Did God reject his people? By no means. I am an Israelite myself, a descendant of Abraham, from the tribe of Benjamin. God did not reject his people, whom he foreknew. Don’t you know what the Scripture says in the passage about Elijah—how he appealed to God against Israel: Lord, they have killed your prophets and torn down your altars; I am the only one left, and they are trying to kill me? And what was God’s answer to him? I have reserved for myself seven thousand who have not bowed the knee to Baal. So too, at the present time there is a remnant chosen by grace (11:1-5)”

그러나 “만일 은혜로 되는 것이면 행위로 되지 아니하나니 그렇지 않으면 은혜가 되지 못함이니라(11:6)” 하였듯, 사람들은 하나님의 은혜만 바라게 되는 것은, 아담의 범죄로 말미암아 “이스라엘이 간절히 구하는 그것을 얻지 못하고 오직 선택받은 자들이 얻었고 나머지는 완악하여졌으니 어찌하여 그렇게 되었느냐, 하나님이 오늘날까지도 그들에게 눈이 있어도 보지 못하고 귀가 있어도 듣지 못하는 혼미한 영을 주셨다(11:7-8)” 하였듯, 하나님의 형상으로 주신 신령한 지혜를 빼앗겼고, 말씀과 성령으로 가르치는 하나님의 은혜와 사랑을 받아도 복음의 진리를 깨닫지 못하는 저주를 받았기 때문입니다.

But, people only hope for God’s grace, as “If by grace, then it is no longer by works; if it were, grace would no longer be grace (11:6)” Because of all people have been deprived of the divine wisdom given in the image of God through Adam’s sin, and have been cursed to not understand the truth of the gospel even when they receive the grace to be taught through the Word and the Holy Spirit, as “What Israel sought so earnestly it did not obtain, but the elect did. The others were hardened, as it is written: God gave them a spirit of stupor, eyes so that they could not see and ears so that they could not hear, to this very day (11:7-8)”

그래서 “그들이 회복하지 못하게 넘어졌느냐 결코 아니라 내가 말하는데 그들이 넘어짐으로 구원이 이방인에게 이르러 이스라엘이 부러워하게 함이라. 그들의 넘어짐이 세상을 풍요롭게 하고 그들의 실패로 이방인이 부유하게 되었는데 그들의 충만함은 얼마나 더 풍요로움을 가져오겠느냐, 내가 이방인들에게 말하노라 내가 이방인의 사도인 것을 소중히 여기나니, 어떻게든지 나의 동족들의 시기심을 충동하여 그들 가운데 얼마라도 구원하려 소망함이라(11:11-14)” 하였듯, 하나님께서 모든 사람을 고난으로 연단하시며 구원의 믿음으로 인도하십니다.

So, God trains everyone through suffering and leads them to the faith of salvation, as “Again, I ask: Did they stumble so as to fall beyond recovery? Not at all. Rather, because of their transgression, salvation has come to the Gentiles to make Israel envious. But it their transgression means riches for the world, and their loss means riches for the Gentiles, how much greater riches will their fullness bring. I am talking to you Gentiles. Inasmuch as I am the apostle to the Gentiles, I make much of my ministry, in the hope that I may somehow arouse my own people to envy and save some of them (11:11-14)”

그러나, “너희가 접붙임을 받아 참감람나무의 진액을 나누어 받았으나, 네가 뿌리를 보전하지 않고 뿌리가 너를 보전하므로 꺾인 가지들에게 자랑하지 말라(11:17-18)” 하였듯, 겸손하게 하나님께 맡기고 순종해야 가르치고 인도하며 양육하시는 은혜를 얻고, “나를 접붙이시려고 가지들이 꺾였다 너희가 말하리라. 옳다 그들은 믿지 않아 꺾였고 너희는 믿으므로 섰으나 우쭐하지 말고 두려워하라. 하나님이 원가지들을 아끼지 아니하셨으니 너도 아끼지 아니하시리라. 하나님은 인자하시나 준엄하심을 잊지 말라 하나님은 넘어지는 자들에게는 엄하시고 그의 자비 안에 머무는 자에게는 인자하심이라 그렇지 아니하면 너희도 찍힘을 당하리라(11:19-22)” 하였듯, 순종하지 않고 거역하면 악한 마음에 버려 두십니다.

But, whoever entrusts himself to God and obeys him be receives the grace to teach, guide, and nurture him, as “You, though a wild olive shoot, have been grafted in among the others and now share in the nourishing sap from the olive root, do not boast over those branches. If you do, consider this: You do not support the root, but the root supports you (11:17-18)” If anyone he disobeys and rebels, he is left to his evil heart, as “You will say then, ‘Branches were broken off so that I could be grafted in. Granted. But they were broken off because of unbelief, and you stand by faith. Do not be arrogant, but be afraid. For if God did not spare the natural branches, he will not spare you either. Consider therefore the kindness and sternness of God: sternness to those who fell, but kindness to you, provided that you continue in his kindness. Otherwise, you also will be cut off (11:19-22)”

그러나 하나님은 사랑이시므로, “그들이 만일 불신에서 돌이키면 다시 접붙임을 받으리니 그들을 접붙이실 능력이 하나님께 있음이라. 돌감람나무였던 너희를 잘라내어 좋은 감람나무에 접붙이신 하나님이 유대인들은 얼마나 쉽게 원감람나무에 접붙이시겠느냐, 형제들아 이방인들이 그리스도께 충만하게 들어오기까지 이스라엘들을 완악하게 하신 하나님의 신비하신 뜻을 너희가 알고 교만하게 자랑하지 않기를 바라노라(11:23-25)” 하였듯, 회개하면 용서하시고 올바른 믿음으로 구원을 얻을 기회를 다시 주십니다.

But, God is love, so if anyone who repent, He forgives all sins and gives another chance to be saved through right faith, as “If they do not persist in unbelief, they will be grafted in, for God is able to graft them in again. After all, if you were cut out of an olive tree that is wild by nature, and contrary to nature were grafted into a cultivated olive tree, how much more readily will these, the natural branches, be grafted into their own olive tree. I do not want you to be ignorant of this mystery, brothers, so that you may not be conceited: Israel has experienced a hardening in part until the full number of the Gentiles has come in (11:23-25)”

그래서 “온 이스라엘이 구원을 받으리라 기록되기를 시온에서 나오는 구원자가 경건하지 않은 이스라엘을 돌이키시고, 그들의 죄를 제거하며 내 언약을 그들에게 이루리라 하였음이라. 너희를 위하여 그들이 복음의 원수가 되었으나 선택받은 조상들로 말미암아 사랑을 받느니라. 하나님의 은사와 부르심은 돌이킬 수 없음이라. 하나님께 순종하지 않던 너희가 이스라엘의 불순종으로 이제는 긍휼을 입은 것처럼, 너희에게 베푸시는 긍휼로 말미암아 순종하지 않던 그들도 이제 긍휼을 얻게 하려 하심이라(11:26-31)” 선포하셨습니다.

That is why, God proclaimed it through the Scripture of today, as “All Israel will be saved, as it is written: The deliverer will come from Zion; he will turn Godlessness away from Jacob. And this is my covenant with them when I take away their sins. As far as the gospel is concerned, they are enemies on your account; but as far as election is concerned, they are loved on account of the patriarchs, for God’s gifts and his call are irrevocable. Just as you who were at one time disobedient to God have now received mercy as a result of their disobedience, so they too have now become disobedient in order that they too may now receive mercy as a result of God’s mercy to you (11:26-31)”

왜냐하면, 창조 이전에 예정하신 그리스도의 대속과 구원의 진리를 따라 “하나님이 모든 사람을 불순종에 가두신 것은 모든 사람에게 긍휼을 베풀려 하심이라. 하나님은 지혜와 지식이 풍부하고 깊으며 그의 길이나 판단은 헤아릴 수 없느니라(11:32-33)” 하였듯, 아담에게 자유의지를 주셨고 사탄의 유혹에 빠졌을 때 하나님의 형상으로 주신 신령한 능력을 거두셨으며, “깨닫는 마음과 보는 눈과 듣는 귀를(신29:4)” 주시지 않았으나, “너희 몸을 하나님이 기뻐하시는 거룩한 산 제물로 드리라 이는 너희가 드릴 영적 예배니라. 너희는 이 세상의 풍조에 동화되지 말고 오직 마음을 새롭게 하여 변화를 받아 하나님의 선하시고 기뻐하시고 온전하신 뜻이 무엇인지 분별하도록 하라(12:1-2)” 하였듯, 하나님의 진실한 뜻을 올바로 알고 따라 지키며 순종해야 할 의무와 책임이 사람의 자유의지에 있습니다.

Because, God gave Adam free-will according to the truth of Christ’s redemption and salvation that was planned before creation, as “For God has bound all men over to disobedience so that he may have mercy on them all. Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God. How unsearchable his judgements, and his paths beyond tracing out (11:32-33)” When he was deceived by Satan’s temptation and fall into sin, God took away the divine power that had been given to him in the image of God, as “has not given a mind that understands or eye that see or ears that hear (Deuteronomy29:4)” But, the duty and responsibility to correctly know, follow, and obey God’s true will lies within the free will of all people, as “To offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is his good, pleasing and perfect will (12:1-2)”

그러므로 “마땅히 생각할 그 이상의 생각을 하지 말고 오직 하나님께서 각 사람에게 나누어 주신 믿음의 분량대로 지혜롭게 생각하라. 우리가 한 몸에 많은 지체를 가졌으나 그 지체들이 같은 기능을 하지 아니하니, 그와 같이 우리 많은 사람이 그리스도 안에서 한 몸과 지체가 되었느니라(12:3-5)” 하였듯, 말씀과 성령으로 가르치는 하나님의 진실한 뜻에 따라 그리스도 안에서 지체를 이룰 의무가 있고, “우리에게 주신 은혜와 받은 은사가 각각 다르니 예언이면 믿음의 분수대로, 섬기는 자는 섬기는 일로, 가르치는 자는 가르치는 일로, 위로하는 자면 위로하는 일로, 구제하는 자는 성실함으로, 다스리는 자는 부지런함으로, 긍휼을 베푸는 자는 즐거움으로 하라. 사랑은 진실해야 하므로 악을 미워하고 선에 집착하라(12:6-9)” 하였듯, 진리와 사랑으로 협력하는 선을 이뤄야 합니다.

Therefore, we have a duty to be members of Christ according to the true will of God taught through Hid Word and the Holy Spirit, as “Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgement, in accordance with the measure of faith God has given you. Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we who are many form, one body, and each member belongs to all the others (12:3-5)” Because, right faith is about working together with truth and love to achieve good, as “We have different gifts, according to the grace given us. If a man’s gift is prophesying, let him use it in proportion to his faith. If it is encouraging, let him encourage; if it is contributing to the needs of others, let him give generously; if it is leadership, let him govern diligently; if it is showing mercy, let him do it cheerfully. Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good (12:6-9)”

그러므로 “소망 중에 즐거워하며 환난 중에 참으며 충실하게 기도하라. 성도들에게 나누어 주며 환대를 실천하라. 너희를 핍박하는 자들을 축복하고 저주하지 말라. 기뻐하는 자들과 함께 즐거워하고 애통하는 자들과 함께 울라. 서로 뜻을 같이하고 교만하지 말고 낮은 자들을 가까이 하며 자만하지 말라(12:12-16)” 하였듯, 그리스도의 구원에 소망을 두고 간절히 기도하여 맡기고 환난을 참아내며 핍박하는 자들을 위하여 축복하며 모든 사람을 사랑으로 섬겨야 합니다.

Therefore, we must place our hope in Christ’s salvation, entrust it to God in earnest prayer, endure all kinds of hardships, bless those who persecute us, and serve all people with love, as “Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. Share with God’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality. Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn. Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited (12:12-16)”

그리고 “원수 갚는 것이 내게 있으니 내가 갚으리라 주께서 말씀하셨다 기록되었으니 사랑하는 형제들아 너희가 친히 원수를 갚지 말고 하나님의 진노에 맡기라. 오히려 네 원수가 굶주리면 먹이고 목마르면 마시게 하라 그렇게 하면 네가 그의 머리에 숯불을 쌓게 되리라. 악에게 지지 말고 선으로 악을 이기라(12:17-21)” 하였듯, 원수까지 사랑으로 섬기는 삶으로 모든 사람과 화목하며 그리스도의 복음을 전하고 증거해야 임마누엘 하나님의 은혜로 구원을 얻습니다. 사랑하는 형제자매 여러분, 모두 하나님의 뜻에 자신을 맡기고 성령의 진리와 사랑으로 모든 사람을 섬기는 복음의 증인이 되고 구원 얻기를 예수 그리스도의 이름으로 간절히 축복하며 기도합니다. 아멘.

And we must serve even our enemies with love, be at peace with all people, and preach and testify the gospel of Christ to obtain salvation through the grace of God of Immanuel, as “Do not take revenge, my friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: It is mine to avenge; I will repay, says the Lord. On the contrary: If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink. In doing this, you will heap, burning coals on his head. Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good (12:19-21)” Dear brothers and sisters, I earnestly pray and bless you all in the name of Jesus Christ, that you may entrust yourselves to God’s will and become witnesses of the people who serve all people with the truth and love of the Holy Spirit, and that you may attain salvation. Amen.
