가나안 땅은 아름다운 땅이지만 그만큼 죄의 유혹이 강한 곳이기도 합니다. 물론 가나안 땅에 들어왔다고 저절로 거룩한 백성이 되는 것은 아닙니다. 가나안에서는 진멸 할 것은 진멸 하고 하나님의 것은 하나님께 돌려야 합니다. 이는 가나안 전쟁이 약탈 전쟁이 되지 못 하게 하려는 뜻이 있습니다. 탐욕을 충족시키는 전쟁이 아니라 하나님의 거룩한 심판을 수행하는 대의명분이 있을 때만 허용되는 것이 진멸 전쟁입니다.

그래서 아간의 구원 문제 보다 더 중요한 것은 진멸 하지 않으면 진멸 된다는 교훈과 함께 죽음으로써 자신을 하나님께 바치지 않았을까? 성도는 명품이 아니라 명분을 좇는 존재 들입니다. 순종에 목숨을 걸어야 하는 존재 들이지요. 하나님의 선물에 대한 기대감이 적으면 세상을 기웃거리게 됩디다. 하나님의 크기에 대한 이해가 적으면, 세상의 것을 크게 보게 되고 죄는 여기서 출발하기 시작합니다. 단호한 단절과 제거 없이 거룩한 통치는 없다고. 언제나 하나님은 다 아십니다. 거룩한 신앙 공동체는 드러난 죄를 어떻게 처리해야 하는가?

인류의 헤렘을 위해 예수님을 이 땅에 보내신 하나님의 성품을 봅니다. 아간의 죄를 공공에 들여 내고 심판을 통해 죄를 그치게 하신 하나님은 옳으십니다. 하나님 앞에 숨길 수 있는 것은 하늘 아래 없는데도 아무도 모를 거라는 생각으로 죄를 가볍게 여긴 나의 아간을 불쌍히 여기고 헤렘 시켜주옵소서. 그리하여 모든 죄를 제거하고 다시는 실패하지 않게 하옵소서. 이제는 목표가 있는 삶을 살게 하시고 사나 죽으나 주님과 연합하는 가운데 비긴 어게인 하게 도와주옵소서.
