The ceremony included a special lecture on "The reality and forecast of peace in Northeast Asia" by former unification minister, Jung Se-hyun. Some 200 Catholics including several members of parliament and the deputy mayor of Uijeongbu participated in the event. "It is our duty to work for the evangelization of North Korea as our diocese is located close to the border. The institution will be a base for cultivating peace in Northeast Asia and even the world," said Bishop Lee. Father Peter Kang Ju-seok, the institute's director, said the mission of the church is spreading the peace of Christ throughout the world. The institution was established to study peace building methods for Northeast Asia and to actualize Catholic ideas of peace. Apart from Catholics, the institution will also invite Buddhist and Protestant researchers to cover areas such as theology, philosophy, politics, economics, and literature. Related Reports |
