올해 4월말 이 세상을 떠나가신 아버지는 정치하려는 저에게 가장 많이 한 말씀 중의 하나는 ‘정치는 더럽다’였습니다.

올해 6월3일 지방선거 패배에 대한 책임을 지지 않는 무책임한 현 야당 장동혁 대표와 양영자 등의 지도부를 보면, 아버지의 말씀이 다시 한번 떠오릅니다.

책임지지 않는 정치를 옹호하는 자는 전직 대통령이라 하더라도 예외가 될 수 없다고 생각합니다.

이런 측면에서 어제 박근혜 전 대통령은 실수했다고 보며, 이제 더 이상 정치 이야기가 그녀의 입에서 나오지 않게 되기를 바랍니다.

책임지지 않는 장동혁 지도부가 26년 9월에도 백겹살을 비유되는 무책임의 자리에 계속 있을 경우 우리는 그 주위에 누가 그 무책임을 같이 공조하는지 잘 살펴서, 기억해야 할 것입니다.

저는 대한민국 정치가 책임지는 시스템으로 가야한다고 동의하시는 분들은 모두 이 슬로건 아래 같이 모일 수 있다는 입장입니다.

정치라는 게 조직이 필요하고 조직은 현실적으로 돈이 최소한으로 뒷받침되어야 굴러간다는 측면에서, 지금 당장은 책임지지 않는 자와 그를 동조하는 무책임의 공모자들을 우리는 지켜보고 있겠지만 이 관람 기록을 바탕으로 새로운 그림을 물 밑에서 그려야 할 것입니다.

궁극적으로 이제 향후 정국 개편은 이 무책임 정치의 반대편에서 관람했던 관람자들이 주도하고 책임지는 정치의 실현을 위해 나아갈 수 밖에 없습니다.

제가 아들이 없어서 아버지처럼 자주는 물론이거니와 한번이라도 정치 이야기할 아버지처럼 하지는 못하겠지만, 저는 ‘정치는 책임지는 영역이다’는 말을 저의 후세대에게 할 수 있도록 하겠습니다.

Donghee Zheng’s Vision for K-Big Tent (= Big Tent Korea): The Opposition Edition

My father, who passed away in late April of this year, often told me as I aspired to enter politics, "Politics is dirty."

Looking at the irresponsible leadership of the current opposition party—including Chairman Jang Dong-hyeok and Yang Young-ja, who take zero accountability for the defeat in the June 3 local elections this year—my father's words come to mind once more.

I firmly believe that anyone who defends politics devoid of responsibility should be no exception, even if they are a former president. In this regard, former President Park Geun-hye made a serious mistake yesterday, and I sincerely hope that political rhetoric will no longer come from her.

If the unaccountable leadership under Jang Dong-hyeok continues to cling to their positions of irresponsibility—layered endlessly like fat on pork belly—into September 2026, we must carefully observe and remember every single individual who colludes in that irresponsibility.

My stance is clear: anyone who agrees that South Korean politics must transition into an accountable system can unite under this banner.

Politics inevitably requires an organization, and an organization realistically demands at least a minimum financial foundation to function. While we may currently remain mere spectators of those evading responsibility and their accomplices, we must use these observed records to draft a new blueprint beneath the surface.

Ultimately, the future political realignment will inevitably be led by the very observers standing on the other side of this unaccountable politics, marching forward to realize a political culture built on true responsibility.

Although I do not have a son to frequently discuss politics with as my father did with me, I will make sure to pass down this defining principle to the next generation: "Politics is a realm of accountability."
