20. 코로나 시대, 유튜브 법회, COVID-19 and YouTube Dharma Assemblies

[眞如華]

 2020년 9월 10일부터 2시, 7시 하루 두 차례 라이브 법문을 했다. 한차례는『화엄경』을 가볍게 읽어 주는 시간을 가지고, 다른 한차례는 『유마경』을 법문하고 『임제록』을 법문하였다. 이 경전들을 다 강설한 뒤에는 『화엄경』만을 전문으로 읽기 시작하였다. 처음에는 번역된 『화엄경』경전을 읽는 것을 위주로 진행하다가 점점 강설과 법문의 비중이 커졌다.

2020년 9월 10일부터 시작한 『화엄경』읽기가 마침내 「입법계품」으로 들어갔을 때, 2023년 2월 23일 무비스님이 고관절을 다쳤다.

유튜브 <화엄법회>가 중단되었다.

코로나와 무비스님의 대수술로 염화실과 문수경전연구회에 대혼란이 일었다. 오프라인 법회는 무비스님의 법제자이신 용학스님이 맡았다.

무비스님은 5월 24일까지 병원에서 재활 훈련을 하였다. 화엄전으로 돌아와 5월 25일부터 다시 유튜브 <화엄법회>를 시작했다. 모두가 무비스님을 오뚝이라고 했다.

2023년 10월 1일 「입법계품」부터 다시 이어나간 『화엄경』읽기가 마침내 제1독 완독을 마쳤다.

신도들이 법사스님과 함께 81권 『화엄경』을 처음부터 끝까지 완독한 것은 한국 불교사에서 처음 있는 일이었다.

무비스님은 다음날인 10월 2일부터 쉬지 않고『화엄경』 두 번째 읽기를 시작하였다. 법회시간도 하루 한 번, 매일 아침 8시로 고정하였다.

 Starting from September 10, 2020, Mubi Seunim gave live Dharma talks twice a day, at 2PM and 7 PM.

In one of the sessions, he took the time to lightly read through the Avatamsaka Sutra. In the other session, he gave Dharma talks on the Vimalakirti Sutra and the Record of Linji.

After he finished lectures all these scriptures, he began to read only the Avatamsaka Sutra as his main focus.

At first, he focused mainly on reading the translated Avatamsaka Sutra. But gradually, his lectures and Dharma talks became a much larger part of the sessions.

The reading of the Avatamsaka Sutra began on September 10, 2020. When it finally reached the chapter 'Entering the Dharma Realm,' Mubi Seunim injured his hip on February 23, 2023.

The YouTube 'Hwaeom Assembly' had to stop.

Due to COVID-19 and Mubi Seunim’s major surgery, there was great chaos in Yeomhwashil and the Munsu Scripture Research Society.

Mubi Seunim’s Dharma disciple, Yonghak Seunim, led the offline Dharma assemblies.

Mubi Seunim did rehabilitation training in the hospital until May 24.

He returned to Hwaeomjeon and started the YouTube 'Hwaeom Assembly' again from May 25.

Everyone called Mubi Seunim an 'Ottugi,' a toy that always stands back up.

He resumed the reading of the Avatamsaka Sutra from the chapter 'Entering the Dharma Realm' on October 1, 2023, and finally completed the first full reading.

It was the first time in the history of Korean Buddhism that the followers finished reading all 81 volumes of the Avatamsaka Sutra from beginning to end together with the Dharma Master.

Without taking a rest, Mubi Seunim started the second reading of the Avatamsaka Sutra the very next day, October 2.

He also fixed the schedule of the Dharma assembly to once a day, at 8 AM every morning.
