Life-size statue of Mother Teresa for Kolkata's Bishop's House Bronze artwork donated by Macedonia's Honorary Consul for the Indian cityAugust 22, 2016In the lead up to her canonization, a life-size bronze statue of Blessed Mother Teresa is to be installed at the Bishop's House in Kolkata. The statue will be placed beside another one of St. Pope John Paul II, said Archbishop Thomas D'Souza of Kolkata, reported IBNS. The statue would be installed at a special function Aug. 25, the eve of Blessed Mother Teresa's birthday. Created by Kolkata-based firm Church Art, the statue has been donated by Namit Bajoria, the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Macedonia in Kolkata. Blessed Mother Teresa was born in 1910 to Albanian parents in Skopje the capital of what is now the Republic of Macedonia. She came to India in 1929 as a novice with the Loreto nuns. She left the congregation in the late 1940s and started the Missionaries of Charity in 1950. Mother Teresa died at the congregation's motherhouse in Kolkata on Sept. 5, 1997, aged 87. Her canonization process began two years afterward. St. Pope John Paul II beatified her in 2003. She is due to be canonized by Pope Francis at a ceremony at the Vatican on Sept. 4, the eve of the 19th anniversary of her death. Related Reports |
